I type in user and pass etc, and the script literally just doesnt do anything. When I remove smart and use regular client, it works.

How do I get smart to be paired with the script I run? It seems like it's not connected in any way to the client, but for some reason it loads it. When I start script, nothing happens in the SMART client.

Make sure SMART is using the lowest detail and that it is enabled (the bottom left button should say "Disable SMART", not "Enable SMART")
