What is SRL?
[INDENT]SRL is a library of routines designed to aid the user playing the MMORPG runescape. It covers low and high-level functionality enabling the user to perform repetitive tasks, both simple and complicated. The true power of SRL is unfolded when a player encounters ingame Random-Event, designed to stop our automatic Avatar. SRL riddles and solves most of these events, allowing your Avatar to keep on playing.
SRL is also a community focused on developing the scripting and programming talent within each person by providing tutorials, help, aims and entertainment to all those who wish. While the community is mostly scripter-based we are not leecher-unfriendly, rather trying to turn a leecher into a scripter, as most of us can truthfully state "I came here a leecher, but loved it so much I stayed to script"[/INDENT]
Why did we close?
[INDENT]The closure was a question of timing. While jagex was very strongly focused on java communities, such as RSBot, KBot and similar communities we saw not only a good time to close and keep our valuables safe, but it was also approaching the time when SRL was coming around the bend to be an even more active community than it once was. And so you may be wondering what these changes were?
- Simba! First and foremost, Simba. To all those who knew S.C.A.R. , this is your new best friend. Open Source, less errors and under constant development with an extremely competent team behind it. Simba is essentially a color clicker, SRL's favorite method of autoing. Simba acts as the human eye, finding your objects on the screen and it acts as the human hand, to the extent that it will click or type for you, as you wish it to. To go deeper into specifics:
- Simba is like SCAR based on pascal script.
- Simba is cross platform. Simba runs on Windows and in beta for Linux. (Apple Mac support is planned)
- Simba is 100% compatible with SRL.
- Simba is auto-updateable.
- Simba may at some point compile scripts to binaries.
- Simba is expandable with modules like Script Managers, Bitmap Editors and DTM Editors.
- Simba supports codefolding, codehints and provides the scripter with a lot of useful feedback.
- Simba is 100% open source and published under the GNU Public Licence.
- Simba starts where SCAR ended.
- The Simba core is being developed outside the realms of SRL and Villavu and as such have nothing to do with each other.
- Simba can auto-update SRL.
- Re-Structure After four years of constant growth the staff along with several members found that a re-structure was needed. We had grown to fit our whims, and we have now found a way to keep our whims organized. We have removed some layers to allow quicker access to things such as scripts, tutorials and general entertainment while adding some layers to keep the not-so-used things discreet while those who want them can easily find them. An example of this would be the 'SRL-Member Goodies' which includes the Black Market, SRL Merchanting, Runescape Trading and Runescape $$ Tutorials.
- Community Scripting An initiative long started, has recently come to show many fruits of hard work. Open to development and use by all, M.S.I. (standing for Multiple Script Integration) is a joint effort to develop a do-it-all-everywhere runescape script. It currently supports Woodcutting and Mining with several locations and has Fishing and Magic well underway. Easy to contribute and to use, MSI is perhaps the biggest group project SRL has ever seen. What else is there coming up?
- Script Manager Ever had trouble setting up? Finding a script? Downloading to the right folder and so on? Here is the answer to your prayers. The up and coming Script Manager *can* have an awful lot of features, from simple downloading, to auto-updating to rated scripts, direct links to the threads so you can post progress reports and any suggestions you may have, and sooner or later, Guild Members
- Guild Members Guild Member is a title that can be earned by keeping your own scripts up-to-date and functional. The exact requirements to become a Guild Members are still unclear, but the title is aimed at script activity. If you see one of these in the Script Manager, you can be sure there will be something special about the script.
- SRL - Stats Not with much urgency, there will be a new Stats system coming up. These will be linked to your forum account, and therefore have a high interaction with the community. More details on this will come nearer to the time. While you're waiting, you can use our temporary system, which has granted us a lot of data on how our scripts are run. You can find the Stats System here.
Anything else?
[INDENT]Yes. A few members of this community who had been banned in the past will be allowed back in. No bad deed goes unpunished, but people change, and therefore we believe they have taken their time to learn from their mistakes and straighten their paths in life. It is therefore the staff's decision to allow them the chance to go up the ranks once again.
