Botting on Old School RuneScape (2007)

Justin

2013-02-23 19:47:18

Since we have some members working on some type of include, I was just wanting to know what you guys thought about keeping all of the Old School RuneScape scripts and include in the SRL Members board until (and if) other java bots get their reflection up and running.

Since Jagex respected us in what we wanted, (An old school server) I think we should return the favour by trying to reduce the amount of bots that will be running around in the game.

I am sure the people who are playing OSR are having a awesome time being able to ask a question and get almost everyone responding and not have to watch bots just run back and forth slaving away.

Do you REALLY want to see this destroyed so quickly?

Thanks for reading

Justin

I'm agreeing with you on this, it may not be long before the java bots take over but i would like to enjoy my time without seeing a ton of bots at every location :).

Yeah, I had forgotten how fun it was to actually be able to interact with people while fishing. And wasn't the reason for people wanting the old school servers that they wanted to play old rs? I don't see why they just want to bot it before even playing a day legit.

DannyRS is working on an include which has been used to make a public miner. So that's pretty realistic.

Blame Rjj for that, if theres even blame to be had lol, I told him to add anti leech, but he gave up on that,

Tbh I'd rather the include be public, but scripts be mem+, but unless you want to ban releasing 07 scripts in the public section, Thats unlikely I guess,

Member's don't use scripts, so releasing something normally means it will not be ever used, and kinda defeats the purpose and everything goes to waste

Yer, he's a SRL-Member if it he was anything less i would agree in what your saying. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate the mass number of leechers botting away at any script he makes. I thought everyone would be on the same mind set as me..this vote is always gonna be biased, i can try to understand why you would think people would vote no, but i just don't think anyone would.

Members do use scripts, they just don't leave feedback, they have a repelling attitude to leaving feedback. i know this because i do this quite often and i'm positive many other people do it too.

You maybe used one like one of ashaman's or flight's nature runes, because they are so good and make alot of profit, when was the last time you used a simple powerminer by Someone else?

I'm assuming you can script, as I don't know,

I have plenty of scripts and am botting away happily, and never released a single thing publicly, because I Agree with you about the stupid willow choppers and such, I can't control what other people make public,

I really don't appreciate people using what I made to make stipid leeching scripts, but what can I do really, can't have one without the other I suppose, ask the mod's to make it against the rules to post 07 scripts,

If no-one ever gives any feedback, then what do you expect to happen, no apparent interest, take it to where there is interest (public) and get some feedback, maybe help perfect a script

What your saying is true, but this thread is talking about a time frame in which we keep everything SRL-Member only for the next couple month / week / however long it takes for powerbot to f*ck up Runescape Oldschool to an extent in which our community won't have an impact on prices etc.

Apparently Powerbot is still discussing to keep a new client/scripts for 07 private. Not sure how that will go, but I hope they do. It would be pretty cool if all the bot developers/script writers agreed to not publicly release anything for botting on 07.

No matter what happens, if 07scape continues to be for P2P-only then bots will remain limited. Jagex saw what happened with their main RS, and it's a mess with all those bots. I'm sure they will take a much harder stance vs botting as they did back in 2007.

Or else people will lose interest and history will repeat it's self lol.

I mean Jagex really gave themselves another chance in returning back to their glory days. Will they choose to ruin that again? This is Jagex's last chance to make up for all their past f**k ups. How much chances do you really think they will get?

Hope they realize that.

Hopefully we can most 07 scripts members, really as long as people don't really figure out how to edit smart I don't think much botting will be done with simba only powerboat can really mess this up, get a feeling they would try to sell a bot for 07 servers

Yeah I totally agree with this. Not that I'll be playing but I don't want anything to be ruined for those who do play - it's a chance to start again without the previous mess of the last 10 years or so.

I'd say keep it members too.

I think some stuff can be public but the mass botting tools should stay private for a while.

Such as 2007 SMART, random solvers, gold farm scripts.

DannyRS

2013-02-24 04:36:01

Honestly this is my view, everything in the public Include I made could be written in 5 min's, or even use something like just looking top left for contains color, blue, yellow, orange, etc, theres little difference between that and uptext,

By not even having a basic Include for the public scripter's, they make stupid static clicking scripts using the wrong old mouse functions, maybe even not using MMouse, and then we keep everything private, so the only stuff out there for the world to see is this garbage that runs for less than 30seconds before breaking, that makes us look bad to the rest of the botting/cheating community, I know some of you don't care about Simba's reputation and don't care what others think of us, and thats fine, but I do,

Most useful thing I have in there is probably the dropall function or something, that no green panted bald goldfarming willowchopper is going to want lol,

S.M.A.R.T looks like it's out the bag atleast, guess you can blame Ben for making it so damn good and only needing a new address lol, we should keep random solver's private I guess, because that's like the ultimate anti-leech tool, nothing can run in simba for more than 30mins ish without causing a random, and most goldfarmer's won't put up with that

I've been botting since yesterday :) Simple power chopper :D I love how very few bots out here, and wait so reflection will be reformed? Though Jagex took that stuff out :O? Btw randoms/Ent doesn't let me stay up for very long (which is okay, I usually have my eye on it while I web-browse/watch tv/do homework :).

Loving this old runescape, love how hard it is to make 1k and the value of money. Although even if bots do come out from the JAVA side… I still think the market and all will be still awesome. Only thing that is scaring me will be Gambling…

07scape needs no gambling, bots I believe would be okay…Pretty sure Jagex will go really hard on the botters soon or later ya?

I think random solvers should stay private, but I see no harm in releasing some scripts that let people raise skills.
Examples:Powerchopper, chop&burn, chop&fletch, powermine, powerfish, fish&cook
We could also have some combat scripts that do not loot. (I checked out one of the eeaaarly versions of tarajunky's chickenkiller, I bet that could get running fast and collect feathers, but goldfarmers would abuse it)

Its not like there are other scripts..

I think most of the SRL members+ don't really care about other bots communities. I was in pb's forums for few hours, it was the hell on earth, imo. Do we even want them here? (I ask, because I have no idea of the major opinion concerning this)

Honestly I don't want them here. I love the community of SRL and it's a warm and welcoming one. I have experienced the pb one and eb and I have to say it's been pretty brutal with flame wars and anti social behavior.
So I guess I'm saying that I like the fact that this is a tight knit group. :) lets keep it this way

does that include making new text bitmaps (or using existing ones, I think @DannyRS; has oldschool rs UpChars, iirc) for the OCR, or just editing the built in functions to be more versatile/offset in a wider range?

Somebody else in another thread found the old bitmaps, I think I re-uploaded for everyone a few pages back, in my include I edited the bitmap's to be only 1 pixel out, and used GetTextAt, exactly around the text, not just in the top corner of the screen, Idk if that will ever cause issues with anything, but it seems to work as expected

Keeping it private ``so you can enjoy it while it lasts'' is IMHO not a valid argument. And people will leak it anyway, and then maybe modify it to give us a bad name. Once something works, just put it out there. It's also a way of getting new members, fresh blood, getting people more interested in our community. Keeping everything private and secret always is not the way to go forward IMHO.

P1ng

2013-02-25 05:37:13

There is already so much interest in the lower boards for bots concerning this new branch of runescape that there WILL be public bots using Simba very soon, if not already. I see no reason to not release the include and scripts in the public section. It will attract attention and new users and as always the people who are looking for a "quick-fix" to botting will return to places like PB quickly.

Keeping the randoms and well-made scripts that can ruin the economy are more than welcome to be kept private or in the members only section as with scripts for normal runescape.

To be honest I think it is really stupid to keep an _include_ private! If you want to keep scripts to yourself, that's fine. But why keep the include a secret? And why would you exclude random solvers? That only cripples the image of the include and the site. Sure, you can keep some scripts private, but don't make people redo an include just because you want to make everyone's life harder.

Disagree, its a way of getting new members most of which are leechers..IMO all we have to do is kinda advertise, if we wanted more members. (we are doing already as this seems to be the botting community with the most prospects for RS07). if people were that determined and interested then they'd learn as they have motivation to get to that point (Members), rather then us just giving it away for free.

As for the include, i think its wanted purely because if scripts do get leaked the include wont be available for leechers? Im pretty sure this community releases fixes on the include quite frequently. thinking logically, this would either make leechers, learn how to fix it themselves or try to get a copy of the latest include some other way (leaking etc).

Even though, will they always have the latest include? will they always have the latest revision? instantly as soon as it gets released? this again stops the amount of botting and frequency of botting.

Maybe for a day till whoever leaked it wakes up, the Include will reach a point where it doesn't need updates, and there's no updates for 07Scape, so stuff *should* never break

Cant be 100% sure it stays private especially with the open source character of Simba.

Logging in and connecting to a server to receive stuff would not make sense. Other bots do that though.

So how will you write a script to become a member, if there is no include? You can't expect people to figure it out themselves by providing them with a broken program and requiring them to fix it.

There will be an include, the one for RS2013? I doubt everyone will stop using it. no-one is stopping them from using that..until they become a SRL-Member. Lets be honest, apart from the status, SRL-Member's proves no major benefit to anyone who get's there. We say that there's scripts in Members which are unique and amazing, yet people release good scripts to new comers, there's nothing at all wrong with that except the reason there releasing them is because noone in SRL-Members takes time to test / post feedback. If we made the RS07 include SRL-Members only, it would allow new comers to actually learn the language and give a bit more to the community rather then leaching. This would still be Open Source, but people would have to learn to view it. If the include ever gets leaked, which it will, then they'd have to learn how to fix it anyways when RS does update.

I'm for publicizing new content/code.

Why? I put learning and knowledge over gameplay enjoyment. Granted many may/may not share the same ideals, however, being proactive with our knowledge will strengthen those interested in learning and reading public code. Granted there's the feared `` leech, '' however that comes with a script release (in my opinion anyways). I wouldn't be concerned about `` leeching '' if all that was being done was new include/code content updating..

Any who, I guess I stick out like a sore thumb on this thread, but I hope people understand my point of view :/

Cheers,

I agree with Wizzup 100% on this one.
OR
I say we make is SSRL+ only and not allow for SRL members to use at all (everyone here would agree with that right? and be fine with it?)

I love how everyone is saying, "don't release it to the public, it will ruin it…" isn't that exactly what you are doing anyways by simply botting at all? You are ruining it for all the others that are actually playing legit. It's not like RuneScape 07 is a BRAND new game…it was botted back in 2007 also, so why not bot it now? Also, it would help prevent people from leaching, was everyone who first came to this forum not a leacher? and just looking for a quick script to help to the grinding parts of RuneScape? I doubt anyone new to the botting scene has ever joined the forums and thought, "I am not going to just use a bot/script, I am going to wait until I am able to fully write my own and support it myself"…no.

Release it to the public, there is no reason not. 07 scape didn't remove any of the grinding nature from the game, if anything it has re-introduced the more annoying parts. Keep scripts private, members+, etc… but don't keep the ability to let people bot and be creative on 07 scape private.

I'm sorry but I honestly laugh out loud at a comment like this. We are mainly a botting community focused on a game called RuneScape. Did YOU not come here to bot on RuneScape? Not releasing the 07 Include is crippling to the community and what we are here for, we are here for people to learn and having the 07 scape include available to the public would, without a doubt, enable people to learn that may not have.

I came onto the botting scene in '07 and would never have had the opportunities to learn like I did if the include would have been private back in 2007, stop holding onto your nostalgia…

I don't bot on RuneScape really anymore but I come here now as a place for learning and seeing new things being done on this side of the game.

I recall SRL was about learning programming and automation in runescape without hurting the game, not hoarding gold and rapeing the game and ruining the game experience for legit players. Maybe those principles died before you chipped in. And without having to learn to program for SCAR back in the day I probably would have never even gotten intrested in programming in general.

If we give means for every joe with 0 programming knowledge to goldfarm, we are absolutely undermining everything SRL was founded upon.

I agree,

if people don't want to publicize their scripts in fear of leeching, I understand. However I don't understand the limiting of others learning via excluding the public from old school include functionality.
At least that's my two-sense

I can agree with the fact that include probably should be public, however if there is to be public scripts for 07, they should the very least be non-profit ones and should be enforced that way. The ones racking profit, even a small amount per hour, is just indirect support to average guy who basicly just farms gold.

Ashur2Good

There's no argument here. The include should, and hopefully will, be released to the public.

This is SRL, not powerbot.

Hobbit

2013-02-27 19:45:03

The official SRL include for Old School Runescape (SRL-007) will be public. As said before, this does not mean that you have to release your scripts to the public. Keep scripts members+ if you want to, that is your work and so it is your decision. The SRL include is the work of this community and so every member of this community will get access to it. We are about sharing knowledge and helping each other grow and learn more. We are not about hoarding our knowledge until it becomes irrelevant.

Richard

2013-02-27 19:54:04

I would like to agree with the OP, but the motivations to limits scripts seems to be one of elitism rather than ethics.

Personally, I think botting in 07 should be heavily discouraged because the whole concept of it is that of encouraging the community together. To thrown bots into the mix entirely defeats this purpose. I'd rather not see people who have put ridiculous effort in to get to the top of the highscores be taken down because some inconsiderate bot owned has 24/7'd a skill (I know we don't operate like this, but you know some people can't resist).

However, my opinions are heavily biased, I actually disagree with botting now, but SRL is so freaking awesome that you can never really leave it.

You are assuming everyone is going to abuse it, that is a problem. Those principles never died before I came because afaik they are still around today. But if you would have came here and WHAM ERROR ERROR ERROR, would you have stayed? or if you didn't have the availability to use something, then learn from it, would you have stayed too?

That is how I learned and got interested in the first place, I found a script thought it was awesome that it could do it then thought,"how does that work". Keeping it private would have totally even taken that chance away.

Reasons on both behalfs:
Why should I be restricted when I've already proven I'm worthy of being part of the community
Some people leak in SRL
If I contribute should I not be rewarded with other peoples SSRL Snippets?
If I am rewarded and I release them in public everyone will see them

This last week has been one giant dejavu. I am -for the first time- really enjoying playing legit. I rushed to the top and I am now conveniently making lotsa money with my newly obtained thieving, mining, smithing. crafting, magic and RC. Doing great…. and all legit.

Here are my thoughts:

Why is everybody playing?

I have spoken to many players last week, mostly long time players, sometimes with 10 years of playtime experience. They are all playing for two reasons:

1. Everybody starts all over again. From scratch, tut island, no money, the works! Noone has anything! This is historically unprecedented! A total reset of a such a large MMORPG 's userbase? Never seen that before. This generated an adrenaline rush even I couldnt resist. See above.
2. No bots. There are virtually no bots. If they appear, I am sure everybody just give up entirely and OSR will die quickly.

This does create a true paradox for us! The more we bot the faster it will die and turn into 100% botcity, just look at modern rs now.

But assuming others will develop a bots for OSR, there is nothing stopping us releasing anything. Moreover, we are a cheating/learning site. We cant pretent we're not botting. Impossible.

So:

release the include publically -duh-, with everything in it. No tricks, no backdoors, just the include. Keep scripts, especially the real good ones, to yourself. Refrain from banking scripts in public. The longer we can prevent a mass influx of botters in OSR, the longer we can enjoy the game.

EDIt: My opinion is a not a unique one. I taste this all over the community. Good!

I think this is completely true. Keeping OSR boy free actually allows you play the game for what it's worth. It's sad to see the game get ruined.

I think for everyone who has come back for it would agree botting should be kept off of it.

2013-03-05 21:20:33

I'll quote myself from another thread here
It may be hypocritical of me to say this, but if the 2007 server is to live then botting as it exists today cannot infect it. Cheating on RuneScape changed completely with the release of Aryan. Before that, most people focused on cheating as just a way to get an edge, a few extra levels while you were at school. Afterwards and since, people bot numerous accounts at once, bot 24/7, farm millions and millions in gold. This ethos really did have an incredibly detrimental effect on RuneScape, it forced Jagex to take drastic measures and take the game in a direction that was necessary to save it but drove so many players - legitimate and cheaters (including myself) - away. In my opinion cheating would have to return to the pre-Aryan days (for the 2007 server, not the main game) where it supplemented your gameplay, instead of replacing it.

With the above in mind I'd say plain training scripts are fine public. Any scripts that can be used for financial gain are members/senior. If the botting situation starts getting above a reasonable (discreet) level then the script writers can push an update that breaks the script. Not in a way that will get people banned, just that it won't work anymore. I'd also suggest not incorporating the multi account support into the oldschool include, I was never a fan of it myself.. people having 'armies' didn't seem right for SCAR, it was too close to the injection bot goldfarming mindset.

As for the include itself I can't believe anyone would actually suggest keeping that private. The entire essence of SRL is that it provided a resource that everyone - veteran or newbie - was welcome to use for the betterment of scripting. Sure, forum registration has been disabled in the past but the include has never been restricted by rank. How many of you can honestly say you'd be here today if when you registered you were told "Sorry, no include and no scripts for you.. if you stick around long enough and make a good impression there is a chance we might let you in"?

Ian

All the gold farming in EOC rs is members only (dragons, grots, ect). $8 a month is nothing compared to the money goldfarmers make per month on each bot.

Same thing goes for OSR, $8/month will be a worthwhile cost for goldfarmers.
