Phishing sites

Dear forum members,

I urge you not to click on any link that iTHC has posted or sent to you. Several other forum members have reported the links as phishing sites, and one member even lost 70m.

The user has now been banned, and his posts have been removed, but if you find any trace of one or some of his posts, do not click it.

Well, people should use common sense before clicking on a link.

Yeah but on the forum you kinda think it's not going to happen, you know?

Yeah, but common sense is still needed. This game is targeted by so many phishers/hackers/etc and you always have to be careful.

Common sense indeed, if anybody (even a member) sends a link that you don't recognise the Site Name or URL,

(a) Don't click on it / open it till you know / verify what it is,

(b) If something sounds to good to be true, it is, 99.999% of the time,

© If its a link to a runescape clone site, ask yourself why the person sending you the link needs to link you to a site you most likely use daily and close it, if it is a forum post link and wants you to log in, search the quickfind code yourself, or remember you don't need to login to view threads at rs's official site (outside HL section ofc), if you want to post navigate to the thread yourself manually or verify all the services.blahblahblah is 100% accurate before logging in

(d) If possible Bank your gold before you log out and have a bank pin if you are likely to be lazy and just click on everything everywhere, atleast that way you have 3-7 days to go through the recovery process before you lose that much from a hack,

(e) Install good antivirus software and keep it upto date, most also come with phishing detection systems now too (although from experience they are often unreliable or too reliable and cause false positives all the time, but It can't hurt, better to disable it if its causing problems than to not have it at all)

Very true. I normally do that for new members when they post a link. But say it was, you, I'd totally not think twice about it. I guess even in those cases we should STILL be cautious. I will from now on.
