Preview of the MSI Form V2

Coh3n

I'm going to be working on the new form a lot more since MSI seems to be at a fairly stable state right now, so I'd like to get this done (or at least released for testing). Keep in mind that it's still far from finished, I just want to get some opinions on the layout. Also, don't worry about the "boring" theme, that will change, but if you have some suggestions, feel free to post them. :)

The source can be found here, and the development thread can be found here.

Cheers,
The MSI Team

It will switch to the script settings panel, which currently has no components on it. :p

assuming the
1
2
3
4
5
6
etc. will be the players names then i dont think it is too bad, but i do like the step-by-step style of the current one

also i see Ivy cutter in the list, so thats my script gone -_-'

like the look of it , but i agree that the current step by step feel of the current one is good.

also you planning on adding a tab to select what extras are running and to access them, account viewer.

The Ivy Cutter isn't actually finished yet. NCDS is working on that I think.

I removed the step by step thing, because it's not really necessary. If I did the same with the new form, there would only be a couple steps. Plus I think it's better being able to see all the player's settings at the same time.

Looking good, however you should have showed us the theme first :)

We need to have an option for which type of solvers to use (color/reflection) in advanced settings, IMO anyways. I had a bunch of things I wanted to add to that, but I can't remember at the moment.

I'll think of them..

Yeah that can easily be added to the script settings panel mentioned earlier on the page. We should compile a list of additions. I'll probably write up that panel soon.

Sounds good to me.

These should be added too IMO:

ANTI_BAN_CHANCE = 10; // The chance (in %) of performing antiban
MIN_FLAG_DISTANCE = 15; // The amount of pixels from the flag to player
RANDOM_TIME_PERCENT = 0.30; // The percent of BreakLoads/TotalLoads/BreakTime/TotalTime to use for randomness.
Simple additions, but would be nice to have readily customizable for users.

Coh3n

2011-08-05 22:20:06

Oo man, I'm not even sure if MIN_FLAG_DISTANCE is used. It should be, though. Also, the RANDOM_TIME_PERCENT should just be an integer as a percentage rather than a decimal. That's all trivial though.

Yeah, I'm not sure the exact reason I did it like that atm. Most likely just to be consistent with everything else as the whole system is extended values.

I know MSI provides alot of scripts what about having a way to type what your looking for?

so at the top you can type varrock east, and it will bring you what you can search?

or even just having drop down menus for each category so it doesn't seem so overwhelming when looking for a script?

I support this. Search for script and/or have categories eg. cooking, wc, …

My original plan was to use a TTreeView, just like Simba's function list; however, Simba doesn't export TTreeView to PS. I was going to do this, but Lape is coming soon so it doesn't really seem worth the time yet. However, Lape won't support forms right away so I'm open to suggestions for this.

I agree though, I really do not like the script list how it is.

You could do some finagling with onclicks for the items where it would effectively make the listbox a ttreeview. In keeping with the the way you have it formatted, have the skill with 0 spaces in front of it, the town with 2 spaces in front of it, and the actual script with 4. Then if the item is clicked and has x spaces in front of the words, displace all the items after the item clicked and insert all the items in the array that are children of the one you clicked. If you get my meaning.

I am also pro-old form just because it still seems like an aweful lot of form/time-on-form going to waste, but other than that, they both seem to offer similar functionality, so it doesnt really matter.

I agree that it's a lot of time wasted, kind of. Yeah, it won't be used anymore, but I'm sure all the people (including me) did benefit from working on it. The main reason I started working on a new one was because the current one is based around TImages, which doesn't give us any room to expand when we need to. Plus I think the new one is more user-friendly (could just be me though). That's the aim anyway.

Would be cool to see this stuff in some sort of advanced tab. That way users who don't know what to do with it, won't have to mess with it, plus might give the form a cleaner look. (less cluttered)

I do really like how this looks though.

I can set it up the exact same way I have the "Script Settings" and "Advanced Player Settings" (opens a new window), but for the sake of changing things up, I could make it have two tabs as well.

Will update first post with more pictures once I get more done. Does anyone have any ideas for colour schemes?

I'm not sure of an actual background color but I think the other phoenix gif image that was submitted for the MSI cup would look cool under the 'Script Settings' button.

It is just that one of Coh3n's previous posts only mentioned color themes for the form as is. Are there plans to have it skinned in a similar manner to the current form? If so, I would be willing to offer help in creating the new theme.

There's not going to be images as buttons like the current form. The only things we can really customize (as far as I know) are the colours of the components, and only text and the background look good as different colours.

Wizzup?

Forms in general are pretty cross platform. We made NO changes to the Simba form on Windows - it just worked on Linux. So once the Simba interpreter can succesfully pass the parameters to lazarus/FPC, Simba on Linux and other platforms will have the same form power.

I wouldn't bother if you don't want to skin the whole form. just keep it how it is with maybe a banner/image that blends well into the form. And basically the only way i see one looking good is if you have an image behind the text in the middle that in the screenshot says "player settings" (like maybe a swirly fire thing wing-esque thing). If not, then i wouldn't bother changing anything.

Yeah, possibly. I'm not sure how it would look. Someone can whip up some theme's in photoshop if they wish, but I won't be doing anything theme related until it's done. I want it to function before I make it look good. ;)

You can come up with a theme anytime. ;) I meant that me, personally, won't be working on a theme until the functionality is done. Feel free to mess with form components/colours/graphics all you want and present themes you come up with.

Keep in mind, though, that we'll be using standard form components (no images for buttons, etc.) so that the form can be easily expanded and so we don't have to rely on the sizes of images.

E: If you want, you can come up with a "opening" image that will be displayed as soon as the form is opened. I'm thinking it should be a solid background colour (so the form's background can be set to that colour), then a logo of some sort displaying in the middle. Something that shows all of MSI's supported skills somehow? Not something too complicated because it would have to be updated when more skills are added. Maybe the skill logos we have in the [ublic scripts section? Just ideas. :)

Here's something if you're looking for size.

Coh3n

Dan Cardin

2011-09-25 01:28:08

YES. Treeview is the biggest thing i thought you were missing with the sheer number of scripts you have. Also, I think the problem with using images is moreso the lack of class support than anything else. As long as the images are designed correctly, or if they are done more like webpage layouts (who have to deal with different sizes all the time and plan accordingly) then the images look fine and you can add any text in the code itself. Also it ends up being more work because you have to set up a unified way of dealing with mouseovers and stuff.

tldr; So basically im saying its, not that big of a deal to do with the the correct planning and way of coding from the outset. but I agree that its not worth the effort for this particular piece of software.

Coh3n

euphemism, that's actually really neat. I like it a lot. I think the skill logos should be more defined, though. Right now they blend in, and I'd like them to really stand out. Also maybe have the MSI text a different colour, and include the word "Phoenix" (kind of like the banner in this thread). Just some ideas.
