Reputation

Hey,

Again people start to give reputation to each other. This is fine with me, but the problem is that some take it seriously and some don't.

Left by - Left for - Date - Reputation - Reason

Hy71194 -Jason2gs - 05:08, 12th Feb 2008 - 5 - Please unblock me, my contacts list is boring without you!!! :( ~Hy71194 - Post

Hy71194 - Freddy1990 - 22:09, 31st Jan 2008 - 5 - Nice cookie pic, and please fix SCAR 3.14 and SRL rev #11 already! :P - Post

Those are examples of bad ones.

xinez - YoHoJo - 18:10, 12th Jan 2008 - 0 - Great Tutorial! - Post

jobby - The_Rs_Monkey - 14:14, 13th Jan 2008 - 0 - This Tut really helped me with some Errors! - Post

Those are reputations I agree with.

Now that people are giving out reputation again, it tells me rep means something to them. But they shouldn't abuse it just because reputation doesn't mean something here?
Discuss, please.

Hy is just a spammer.

I would recommend PMing him and talking to him about it. (A stern warning?)

If it continues, reset his rep to 0 - that way he can't give any out

The posts by Nauman and Da 0wner have received reputation. Not even by the thread starter nicbaz, but by Dude Richard. Reason: "Rep giving = fun!". He has been giving out 5 reputations in 2 minutes.

Me thinks we should make an announcement reminding people about the "Rules for rep" The whole don't tell people to give you rep etc speel.

Hy71194 zegt:
Lol. sorry.
Hy71194 zegt:
I will keep off the button
Hy71194 zegt:
Teribably sorry.

I hope he means it. Shall I make a general post about it? Hy's not the only one.

Yeah, so what do you suggest we do about it?

Make a post on howto use rep and that from now one abuse will result in being unable to rep again & a infraction

Or something like that?

Reputation and Resposability

Reputation is active once again.

Thanks to the reputation system we have a better overview of the forums, if you make a good post or help someone and receive rep we will know who deserves the helper bear cup or the useful poster cup just by looking at reputation. Or if you make a good complex script, not just that runs for long, but that uses advanced methods and you receive reputation for it, it will help us award the scripter's cup and the master's cup. Many wonderful things can come out of the reputation system, but it has to be used responsibly. Bad posts can result in negative rep and inappropriate repping has consequences.

Beware that giving out reputation like in the bad examples or in bad situations can have your reputation decreased and you can receive an infraction. Also it is forbidden to ask for rep; it will get you an infraction for it.

here are some examples:

***- *** - 18:10, 12th Jan 2008 - 0 - Great Tutorial! - Post

*** - *** - 14:14, 13th Jan 2008 - 0 - This Tut really helped me with some Errors! - Post

*** -*** - 05:08, 12th Feb 2008 - 5 - Please unblock me, my contacts list is boring without you!!! - Post
*** - *** - 22:09, 31st Jan 2008 - 5 - Nice cookie pic, and please fix SCAR 3.14 and SRL rev #11 already! :P - Post

i hope you can tell by yourself that the ones on the first quote box are good examples, and the ones on the second box are bad examples.

Good situations to give rep:
- Good Tutorial
- Good Script
- Helped you out well
- Good, deep, mature post
- Other examples here

Bad situations to give rep:

- He's my friend
- He gave me rep
- He's famous
- He said he likes me
- Just for fun
- Other examples here

- hope that helps you a little nielsie ;) maybe a section of when to give negative rep? but i had no idea other than insulting post. If they think we will keep a closer eye on reputation for the cups they'll have and incentive to use it properly.

Did you purposely pick reps about Hy

Anyways, I seriously think we need to make a post about giving rep "for fun" or whatever.

I've moved a thread from the moderators section to this section. I brought this up too and what the result of the topic was an announcement (that I still have to make). I skimmed through this thread and I think an announcement is the easiest solution.

I think this is an easier and better solution.

What is up with all this reputation business?
Reputation has no real meaning on this forum, so who cares if people sometimes give out useless rep? As long as reputation points mean nothing on SRL, these small games can do no harm.

Better focus on more important things.

Wiz is actually pretty right. Who cares about rep? The leechers.. just make a topic telling that rep doesn't means anything on this forum, that rep doesn't means that you're a great person. Make it a sticky and you can leave it like that I guess.

Besides that, we can add something new? If you see that a person has given rep for fun, then report the post or give him a warning and that's kinda it.

tsn, we cant say its useless and punish them for it, either we give it some use (or make it look as if it has some use) and then we can punish them for bad use or we tell them its useless (or why even bother) and just let things roll

now if you guys actually think it would be helpful to for example give out cups and maybe to avoid spam because people dont want to get minus rep then it might be a good idea to post something about it

So why not disable the whole thing?

My argument was that it creates a very strong positive atmosphere, and the way to stop rep abuse (and make it mean something, but not affect the forum so much) was to allow SSRL + to award it to others. It would create such a great atmosphere if someone could post a thread saying "I got 100 rep" in the celebrations forum.

Then we truly know who's helpful or not.

That's a very good idea (and I saw that idea before, from you I gues?), but I think that we are with to less people to give out rep..

Btw, great to here something from you again:)

Wizz the reason we're discussing this is because we're perfectionists and the blanket that is this forum has a random hanging thread…

Either get rid of it or do something useful / productive with it. No point in making something pointless if people still acknowledge it.

I agree, if people want to use it, let's use it. People are not just giving out for fun, there a just a few people who do. That's why I was thinking of a post to make it clear how it works.

As once before, I agree with Star.

We here might see reputation as useless, but trust me - many others don't. I think many new registrees know about rep from other forums, and when they come here we have a completely different system. So I, again, suggest SSRL+ to give out rep and everybody can see how much everybody has and SSRL+ can see who gave it, also.

It wasn't an attack on Wizz, I wouldn't want to get into that kind of fight :p
I was just saying as SB explained, we need to educate people or do something else.

Should only SSRL Members+ have the ability to +rep, though? Maybe make it SRL Member+? Rep would be very hard to get otherwise.

Sir R. M8gic1an

2008-05-15 02:45:45

not really, WhoCares, it's 20+ of us, we read around the forums and as we see good posts we just press the rep++ button, not real need to even leave a comment :p and some of the problems of rep are with srl members giving rep for fun because they know it's "worthless" or asking for rep.

are we gonna give the power to the problem? (srl members repping) Are they gonna start repping properly if it starts having a meaning and not repping properly has a consequence?

i do think that SSRL would be able to do the job, but i also believe that if it was given to SRL Members after a couple of infractions they'd behave. but to check if they were giving rep for fun without saying anything would fall on the admins' shoulders.
