Hello,
First, I'd like to tell a little story about myself. Basically, about how I got interested in coding. After asking NKN if he could make a script for me on sythe, I asked if he was interested in tutoring me. He nicely agreed and was going to do it for free, which was very nice of his part, but I still insisted on paying him 20m per hour. I fail to find the words to describe how valuable this help was in getting me started. In a way, I would compare it to teaching me the alphabet before I try to learn a new language. If I remember correctly, it only took 3 hours for me to start understanding enough to be able to really understand the tutorials and learn from them. In other words, I saved so many hours. I'd like other people to have the same chance I had as I don't think I'd be a SRL member if it wasn't of these tutoring sessions (not that I'm a particularly good scripter, I must add).
I'm saying all this because I'd like to see some tutoring service put in place. It wouldn't necessarily be directed to complete newbies like I was, but to people showing maturity and a work ethic (that, by itself, is a subject to talk about). Actually, I'm sure that there are already plenty of people helping over skypes and that help is invaluable to many people, but it might be helpful to have a more solid and rewarding structure. Even though I'm sure some people would be more than willing to do it for free, I'm ready to pay people that would be interested in tutoring. To be frank, I don't have the time, the knowledge nor the patience to do this kind of helping and I'd see this role as my contribution. I have in mind paying tutors for 10 or 20m per hour depending on the popularity of this idea and the willingless of people to help. If a tutor decides to, this money could be returned to the community in the form of a competition of his choice. The ideas are endless. Of course, the number of paid hours per week would be limited.
The purpose of this thread is basically to launch the idea, discuss of a structure and, hopefully, recruit tutors.
Let me know what you think.
