Zaryte Bow or Dual CCBs?

Its something I've been debating, is the zaryte bow better and worth its price, or better to stick to dual chaotic crossbows?
What do you guys think?

I guess it would depend on what you're fighting. I tired using dual Chaotic Crossbows (with Bak. bolts) in both Castle Wars and Soul Wars since the EoC and I really had a lack of damage and accuracy, although the speed was nice. Personally I'd rather have the high hit as opposed to the low damage & speed.

Otherwise, when I used them a while back for a test run on Waterfiends, they worked wonderful.

Lol I'm aware of that, that's where I got the picture from (look at the background text)

Wanted opinions from users on here anyway

Neither. The RCB is better than Zaryte and 2.5% of the price. And Zaryte is better than CCBs atm, that is until they make dual wielding equal to 2Hs.

Why is 2h better than dual wielding for ranged now? duo chaotics attack 3x faster than 2h (though the attack by offhand is weaker), and royal bolt dmg is nearly half of that given by 2h xbow.

The royal cb has a little over 1k damage by default + the additional 750 or so from royal bolts, making it ~2.5x as powerful as dual ccbs. And yes ccbs attack 3x as fast, but speed is only utilized when using auto attacks or momentum. To get the most dps, you would need to spam abilities. While you spam abilities, speed doesn't matter, only the damage and accuracy of the weapon used. So while using abilities with dual ccbs and rcb, the stats would basically be ~760 vs ~1850 damage (they have the same accuracy). And range only has one ability that takes advantage of dual wielding. So that's not really a main reason to switch over.

Also this is coming from a person who used dual ccbs for 2 months after EoC was released and finally decided to try out the rcb (I had also previously used the zaryte). Trust me, it really is that big of a difference.

That's not true, a common misconception actually. When calculating ability damage, a coefficient is created using both the speed and the damage, in order to make the weapons of the same tier have equal DPS. The only thing speed is useful for is when you use your "cooldown autoattack", basically, if you time it right, let your character use an autoattack rather than an ability, to gain maximum damage output. Only effective with low speed weapons really (eg staves).

Now, on topic. In terms of using abilities, you never use dual wielding, unless you have drygores, because you'll just be scamming yourself out of DPS. The reason behind this is that, when calculating ability damage, it only takes into account your mainhand damage. Which is a bit stupid really. Having said that, Jagex have confirmed that they'll be increasing the power of dual wielding so it's on par with 2h, so it might be worth getting the CCBs, saving yourself the cash.

If you're using Momentum, though, they're identical.

Can you please provide a source for that statement?

That is how I use my 2h weapons when I'm waiting for a threshold/ultimate to cooldown. I let it attack normally, then at the same time use an ability (slice/piercing shot/wrack) to do a double-hit. It's a good strategy ;)

I'm aware of that, as why 2H weapons are best when your actually trying to kill something/one as fast as you can (ie: bossing, pvp, hardcore slayer).

Yeah, I can't wait for the dual-wielding update (at which point this thread will become kind of pointless), I have some drygores atm and I would love to see them become undoubtedly better than the chaotic maul (which is still better in some situations). As for CCBs, I'll use them if they become on par with 2Hs. The new quest later this month will introduce new abilities, so maybe there will be more dual-wielding ranged ones. For now though I'm just gonna stick with my trusty RCB.

Dardan actually uploaded a video about this yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb3GT4kT_lQ

If you want to test it, just use a basic bleed ability using weapons of the same tier, but different attack speeds (eg rune mace and rune longsword), you'll see they do identical damage. However, this doesn't apply to certain attacks, such as Frenzy, which bases it on percentage health of the enemy.

I'm too lazy to try the timings, too much effort :p

I mentioned it many times when the EoC was still in beta, yet I wasn't listened too. Now it's 3 and a half months in, still isn't fixed, pretty disgusting from Jagex if you ask me. And yeah, I do love the RCB, so cheap to use as well, and repair :)
