Hey people, I haven't been scripting in a while but suddenly I've got plenty of free time :D What projects aren't going quick enough, or what do you secretly wish was in MSI? Is there any maintenance to do?

See you guys soon

Just look through the 'core' section of MSI's SVN forums. There are plenty of unfinished things to be done.

Good to see you back anyways. :)

You could also take a look through for bug that are reported. There are a lot that come up and it's hard for us to stay on top of them. :p

Won't happen. This will be Members +. That's the plan as of right now anyways.

Becks hit Simba really hard and learn some code I've been waiting to see you apply for awhile. Remember if you need help the SSSS does have class and people in our SRL channel to help you with any questions. Cique you could always help write/update some tutorials. That's always a great help.

@NCDS I know but it can't hurt to ask. ;)

@Brak I will be looking into SSSS. Thank you.

Cigue,

I think the most useful things you can do are to look into some bugs (although that may be difficult since I'm assuming you don't know the MSI include very well, but you have to start somewhere ;)). Here's a list of some other things if you're interested:
  • If you know anything about forms, there's some minor things here.
  • Suggestions and bugs that have been reported here and http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58423. First one is more likely to catch something of interest.
  • Finally, there's a list of things here. If there's a name beside something on the list, don't worry. That's just the person that came up with the idea. Most of them haven't been started yet.
Also, please don't get discouraged about how big MSI is or how complicated some of the code may be. We are working hard to get the documentation done and simplify everything. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. You can make a new thread, post here, or even PM me if you wish. :)

Good luck!

I'll probably write documentation for Simba and SRL. I've tried writing tutorials before, and it felt too much like spoon-feeding.

I personally have never used most tutorials, on account of all of them saying the same things, and most of these things being easier to figure out by yourself. The only exceptions were the tutorials to specific functions and routines, and these feel a lot like doc than like anything else.

No offense to the tutorial writers/users :) The end result for SRL is pretty neat, it doesn't really matter who got where how.

Also, what is the SSSS?

EDIT : Last question. The way MSI is built, can scripts written outside of it be added to it?

Like entire scripts? That don't use MSI at all? I never really thought about it, but I suppose it can (with a couple modifications of course).

"use MSI"? Like the include?

Pretty much everything in MSI uses/relies something else in MSI, so it may be difficult to use MSI in an outside script. Why not just make a script record for MSI then the script will be part of MSI?

In case your confused, MSI is really just a big AIO script.

Yes.

I suppose if you wanted you could write your own script using MSI methods if you wish. There's no harm in that; however, if you did that, you may as well have it added to MSI itself. ;)

I'd need someone to brief me on MSI first. Via MSN sounds like the best way :)

I don't feel like tackling a full-on script yet, but I wouldn't mind making blocks of script (walking, etc.) for someone else. Maybe that will change in the near future.

Most of those coding tutorials are terribly outdated, so I wouldn't really advise some of them. The best one would be the How-to Guide to MSI Scripting, and even that isn't very descriptive.

If we can get the documentation done it would solve all our problems..
