Outdated Scripts section?

I'm sure a lot of people have suggested to delete scripts that don't work anymore, but the only thing I could find on that is this - http://www.villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33532?t=36287

So, if the only reason they're there is to be learned off of, why not just make an Outdated Scripts section, which would be just like the normal sections, except all of the scripts there would be outdated (With seperate sections for outdated Members' scripts, Jr. Members', etc.). We could encourage authors of scripts to have Admins/Mods move their scripts to the outdated scripts section when they no longer think they'll update them, this way the normal scripts sections would be clean of old and outdated scripts.

This would stop noobs from saying 'z0mg n0ne of th33z scr1p7z w0rkz!', and would give SRL a better reputation.

EDIT: Maybe an archive section too? To cut down on what gravediggers can gravedig? Not that needed though..

Because even though the scripts in the tutorials might be outdated, the information inside the tutorial is usually very useful.

Yes, this would be very beneficial. So that I don't have to get a script just to find out its been outdated for some time.

I'm not talking about tutorials, just the scripts themselves (the one's you'd actually use) :p

The admins (& higher ups) refuse to prune users and/or threads/scripts :) end of this thread.

But this wouldn't really be pruning, just separating what works and what doesn't.

I like the idea, but who is to judge if it is 'outdated'. What if there is an update say to a furnace so someones smelter stops working. There should be a rule if it doesnt work for over 2 weeks its gets moved there, otherwise while someone is fixing a script it could get moved

The Author/co-author or someone close to the Author can judge that.

I propose the following:

Instead of moving outdated scripts to an outdated section, which would cause chaos unless we recreate the script section tree, maybe we should have an OUTDATED predicate, a tag like [OD] or a Picture in the first Post?

So my Ratz would become: [OD][SRL4] Ratz! Combat OverDrive 0.69

with a Picture on top of the first post:
OUTDATED
.

That would certainly help. Moreover you could keep threads open for discussion.

Can it not just be outdated scripts are locked and [OD] tags placed. That will stop gravediggers, stop retarted posts that they do not work, and still allow them to be archived in the forum for reference??

Just a thought.

The problem is that would be a lot of work for the admins (at first at least) to maintain wouldnt be bad, but i think maybe get some people who are willing, to test the scripts or try to compile them and have the admin or mod edit the first post with if they are updated or not

You can't help human stupidity. ALOT of people don't want to read anything, they just want to click run and be happy and then spam and gravedig, both at the same time, and may even migrate(?) to RSBot or something and then complain "lol scar dun work at all" in there…

Oh the laziness of us cheaters.

I agree with this. I have downloaded a couple of scripts (outdated ones) that don't work and it is very frustrating. Only thing I got to work was a tester that logged me in, moved the mouse around and then logged me out :(

The up-to-date and outdated sections sound like a good idea. Maybe the ones in the outdated sections could be used as a skeleton to another script someone might want to make?

^^ Well that's your own stupid fault then. Why download outdated scripts, it's stupid. ^^

Instead of having an outdated scripts section, have a working scripts section…
That makes more sense to me..

Even if they are just noobs who don't know anything about SCAR/SRL and try running outdated scripts, they always spread the word. So somebody who's looking for an autoing community (somebody who would actually contribute) might see all of these things about SRL 'None of the scripts work', '99% of their stuff is outdated', 'SRL is so complicated to use, so many errors that you have to fix', etc. They might actually believe it, and then that person starts saying that about SRL even though he's never used it, hurting SRLs reputation.

TViYH

Which is why it should be a Working Scripts section, leaving all of the other scripts deleted and/or hidden.

I like the OutDated scripts section and I think it would be cool if ALL outdated scripts went to a section that would be viewable to Jr Members that way Jr Members could possibly download outdated SRL members scripts and fix them on there own, Therefore they get scripting experience as well as better scripts than the Jr Memb scripts.

actually sounds like a good idea, but then juniors would get like 98/100 members scripts XD

Lol, If I get what you are saying then there are only like 2 working members scripts… lol… I'm working on a Member App atm that I will hopefully have done in like a week or two then I will post for people to test/give feedback then I will hopefully apply once I think it is ready.
