Jagex's new "Invisible" Objects explained

This thread is about this thread. I recommend you read this one as well as the linked PB thread to get an idea of what people were worrying about :)

What was probably happening:

After about 20 tries of clicking on the fishing spot, I managed to have it glitch out and show the animation before I got to the spot. I believe this was what got people worried about Jagex making invisible objects to catch reflection bots.

Although I believe it is 100% possible for Jagex to do this, I don't think this has happened yet.

Possibly, It does happen with minning if you're farily far away from the rock when you click it.

this could possibly be that your lagging… happend 2 me all the time wen my cpu is being flooded by apps and i play runescape note that my laptop isnt fairly new… but wen i mine ess my animation starts and im like 10 feet back…

imns but how would this even pertain to or how did you even get this as a bot detection technique? if i may say lol

There was a thread here about a thread on powerbot where someone suggested that Jagex was using invisible objects to catch injection bots. I think the thread here was moved to higher forums though because someone suggested ways that Jagex could stop Simba or something :p

And my pictures definitely weren't the result of lag on my end at least, 6gb of ram, and this was the only thing running on my pc :)

I've seen this happen many times before any mention of the invisible objects (back in 2007 ect). Normally it's just a graphical glitch with how your player is facing.

Yeah I've seen this happen before, and you're right, this probably explains it. I doubt it's anything to be concerned over, especially for us SRL'ers; we rely on visual detection as would a human. We'd never be at risk here.

Yeah, it's just a glitch where your player will face start animating before facing the right way. It appears Jagex aren't huge fans of threading, can't change direction and animate at the same time.

It wouldn't be that hard for them to implement this, though.

Best we not give them ideas haha, theres thousands of things they could do to reliably catch code bots, but they are either too lazy, or don't want to (could they afford it at the moment?)

As something like this would only affect PB, I'm not too worried, but i do think it's just some animation bug some guy on PB forums had and for some reason everyone got paranoid about it instead of explaining its just a graphics bug
