[FIX] SMART FPS Lag Fix!

YoHoJo

2011-11-24 05:17:36

Well I (as well as many other people I've seen) have been complaining and plagued with what is called 'fps lag' on SMART.

You can check you fps by going to an rs client and typing
`displayfps
and then pressing enter and again ` to exit the debug screen thingy.

I was always have ~7 FPS on SMART no matter what the hell I was doing, the crowd around me, or the server. While on my browser I was always at 28+.

These people are able to run Runescape JUST FINE on their browsers and hardware was not as issue at all (it takes very little to run RS with full FPS).

Although this doesn't hurt running scripts too much I believe the lag does hurt the speed and accuracy of scripts, as well as just be an annoyance overall. After just dealing with it and accepting it as normal since SO MANY other people have and trying many random fixes I think I have now found the problem!

I believe overall, the newer(est) versions of java are the culprit.
Java 7 specifically is the problem, while Java 6 Update 32 works just fine! (Any version of Java 6)
Many people including myself believe installing the latest and newest java would solve everything, but this did not work.

TL;DR
Uninstall all Javas COMPLETELY. Install Java 6 Update 29 (32 bit) OR Java 6 Update 32 (Any version of Java 6) (Just NOT Java 7)!
Guide Stats Here

1) Completely remove and delete all Java from you computer. I THINK the regular ol windows uninstaller should work just fine, but I prefer to use Revo Uninstaller (free program found here http://www.revouninstaller.com/) which COMPLETELY removes every trace of the program. Choose advanced uninstall and delete every damn little thing it lets you (be careful, it may ask you to delete some programs you want when deleting java so READ before checking boxes).

2) Even after doing these things, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java and delete any and all Java folders found in there!

3) Install Java 6 Update 32, 32 bit version NOT 7 for me, they are found here http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/tech/12197 (Filehippo has ALL versions of Java, this specific link is to 6.30)
You should just have to download JRE, but I got JDK (which includes JRE with it).

(No need to restart computer)
Bada Bing Bada Boom! :spot:

SMART should now run Runescape with just as many FPS as in your browser!
Also, slide the FPS slider on the right of SMART all the way up to achieve maximum FPS! (For me the lowering the FPS barely even lowers CPU/RAM usage so I'd rather my bots run with the smoothest FPS they can rather than laggy).
Also, Also, setting CPU usage in Runescape settings to Maximum gives me 10 more FPS compared to Very Low (20 on Very Low, 30 on Maximum)

Let me know if this works for you
, and any additions/changes you think should be made to this post!

windows 8 works better with the java than windows 7 did on my (horrible) laptop I have 15fps standing still vs like 5.. and w8 has 28 processes running

I get around 12fps when moving which is pretty good for the laptop, on other machines I have no problem

other than that versions of java don't seem to change it, on my other machines my fps hits maximum no matter what

lol yea I definitely wouldn't use it for my main machine, so far all the drivers I've tested work fine with it though (windows 7 versions)

do you have a good machine that runs smart at low FPS? from what I saw when running it on my server smart eats up 8 cores without hesitation, to run itself at high fps

I shouldn't need a good machine to run Smart when I can run Rs itself fine maxed out.

It's okay to bump, it's a common problem and was unfixed for so long, glad it's figured out now and people can bot better!
I think even the free version of it lasts forever?
I don't remember ever cracking/using keygen but maybe I did and forgot.

Anyways… posting files like that is illegal at SRL, just use Google if you really want the full version of it!

Glad it's all better for you now woo hoo!

They've updated their website to where 6.30 is the "recommended" version. I know that even a week ago, it was still 6.29, so 6.30 is probably stable enough since it changed. I think this one will be fine. You should be able to find 6.29 in a quick google search though.

YoHoJo

Simba/Smart etc are 32 bit, you can download Java 7 for 64 bit if you wish, but for 32 bit make sure you download version 6.

YoHoJo what version do you recommend the most for running multiple bots or what version do you use i seen you posted in another thread please and thank you in advance !

From: YoHoJo
It actually does, now that I got my SMARTs not lagging but getting older version of java, adjusting the bar makes a difference, especially when running multiple it helps to keep them low! :D

YoHoJo

2012-01-13 19:05:24

6.anything is fine, just not version 7.
In your runescape settings set CPU Ussage to minimum, and slider the fps slider on the right of smart as low as you can for thr script to still run properly.

CPU is the most important factor in being able to run more smarts.

illuminatiswag

2012-01-13 19:20:12

Im running 2 right now each one using about 15% Cpu what version of 6 would you mostly recommend the most Java 6 Update 29 ? and i dont mind how much cpu it uses im only one that uses the computer and when i work i just start the 2 bots and thats it so would be it better to slide all the way to the top ? computer is pretty decent i5 with 6gb ram

YoHoJo

2012-01-13 19:26:47

Any version of 6 is fine as far as I know it's just 7 that's not good.

All the way up would be overkill and if just 2 is fine for you and CPU donesnt matter then Just don't even mess with the slider and you'll be fine.

illuminatiswag

2012-01-13 19:30:41

Idk but i think i love you solid 40-50 FPS now

running 2 bots right now one stays between 40 and 50 FPS and other one stays between 45-50 FPS and about 50% CPU atm i recommend this guide to anyone and everyone

YoHoJo

2012-01-15 04:35:33

If you move the slider on the right side of smart down, it lowers the FPS, and therefor lowers the CPU ussing, allowing you to run a lot more at once!

Glad I could help!

HT BaaFly

2012-02-26 04:21:12

Tried your method but saddly didn't work! :(
After a few tests, I came to the conclusion that the safe mode was the root of the problem. You can go into safe mode by holding the 's' button while te RS screen is loading. I ran two clients at the same time; one on safe mode, the other on the 'normal' software mode. I logged into both clients using the same account (not at the same time, obviously) and checked the FPS. For the normal client, it remained steady at 23 - 25 but for the safe mode version, it flacuated between 7 and 16 max depending on if the world was crowded or not.
I have uninstalled Java several times and tried different versions which were below 7 only to be given failure. Also, I completely formated my computer which entirely erased my OS but that didn't leave any noticable improvement.
If anyone can help me figure out what's wrong, I'll be for ever grateful. Also, is it possible to run SMART on the software mode instead of the usual safe mode?

Edit 1: I've just tried OpenGL and DirectX modes and my FPS have just shoot up to 30 and 34!

you gotta hit the little ` key in the top left of your keyboard, then the debug screen should pop up. then type in 'displayfps' (without the 's). then hit the ` key again to get rid of the debug window. And repeat the process to turn the FPS off.

Doing a quick search would tell you how to fix this. If memory serves, you just need to click on tools -> Update and that should fix it. But It has been a while, so maybe try the search at the top of the forum.

So, after much sadness, I will briefly reawaken this thread. I am getting a similar Access violation error- but I have seemingly tried everything.

SRL, SPS, MSI and Simba are fully updated. I've made sure Simba is running with admin privileges.

I have completely purged Java a few times- It gives me the same error with 6.29, 6.30, and 7.6.

Oddly enough, after it logs in and freezes, it opens another SMART window but the second time can't log in. When I end the program, it doesn't tell me which line the violation is- seems odd. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to be a lil gravediggy….. So.. You don't think it would help at all trying to use an older java?
cos i have had insane lagg lately.. I guess i updated to smart 8.. perhaps i should downgrade..

EDIT: Just in case anyone reads this..
I resolved my issue by opening the bottom of my laptop(its plugged into a monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse) and allowing it to get more air..
OVERHEATING caused me terrible lagg :(

Its .. bearable now.

What you are seeing in fps change is most likely irrelevant/non-existant in Smart v8.2/v8.3+. The reason is because Smart is now compatible with Java7 and actually attempting to use it or even compile it with Java 6 isn't possible anymore without changes to its canvas and core.

Are you lagging that badly?

Any ideas what could fix that at this time? I tried this guide but it doesn't help :/ I got everything updated back again and there's still lag.
