I Don't even think i need to say much, that sums it up. I mean seriously…Cant find the antileech in a 20 line script.

This guy needs some SERIOUS help. And not with the antileech

Lack of common sense kills me to see lol

Well I get the point and all that, but you should also keep in mind that most powerbot users is very young, i've been a Moderator there twice and I can tell you this, I felt way too old for that community sometimes.

Yeah true, I love to help people, and when people actually ask to for something help learning im more then glad to help them. But im not going to spoon feed them.

Common sense> knowledge in my mind, If you apply common sense to most things in scripting once you learn the basicis, you are very well off.

I've been a member since 09 on there and the trouble with pb is it had the potential to be a great community (i quite liked the buddy community because bullshit posted was at a minimum) but instead it just turned into one massive spam forum with no real control of what users post. If they started to infract/ban users more then maybe it'd be better but its probably to far gone now.

personally i just buy what bot need and post to say thanks to the script writer and that's about it

Which is pretty sad considering the amount of active users that forum has

Because we wouldn't have straight up given it to him/her, we would have encouraged them to learn, and given them pointers in the right direction. Unfortunately, I doubt he/she would have ever taken the effort find out.

When did it become that case that botters were leechers rather than programmers?

I actually find it interesting when new users join. Of course, many users from our competitors are not interested in becoming a programmer. Maybe we should be more open to them, and just remove the anti leech from most scripts? We can't really expect everyone to become amazing at scripting. How odd would it be if other software introduced anti leech? Like, yeah you can use windows, but first you have to fix these obvious problems in the kernel! <- that would kinda suck.

I think we shouldn't just look at what they are doing wrong. It might be beneficial for both if we can find a way more between us, instead of just drawing it on our side.

The issue is accessibility, back when there was the 7 day/10 post limit, you didn't get many leechers, because they'd realise they had to wait and move on. Adding anti-leech is just the individual scripters way of preventing this. I'm sure if the user asked the scripter nicely how to fix the script, they'd happily give them a bit of advice as to what to look for.

Those who can't program will find themselves woefully behind in the 21st century. Programming is a way of thinking, and those who aren't willing to persevere will suffer in the long-term.

I'm a new member here, and I'm honestly glad for the Anti-Leech. I program in my spare time and at school, but I'm not familiar with SRL/Simba/Pascal (Not sure about the proper name) 's syntax.

Looking through the code, everything is INCREDIBLY simply. For example, here's a snippet of code:

if(P07_InvFull) then
begin
GoToBank;
OpenBank1;
BankLogs;
GoToTrees;
end;

This shows what's happening in plain English. Solving the anti-leech in this code only requires you to a) Know the syntax and/or b) be able to follow the logic.

The benefit of this is that would-be leechers are now equipped with the skills and knowledge to build and write their own scripts, in turn creating more productive members.

It's a phenomenal system.

Problem is when people add stupid anti leeches such as removes procedures and making user make their own DTM's. New users need to learn the difference between releasing a script with anti-leech and releasing a plain bad half written script

RJJ, this isn't an attack at you, this is plain truth.

You have had memory leaks etc in your scripts. I know it's annoying but to be fair making users make their own DTMs when you cause leaks etc isn't fair.
Also with your comment

With regards to this, you haven't produced the best scripts and the anti-leech has been pretty bad, so on both accounts you've not done great for both your arguments.

Just saying.

My powerminer had a few problems I'll give him that, but I don't think a anti leech should be making the user fill in the DTM's UNLESS they are all grouped in a procedure

Anti-leech should be given based on what the person who made the script believes. We have no right into telling what they can or cannot do with their script.

Xeronate

2013-03-02 15:27:39

I agree with Danny that the reason for antileech in 07 is because people want the game to have longevity. I also agree that making a DTM part of the antileech is a bad idea, but it is super easy to learn how to make a static DTM so I guess its not that bad.

The post count thing is actually pretty clever, I would support that.
I also support anti-leech because once you learn to troubleshoot about 5 of them, you can do all of them unless the person is being a jerk. This causes people to put in the 5-15 minutes of effort to make it work and it prevents the leechiest of leechers :p

Very true, but anybody who has even a little bit of scripting knowledge would notice those safety issues quickly in an obfuscated script and report it (like the use of sockets or something else that has nothing to do with how the script should function).

I can tell you, there is a huge possibility that I wouldn't be around doing scripting/programming of anykind right now, if SCAR scripts would have had antileech in em during 2003-2004 (SCAR 1.12/1.13 days).
Even though I was a serious leecher back then, and I didn't understand much of the language, I was still REALLY inspired of the way things just "magically" worked - and that's exactly the main reason why I wanted to learn to write stuff aswell!

I know there will always be majority of those people who will never get into the coding but they just keep on leeching, HOWEVER, there is still that group of guys, who are like me, they like to see things work without any obstacles and if the things do work without obstacles, someday they may be around here contributing stuff back to the community. :) Sometimes with new ideas and solutions!

So I agree with many people here, it would be really good thing to remove those "antileech" protections from scripts..

This was just my two cents here, of course.. :p

Yea this is true, but we all know what kind of people im talking about, im not classing anyone really for using a site. I have pb to, dont use it anymore but i read the forums. And most people here do it. Its just the people who come ONLY when pb is down and leave when pb is back up that annoy us.

This is why I feel we should introduce the old 7 day/10 post system, so you had to wait that long to get access to get hold of decent scripts. It's that, and the positive attitude that members of this community had, that led to me scripting, personally.

Everyone has different motives though :)

BadKarma

I can see both sides of the coin here.

On one side I could just bide my time and get access to scripts without having to really do anything. On the other side of the coin I have to put in time and effort, learn something, and hopefully give back to the community.

Maybe a time requirement ( 6 months? ) with constant positive activity / contributions? That would probably take care of the leechers / kids who just want to press play. I can't see them hanging out for 6 months without begging "gimme" but I could see them joining and doing nothing for 6 months.

Under the present system I have learned quite a bit. That probably would not have happened if it was just handed to me. Anything worth having is worth working for.

Just my thoughts………

+rep for that if I could

I've honestly never before botted runescape, however I used to bot 11+ accounts back in the days of Glider for World of Warcraft. Selling the gold and accounts made me enough money to keep me a top of the line computer for awhile. It really feels good to be back into another botting community as I've been out of the game for awhile, and I can honestly say this is a community you can be proud of being apart. The average intelligence level is well above the average, the mods and members and extremely helpful and nice, and it's scary how hard it seems to become an actual member xD
