So maybe you have read it or maybe but but runescape is going to HTML5 next year. How do you feel about this? Do you feel it would effect Simba?

Oh and Happy Holidays :D

It would but for like a month, then everything will be fine.

Wouldent it only affect smart and the colors in scripts?

I hope they make this game playable on mobile devices or something, because if not its going to be left behind and die

And if they make seperate worlds and servers that dont connect to the live game for that, then they may aswell just have dug their own grave and jumped in

^This, and we will probably see an influx of bot refugees once again.

From the pictures I've seen it looks like a nice graphical update; very crisp graphics. :) Whether the colors are blended more or not, colors still remain so it won't stop anything Simba-related. I just hope it can do something against all these Java bots…

In either case I welcome the update.

HTML5 makes OpenGL hacking easier than java :(

According to their most recent news posted they plan on making Runescape for tablets a well:
From: Jagex

2013 is the year that will allow you to play a faster, high-fidelity, pure HTML5-powered RuneScape -the first MMO to ever do so! Not only on your PC or Mac, either - 2013 will see your favourite game extend to your favorite tablet - train journeys, car journeys or simply waiting for the bus are all about to get a whole load more exciting! Also, for those with smart phones, we have some cool upcoming apps in store for you too.

The Ipad doesent support HTML5 OpenGL 3D rendering currently, gg 80% of the market

So unless they can get permission from apple and make an app?

I don't know about there, but in this part of the world the majority of the people use Android tablets, which do indeed support OpenGL. Tough luck for the people still using iPads. :/

Really? Apple still have majority sales according to the figures? Maybe fans buy more than 5 Ipads each now

Actually I think it will make bots more powerful as the client would be written in javascript which isn't compiled just like simba scripts. Of course they can obfuscate but it will still be easier than java bytecode i think.

Hopefully it will make runescape more popular though.

the html5/javascript will just be a "window" to their server side which is still java, so more than likely we'll just have to use simba as we already do, it probably won't change much.. other than any type of graphics changes (which we've been through many times)

and then smart it sounds like would have to change quite a bit, I had the idea a while ago I posted, though I honestly have no idea.. but we could just use firefox's open source to have all the html5/javascript knowledge, and then make the fancy mouse capturing stuff smart has.. etc etc

that being said, openGL will still exist, I assume they'll have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebGL which will allow all tablets (apple included?) to have their video acceleration, though.. it really isn't light weight, runescapes going to be requiring quite a bit more resources than it does now

Yeah I didn't mean the graphics would change but I think it will make hacking the client easier because you could actually see the source code.

I read somewhere that Apple don't support 3D WebGL rendering yet, was a while ago tho, and I have no idea how all that works,

Can they make an IOS store app that would play it regardless?

that part was just my continuation of rant based off of other posts in this thread hehehe

the html5 and javascript will be the clientside part, we still won't be able to see their server side, but yea the graphics will most likely change quite a bit, but only in slight spots (where it would break the include, but not seem too different from humans)

if webgl is done well, it's much more smooth than their java currently is.. though, they can do however bad job they want, its their game afterall

should be able to, all the app would have to be is a web browser that only does their game, right?

I'm not sure how it would work on an app though, it would mean that the whole concept of playing runescapenwould change?

With this HTML5 update will we see a more streamlined game or is it as only good as Jagex wants to make it? Meaning that would it be a halfarsed attempt?

Yea I don't know, it has potential to be anything and work on anything, unlike the java did.. because everything has browsers these days.. so we'll see how good they do it

oh, damn we were way off from each other

I was just talking about browsers lol, all jagex would have to do for apple products is slap their app on there that has like some other mobile browser stripped down that only loads the rs game rofl

They could still just obfuscate the crap out of it.

Would apple allow that? They've messed with Google's chrome before (Google's implementation of a browser)…

grats

2013-02-12 15:01:30

why not? if jagex stripped it down to only embed their game, and not be able to navigate anywhere else.. I don't see how apple would get butthurt about that, since it doesn't "overtake" safari
