Wiki brainstorm

Hi all,

So we are bringing back the wiki, although this time I want it to be organised properly. Last time it was mostly just a copy and paste from the forums which was never maintained.

I made a page on how we should set up the wiki, please add to it as you wish: http://villavu.com/wiki/Wiki/Brainstorm

Comments, place them here rather than in the wiki Talk: page… ;-)

E: So just to make it clear, you're all invited to add to the page if you think you have a useful addition.

SRL-007 (the 7 is a bit confusing here actually)

Call it SRL-2K7 to reduce the confusion.

Looks great so far. Only issue is getting people to actually write the pages. =\

I like writing stuff like this and would love to write a few pages, but right now my primary concern is SRL-6 and MSI. I'll do what I can in the planning, and maybe write some pages when SRL-6 and MSI are done. :)

I think the biggest thing I want to emphasize is the tutorials part. Like you said, the Wiki should be a source of information for everything we do here. I do not want to see tutorials on the Wiki for a few reasons. One, they won't be maintained; instead the forum version will be maintained. Two, how are people going to get help on something when you can't post and have a discussion on a Wiki. And three, just no.

That's really the only thing I want to stress; everything else looks good so far. I especially like the idea of a "people" page. We'll be able to describe everyone that made SRL what it is today. Very cool.

So, pages like this? http://villavu.com/wiki/Simba_Structure

(it is only a start)

That's nice. :) I would definitely find that interesting. You should capitalize Simba everywhere, though. :p

I think that's the right idea of what the Wiki should look like.

I'd still like the autodocs on the wiki

But why?

Code highlighting might be useful, though.

It seems like it would be more used and easier to navigate in a wiki format (IMO)
I'll look into a code highlighting plugin.

He lost some info due to a refresh. (IOW he doesn't mean it)

I think there should be a link to the docs rather than having them in the Wiki. Code highlighting will definitely be useful.

MediaWiki has a GeSHi code highlighting extension (same as we use on the forum) so I'll implement that later.

Also what about SRL-OSR ?
Idk, SRL-2K7 is strange to me.

2K7 is the naming from a shitty brand of sports video games. :p Honestly, I like SRL-007. SRL-OSR is nice too, though.

I added a bit more text to the wiki. Specifically:

  • Subgroups
  • Projects
