Future of the SRL-Include.

WT-Fakawi

Friends,

SRL has undergone a tremendeous growth. In its -almost- 2 years existence it has attracted over 25k people worldwide. Yet the SRL forum still remains relatively easy to maintain, because it appeals to the common moral sense of the majority of the Young People of the New Era (you!). Though sometimes moralistic and uberbrave this still makes SRL unique and a good place to be.

But….

The SRL-include itself, the Heart of Cheating Runescape, has been neglected for some time, and is rarily updated anymore simply because Dankness and I dont have the time to prepare and release whenever one Bank Pixel gets shifted. Therefore we have decided to stop releasing SRL in its current form.

Instead, in the near future we will open a public Subversion (svn) repository where you can checkout the latest update anytime. This svn repository will be hosted by Dankness at SRL, and will be maintained by the one-and-only true SRL-devs and is thus 100% trustworthy.

This approach has a great number of advantages:

  • Faster updates. In fact, each time we commit, you can update.
  • Versioning. Svn Commits are versioned thus a SRL script can be tagged with a SRL#rev number. Each version can be downloaded from the server.
  • Better Compatibility. A silly bonebitmap update crippling all my fighters can be easily cured by keeping object bitmaps in the svn repository aot in the script itself.
  • Restructure and Expand. This new appoach will give us the neccesary push to clean up code and restructure the SRL-Include and expand it. This will take some time.

Nevertheless I hope this transition will take place very soon. This will give Ol' Man Fakawi some time to focus on other things in life too, knowing his SRL is in good hands. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. So be patient. All will be revealed in due time, but rest asure we are working on SRL 4.

So this is the last version of SRL? How about v4.0 so you can go out with a bang? The rest sounds good though :)

Just Kidding

2007-07-28 20:29:12

Sound good to me. It will definatly end alot of the posts associated with runescape updates that have not been fixed in srl (aka the bankscreen, login, box bmp ect.)

Thanks for all your guys work over the 2 years as well.

It's sad to see you do this. But I understand, and agree that this idea is best for everyone. Thank you soo much for your dedication to this project!

I like the idea of having access to the bleeding edge of SRL, and subversion is a great way to do it.

I hope you still find time to shove in your own expertise if jagex does something particularly tricky.

And I agree, SRL is a very good place to be. It is right in touch with where it needs to be, you have done an amazing job keeping it so.

Thanks.

Why are well all depressed about this? lol

This is a great thing to do

updates come out quicker and scripts are affected so much less.

This is a positive thing! It just means less work for Dank and Fawk :)

I suppose so, not all change is bad (most is good)

Its just that SRL is such a great thing… and it brings to wonder if a change can really better something that is already so good?

I'm slightly depressed that fawki won't have to spend day and night working on srl :p . I like how that forces him to pay attention to it, lol.

But yeah, this is a good thing, just give me a second to dry my tears.

Thanks a ton for your two years of hard work and perseverance, Fakawi, without you, none of us would be here today.

Thanks to all the dev's, too, for graciously donating your expertise to the SRL include.

great idea….certainly will speed things up a little bit, although i can't see how it's going to stop posts about updates as Dev's may not realise something has changed until someone tells them. Also maybe make an SRL updates board so if something significant happens people can say what needs to be done and Devs can also make a topic about them having updated <blah>….

Why all the sad faces?

This only means you don't need to wait several days for a small one pixel bank fix, it's only getting better!
SvN means quick bugfixes, plus you can actually stick with a version/revision of SRL you like..

I've worked more than 5 hours on SRL 4 today, and it's coming along nicely…

~alex~

2007-07-29 17:50:24

I was wondering why this was never done before, I know from people talking about it that the devs use SVN so I wondered why we all couldn't. I think this is a good idea and will greatly help SRL.

Edit: What new things can we expect in SRL 4?

I know this is a change for the good, but I think I'm sad too. I always get really happy to look at everything updated when a new version comes out. With this, though, it'll just be like "ah just another little change" instead of "wow look at all of this!".

Lots of cleanup, removal of lots of sillyness. Structural changes, more standardisation, less code, less includes, less booleans and options. Basically what we always have been wanting to do, but never dared do afraid to ruin running scripts. Depending on the speed of the devs involved, it can be prepped within a week, but thats just a wild guess. There are no obligations and a lot need to be negotiated :) It will be cool.

bullzeye95

I think he means taking out those little 1 line functions so the scripter just has a very little bit more work to do :) like the function InvFull. All it is is

function InvFull: Boolean;
begin
Result := InvCount = 28;
end;

I don't think InvFull will be taken out… But I think he is referring to a lot of the functions like that, although I could be completely wrong :)

bullzeye95

2007-07-29 21:27:06

Oh I see. Yes, that would make sense.

SRL 4.0 sounds great!

Now there's only the problem of the less booleans and options. I wubz booleans and options <3

Infantry001

2007-07-29 23:55:03

I don't. simplicity ftw woot

But, anyways, I think this is a very cool idea! Less trouble for everyone. I really do not understand why in the world anyone would be so sad about this.

You are completely wrong… :p

We took out alot of useless and old stuff.
I removed the global x and y.
I changed all the functions that use the global x and y to use local x and y's.
We are speeding up FindNormalRandoms, it will probably be 5 times faster, at least.
We are not removing important functions like InvFull, what Fakawi meant with booleans is the following:

BenMouse is now obligatory, I totally removed the Var BenMouse.
LoraxFTW is now obligatory, we now use Lorax' FindTalk, it has less or no errors and works alot better.
LogOutTime has totally been removed.
And a few more…

There will be some new booleans too, which I came across when making some human players interaction scripts..

UseFindMod and UseFindTrade, for the human interaction scripts….
You don't want a merchanter to use the FindTrade in FindNormalRandoms, nor do you want to logout for a mod… ;)

Please Note:
Most of the scripts may require some tweaking, because of the global x and y we got rid of, some other global timers we got rid off.
Also, the x and y that you needed to input in chooseoption are now removed, you only need to put in the text!

Alright, I was always hoping that the Dev's SvN would be released for everyone to download, just for that reason, to get all of the little fixes and updates here and there. Good job guys, also I haven't been on sourceforge in a while but is there a message board, so you can post things that we see, I just can't remember… -.-

Also, for anyone who cares, this is the same thing that MSI uses, its basically just a little server that when you download the SvN client you can retrieve updated information from, I think I have a little how to in the MSI section when I first posted the FCMB idea.

P.S. - If this is such a great thing why didn't you guys do it before? Just didn't want people to see little mistakes you made before you changed them or what? Just Curious :D

Since the word SvN brought MSI project to my mind, could MSI procedures and functions be applied to SRL? Because most of them (atleast my mage) functions and procs were total pwnage, it could be good.

Yes, they are slow because they are using up memorie when you dont need them to be.

They are uncontrolable because anything can change them. Local variables are safer because you have complete control, aka, they are only changed by the method they are in.

Benmouse false uses RsN spline (i think), which curves a lot less, therefore is much faster.

Uncontrollable, yes.
When I was removing the global x and y, and adding local x and y's, I came across some 'funny' examples.

I think these was a called function mouseuntilflag(xmod, ymod), which just started clicking on the global vars x and y until the flag was found, not even calling a getmousepos..
So basically it could start from inventory and end up out of the screen, and only after that stop clicking (it did had a failsafe for going out of the screen)

I really would hate to have to do your job, im sure in some instances you have to break a script and put it all back together. Oooo…Ron modified BenLand's function…:p

Lol…heaps of stuff in SRL is modified by Ron.

I tend to find when making simple scripts that serve no great purpose that BenMouse:= True; slows them down majorly. I support not removing it and simply leaving it set to True.

Fakawi isn't leaving though…. He may be less active but he'll still be around occasionally. Unless I missed some posts somewhere cause if you leave Fakawi I will be very sad.

Fakawi's not leaving! He just said he could concentrate on other things once this hard work is out of the way, because it will be a lot easier than. This isn't a hint of a activity drop or anything in my opinion.. :p

Also, x and y needed removal because it messes up your functions. Lets say you call a FindColor using those globals, then if true call a FindNormalRandoms. Which would then call FindTalk or something that could potentially change the x and y variables, making you ultimately click or move the mouse in a completely different place than intended.

I don't quite understand. What is SVN? Is it just like something where they would post a new update and we put it in SRL ourselves. Or is it a takeover by some other thing?

idc, i just whipped it up in 2 seconds, may want to make it neat and (fit in) to your tutorial, because you probally explain the "special software" and theres a better word for upload, just couldn't think of it.
