you don't have to pay. If you ask nicely and even look at tutorials you will find the community is pretty generous with help.

SOOO helpfull. Especially with learning how to script.
I would recommend reading (watching :D) this tutorial on DTM bascis. It really helped me when i first started scripting and needed to know how to create and use DTM's.

Video didn't really help, I can set them but then my character will walk another way. I still need help in this and I am WILLING to pay if wanted.
