How-to: Make S.M.A.R.T. less laggy
Whether running a single script, or multiple at the same time, the user (you!) may experience lagg in their S.M.A.R.T. Clients. Some of the first questions that come to mind may be:
- My internet is fast; why is it lagging so much?
- I have the latest computer; why is everything so laggy?
- All my other applications are working fine; why not S.M.A.R.T.?
The answers? Even though you may have the fastest internet on the planet; this factor sometimes has absolutely nothing to do with why you experiencing lagg. It is not connection lagg, but rather frames per seccond (FPS) lagg.
The checklist:
So how can I tell if I'm getting FPS lagg?Thing to check:
- Is my connection to the Runescape server alright? Check the 'ping' of a world you are logged into. The smaller the 'ping number', the better your connection will be. You may have to manually select a world! To use, click the "Disable SMART" button on your S.M.A.R.T. client. Runescape usually automatically chooses a world with low ping for you!
- Is my internet usage capped? You may think that this is common knowledge, but most people forget to check this! Once you go over your data usage, your internet slows down immensely!
- How many other people are using the same internet connection at the same time as me? If mum's updating her pottery website, Dad's streaming sports videos, Your brother is playing COD online, your sister is on Skype and you are botting on Runescape, I would say you'll be experiencing lagg. Try botting at offpeak times - night time is best!
Solutions:
Once you've narrowed the problem down to FPS lagg (not connection issues), here are some things you can try:
- YoHoJo has an interesting method up here. I'm not sure if it works because I've never tried it! (Check the comments!) It involves 'downgrading' your Java to a previous version. I, personally would leave that option until last. It can get a little confusing if you don't know what you're doing.
- The most obvious thing to do is to close all necessary programs! These use up CPU Memory and ultimately slow things down. Even if your other programs are working smoothly, you should still close every single one of them; it helps a lot. If you feel like delving deeper into these depths to make your CPU as free as a bird, these are the steps I use (please note that if you do not know what you are doing, read read read read carefully and you won't get lost):
- Close all programs except Simba and S.M.A.R.T. as stated above.
Open 'Windows Task Manager' by simultaneously pressing [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DEL]. For Windows 7 (and Vista?) now click 'Start Task Manager' (duh :P)Press [CTRL] + [SHIFT] + [ESC] and 'Windows Task Manager' will appear.
- Now you will see this window appear:
- Select a process by clicking on it, then stop it by clicking 'End Process'
- From reading the name of the process you can usually deceipher what it is. If you don't know, don't touch it!
- From the picture above, You can see 'Divx….'. I know that I don't need that because it is an updater. (Yes I have a lot of crap on my computer :P)
- A process that I like to 'end', is 'explorer.exe'. This runs all of the explorer/folder windows along with the windows taskbar. As you can see, it uses a fair bit of memory (in comparrison to other things). Once you stop this, you can use [ALT] + [TAB] to navigate (that's what I do). Do not be afraid when everything disappears! To get it back again, click: File > New Task (Run…) > type 'explorer.exe' > OK. (I would only do this if you are confident)
- Lastly, you must (and I do not say this lightly) always restart Simba after botting. Meaning you must close Simba and re-open it. I'm not very familiar on these terms, but memory builds up and slows down the program.
Click the processes tab to find the list of things that are running in the background of your computer. Important Note: Some of these processes are vital, some aren't. Deciding which ones to stop can be confusing but I'll do my best to explain below.
Choosing which processes to end:
Other/Important/Questions:
What if you use the slider on the right-hand side of the S.M.A.R.T. client? Doesn't this make your FPS faster? This is actually a false assumption. It will not make your script work any better. It is (what I like to call) visual FPS; it changes the FPS of what we see only!(Outdated)
