Are there any reasonable gentoo (minimalistic preferred) guides?

I just followed a half hour YT one, which took a couple hours to try to get items to match the same… but I got to the grub login and my password didn't work (typed it in exactly as the passwd for root I setup earlier -.-)

Any who, interested in getting it to work, but any suggestions would be great as I've given up for the night..

P.S. first time using this linux

Cheers,
Lj

edit: gento used:
install-x86-minimal-20121213
(should I do different?)

edit2: advice to get the dang grub password (simple instructions from the purple/pink startup screen) would be great

if this is your first linux distro, then try something like xubuntu or lubuntu(both light weight). once you get used to it you can then start customising and going minimalistic
