Was working yesterday, i turned it off last night and it just wont boot again. Used to have a dual boot with Linux ubuntu if that helps. the error i get is..

an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data

\Boot\BCD

0xc000000f

After I set the partition again to active (the 100MB one) it just goes straight through to something called DRMK Version 8.00

i know its not a hardware error as the laptop is only about a year old. tried factory resetting. that option is blocked off from windows repair :S

Thanks in advance

You need to try the following:

Remove all USB devices from the computer. Try to boot and watch what happens. If it boots then you're in luck. Reinstall all USB drivers.

If not, install Easy BCD from a disk and change the drive letter to your Windows 7 Partition. It'll fix the MBR. You can also try Grub4Dos. I don't remember what it does but I remember Grub4Dos was good for something. I think it's backing up. I'm too lazy to google.

You can also try loading up a windows 7 disk.. Then go to repair. Open Command Prompt and type:

DiskPart.exe

When it's done loading DiskPart, type:

ListDisk //to see a list of disks. Select your harddrive using:

Select Disk N //Where N is the disk that C:/ lies on.

List Partition //To list a bunch of partitions on the disk selected.

Select Partition N //Where N is the Partition that contains Windows MBR. Usually C:/

Active //Set the partition Active.

Exit //To exit diskpart.
Exit //To exit Cmd.

Reboot.

Sometimes you have to do it more than once for it to work. I don't know why but when I had a hackintosh, I had to do it twice. I used Chameleon BootLoader atm I think.. Man.. I remember the Kernel Panics ;)

Good Luck. Else you might find yourself re-installing windows. You can always backup the files on the linux partition and reinstall 7.

It's a bootloader so be careful. You can mess the system up (even though you can repair the mess ups) so make sure you learn how to use it or at least glimpse at the instructions. Don't wanna mess up the Linux Partition.

Yeah :l I had a hackintosh and I used to have to type that out so much (Especially when I got a Kernel Panic). Also was member of MDL and I got my A+ certificate last year.
