Applications are getting REDICULOUS!!!

So I was just browsing through the applications as I do when I get bored, and I expect to see MANY people who are making themselves look like idiots.
Just now, the first 3-5 do at least one of the following:
- No SCAR tags
- Copied script
- No script
- Crappy script (auto talker etc.)
Now I realize not everyone is gonna make a script that totally amazes us all, but this is getting rediculous… I almost think that we should close down applications, or get rid of a ton of the free scripts or something… It just seems STUPID!
~Abyssal
As I made a note in one of them, I think we need to check some IP address, I know it's possible that alot of people use a proxy, But I just have a feeling, that some of the first time posters are just doing this out of retribution for a previous denial…More likely than not, it is because of the recent advancements in SCAR/SRL and the newest releases that are making this site more popular, thus seeing an influx in "immature" users… I realize that it seems the average age here is 13 and many people are more advanced then their age , but there is also many people here that either lack common sense, good judgment, or are just plain lazy to read before posting… although frustrating, I think everyone needs to take a deep breath, try and limit their flaming of these new people, and instead ,point them in the right direction….I have always loved the "Nooby Tutorials" by Boreas, and I think they need to be implemented more…simply ask them to read these, As well as "How to be a SRL member" by JAD….As far as closing the Apllications for these reasons, i don't think it is a viable option, there is still new undiscovered talent out there…… RAM

About the SCAR tags.
There should be some kinda of message saying that you need to use tags. Because it can be pretty confusing when there is only box and it says"Paste your code here."

We're just about as hard on membership at UBP as SRL is ;) Only person who's a member on there whos not a member on here is rudeboialex, and he's cool/ a pretty good scripter.
I don't find it a big deal taking 5 minutes of your whole week to respond to a few blank/coppied apps….. And actually,
YOU DON'T HAVE TO POST IN ALL APPS!!! If you don't like it, don't post in the apps section. I have nothing against the people protesting against this, but theres nothing that can be done, and there never will be so just leave it be, or never look at the apps section again. That simple.
I was a registered user here for a little over 2 weeks when I applied/got accepted, its all about your work ethic so I don't agree with that 1 month thing.

I think making it so that you can only apply after 10 (or some number) posts will help more than closing apps.

I agree applications are getting out of hand, but closing them all together isn't the answer. I agree with what Boreas said, but maybe slightly higher, maybe 30 posts.

I.The Problem
The section does not need to be closed, however individual posts that are terrible such as "copyiers" need to be removed and the poster be PM'ed because those posts are distracting people from voting/ giving feedback to the good applications where the aplyee actually put some thought into his application .
Making it so that you have to have a certain number of posts will not solve the answer either because as we all probably already know we are on a war with spam. And with people thinking post count is important will start posting very very low quality posts to boost their post count so they can apply as-quickly-as-the-forum-flood-control-will-allow-them.
___________________________________________
II.The Solution.
Instead, we should do as I suggested, remove the threads that are distracting the votes/ 'feed backers' from the real applications. This can be accomplished by having moderators or people with specific jobs (like YoHoJo) monitor this section and have the 'tools' to delete any required threads and Private Message the User that posted it.
___________________________________________
III.The Result.
People that are serious about becoming members will be able to achieve their goal much more quickly.
___________________________________________
Closing the section will not solve any of these problems,
no.

Icefire, that seems like a very good idea.
I like how you have the idea of making a few people who delete threads and stuff like that in there and moderate that section. That would work great.

Eurm…Revert back to the old days? Where Rep counted? Cuz then non-srl membs can give 1 rep, with at least 50 posts, and srl membs can give 5, devs give 10, admins give 30
At 30, you are a member

Eh, i've never liked rep. It is too arbitrary. I see some people getting repped for really lame stuff that you shouldn't get a better reputation for knowing, like providing a link for scar, fixing a missing semi-colon etc.

I forgot to say that if a minimum post count system is put in place, non members would not know about it, because that would increase useless posts. The majority of <10 post apps are from people that don't even know what SRL member is, and think it's part of registration. So if the apply button was invisible, they wouldn't spam to make it visible because they don't know it exists.

Possibly, but it must remain low i.e. 1-10 posts and as you said Non-Members should not know about it, and if they do it's ok because that probably means as you said they will know what SRL members is eliminating another chunk of those low quality applications.

Yea, I know I haven't been here for a while. I was just responding to ejjman's suggestion that we go back to a system where rep matters. Obviously I don't know how it was back then; those were just my feelings about how rep is currently working.
I think we should try boreas's idea. Although I'm not sure how long it would stay secret for since they would notice stuff referring to "members" pretty quickly and figure out that they just needed to spam their posts up.

I think that also when they hit 10 posts that a link will pop up to your tut on how to become SRL member and after they have read (or scrolled through) then they can apply for member.

It doesn't need to be secret, just enough to where the people who know about it will be smart enough to know what SRL member's is and actually KNOW what they are doing when they apply.
Um, I tend to agree with myself about the response I made in this guy's app ;), lol,
Woei, as mentioned before, there was a paragraph at the top of your application page that explained what is expected of an applicant……Perhaps we need a check box, stating if you click here you have read and understand the policies, then after having acknowledged it, and you fail to provide a script, you give authorization to have SRL Forums to contract with the Hell's Angels to come to your home and …you get the idea…maybe this would make people think twice, Meh, doubt it……

First off, Anybody else see the Humor in his Pacifistic Behavior, when his own name is derived from a cartoon character depicting a Neanderthal Child carrying a club, smashing things……..I'm sorry, my mistake, that is spelt with 2 "M"s, you must be referring to the now diciest Wrestling character..that made his living "Throwing People Around"…..or maybe..it was the dictionarys version of ……a loud thud, as that produced when two objects strike against each other with force.:duh:
No, I was 100% serious…BamBam…I respect your views, but, "
I still tend to agree with myself", I made the comment before, about posting some kind of check box, stating you have understood the aformenmtioned paragraph…While I understnad , English is not everyone's first language, if you can't understand it enough to know that you are required to post a script, than I think you have far more concerns than try to become a member…such as learning English enough to understand how to script in the first place…. [offtopic] Other than obviously Chinese, does anyone know of any other languages, programs have been written in ? [offtopic]…also, added in would be another small paragraph noting your consequences, if you fail to post a script…Bodily injury is just one of the many I have thought of….public tar and feathering…standing in the corner whilst wearing a Dunce
Cap...temp/perm ban from forums for a set period of time..opening yourself up to flaming and ridicule..and the list goes on….Some good, some not so good….personally, I don't mind helping out, that's what attracted me here…however, this post is about flaming..and yes, I think it needs to be kept to a minimum…I can't promise not to ever do it, because when you see an application that says "Hey,I know I have no experience, but I'm from Las Vegas and I'm a really cool guy"…it's hard to always bite your tounge….I think If someone feels an urge to unleash on someone out of frustration, you should at least express WHY you are angry with them…and Validate this by either providing a link or quoting your information…such as I have been doing…highlighting the parts in the paragraph on the application page, that said they needed to submit a script in the first place…..
EDIT:, Sorry, this is the RANT for closing the application Polls…and BAM BAM…I'm sorry to jump to conclusions….perhaps your name implies that you have or are seeking….a Bachelor of Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Music……or you are trying to let us know your origons are from an ancient city in southeastern Iran, However doubtful, because it was destroyed by an earthquake in 2003….

No, I was not joking.
My name implies nothing about my personal nature, except for the fact that it was the first stupid thing to pop into my 12 year old mind when registering on Sythe a very long time ago.
I do however feel obligated to admit I'm not the pacifist that post made it seem like I am. I don't particularly care if a temp ban is a consequence of applying with a crappy application and I defiantly don't care if they get banned for stealing a script.
I think that a bare minimum of fifteen or more posts before the link to apply even shows up would be a great addition to the application system. I know, that Dankness could improve the Application form by requiring that people post something in a text box that becomes enclosed in SCAR tags fairly easily.

My solution, have another section after you've applied and you can't view any of the script sections and you need to apply with another script, may cause more problems than solutions but at least they can only apply if they make a new acc/have a script to copy on their desktop, or make one.

We keep the same section, except change SRL Member to SRL Applicant, they can see everything SRL members can see, except script sections(free script sections hidden too), and they need to apply again with a different script before being able to see the new scripts.
As I said, it may cause more problems than solutions so I'm not sure if it would be put into effect.

Honestly Yoho pretty much already does that lol..
But What I think we should do is something "like" reputation, I don't know a lot about managing forums but it would be cool to add in.
What we'd do is as an SRL Member / Dev / Whatever we would have the option to give free users a "Application Point" or something, like normal SRL Members could at max, give 1 per person, and Dev's could give 3 per person, or something, this doesn't mean you can only give one point ever, just 1-3 points to that particular person. Dev's can give 1-3 points depending on whether or not they really like them. If the members noticed him and thought it he'd make a good member they could give him him "rep" or "Application Points" and when they get enough application points "maybe like 20" then the option to apply would become available. Maybe send them a private message telling them they can now apply.
So in Summary
Application Points - Like Reputation
– SRL Member Get 1 Point per Person. *So noobs don't make more noobs*
– SRL Dev's Get 3 Points per Person. *… They're Devs*
– At 20 or so Application Points [AP] Thread to Apply Becomes available.
PROS
– Still Gives everyone a say in who joins and who doesn't.
– Weeds out crappy applications i.e. Blank Applications.
– Most likely won't have copied Scripts.
– Give more deserving people SRL Member Status.
CONS
– Takes a little bit more time.
– Undiscovered scripters may not be discovered.
– May make people upset hiding the Application Section.

I think there should be no option to apply, instead if a Dev or someone notices that a person has made a few good good script, have been friendly and helpful then they can refer them, when they are reffered a PM is sent to them with a link to create thier application and a guide telling them what to put on it and an example of a good app, they then create thier app and it is posted in the app section and people vote and post the same as they do now. This would encourage people to always be good, helpful, make useful posts, and create scripts until they are reffered, by then they would be ready and have got into good habbits. It would also mean every app is ligit.
Edit: Lol, been said, still good idea

Hey but thats free members they don't always know how/when its appropriate to give rep… Also I don't think I deserved rep from that lol. See SRL Members know when / where to give rep, and it would show on like some members section thread what non members have received Application points and it would give a link to the post. So if there was like a really lame thing that gave the non member an AP we could either suspend the SRL Members voting abilities who gave the person their point, or just take away the point that was given.
