1. Not too sure if this is the correct section to post this in, but… Its where I would have posted it. (so if its not where it should be, feel free to move it)
What Does it do?
Its basically just 4 timers that you can use for Player Owned Ports.
Idea came from here… (http://www.tip.it/runescape/pages/view/pop_timers.htm)
What makes this better than tip.it's?
You dont have to keep your browser open to check…
When its done, it plays a sound. (yay!)
NEW! IT SENDS YOU AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION!
Can I use this to send a SMS to my phone?
Hell yes you can. Thats actually why I added this. To do that, just seach for your phone provider's sms/text/email gateway/address thing. Or look here… http://www.emailtextmessages.com/
Click the test button to make sure it works. It will also save the address locally so next time you open it, you dont have to type it in again. (whooh!)
Whats this 'Status Updater' thing?
Well, im glad you asked. The status updater is my newest feature and the one im most proud of.
Well what is it?
Its a little thing that when enabled allows you to remotely add, stop and check the status of your timers. Well how does it work? what do I do? Its actually rather simple. Just enter your email address youll use in the email box and then click on the command button to see what you can do and how to use it. Pick a command and email it to TurpPortTimer@gmail.com. then wait like 30 seconds for a response!
Note: This feature has not been tested too hardcore, so if multiple people are all using this at the same time… it might get buggy. lets hope that doest happen.
So you mean something connects to my computer to do this? Is this like a RAT?
Oh lol no. it just connects to a POP3 email server and looks at the messages for matching commands and then executes them. :)
Why would I make something like this?
Well since ports came out, thats all Ive done and I hate having to remember what time my ships come back or just taking the time to login to RS to check the statuses.
What is this coded in?
Visual Basic
Can I edit the code?
Yes, but… just dont go releasing it other places saying you made it and stuff.
And dont go adding a RAT/Keylogger to it then releasing in other places.
This should be about 100 kb alone, so if its alot bigger/smaller, suspect its been packed and extra things have been added (bad things)
How does it work?
1. Type in the time remaining till the ship returns
2. Click Start.
3. ???
4. Profit
Its a pretty straight forward program. Source is included as thats how i believe we are supposed to do it here.
needs .net framework 4 (i think), so if you dont have that… go ahead and download it from microsoft's website
Note On Email: This uses my own gmail account i made just for this. you do not have to enter ANY of your own information. I realize if someone wanted to abuse this by sending lots of emails to someone they could, but im going to hope you dont do that. Every email sent out is deleted. I dont ever plan to login to this email account again. (unless someone tells me its being abused… then ill just shut it down)
Bugs:If you put in non numbers in, it crashes. Fix? DONT PUT NON NUMBERS IN! – This should be fixed now. Made the majority of things into try statements.
Timer isnt completely accurate. ie, one second takes longer with this than it actually is. This is due to the logic on the timer that slows it down. (i had figured the timer tic would be independent of its tic logic, but i guess not. hopefully i can get around this eventually.
Possible crash with the horn. (was playing MOHW and my computer hung when just before the horn went off)
"Privacy" Issues (thats in quotes because they arent really that major, but if youre someone who likes complete privacy, i would suggest not using the email function.
When connecting to the server to send email, it logs in with a predefined Gmail address for ease of access, but when sending the email, your IP address is saved with google along with the sent email address… Hopefully soon ill update this to remove that so everyone feels safe.
– Possible fixes to this.
—– Forcing the user to enter their own smtp info to send mail (not too user friendly)
—– Obfuscating the executable and leaving the smtp information out of the source.
——- This would be the easiest, but then that really defeats the whole purpose of it being 'open source' as something could be easily binded/crypted along with the executable that will be harmful.
—– Using a different send method (probably will use this)
Updated it with a different send method, so it just sends to your email from a phpsend sort of script.
Upcoming Features:
The ability to request status updates completely from your email/phone with commands such as STATUS, ADD, DELETE and… whatever i think of. Im open to suggestions on this.
Status updates? What does that mean? Well its simple, you would email the predefined address (currently TurpPortTimer@gmail.com) with a command such as STATUS and it would email you back with the time remaining on all 4 of your timers. (this is done, im just having problems with sockets not closing properly, so if anyone has any knowledge on this… that would be appreciated.)
Looking for suggestions on this too.
