Is reflection ever going to be up again? I went inactive for a year.
color scripts work good enough for me anyway.

Cant remember, after a bot nuke like a year ago, i believe jagex made reflection of their code illegal somehow due to copyright?

So reflection is unlikely to ever be publicly up again

But i hear brandons OGL Hook is almost the same thing? (maybe we will see soon)

If reflection is illegal, why can still powerbot release their bot client to public ?

Perhaps the fact that Jagex are pursuing Epicbot and Powerbot means that it is illegal

Their client is injection not reflection

It's almost the same thing, reading game data by hooking it ect.

@OP: Reflection won't be coming back to SRL.

Almost, but different enough that something means it wont hold up in court?

I have no idea how the different hooking techniques work,

Color ftw :)

I'm sure Jagex have something in their ToS that will protect them from both reflection and injection

I'd say so, but theres gota be a reason they cant stop injection as easily as reflection,

Could it be that powerban is hosted in china or something and is protected by different laws?

Just out of interest, whys SRL never used injection?

I remember that in a post that told about history of botting, srl had used injection before the bot nuke. After bot nuke, the injection client need to be maintained frequently, so since the SRL isn't profitable organization, it can't get some people to deal with it right after the client code been modified.

These aren't true. Injection of code into any software is not illegal at all in the US or Canada. What is illegal is copying code that isn't yours for the same purpose. This means that if you're copying the code to use differently from the game, then you can only copy a portion as it's protected under fair-use and that allows innovation using that code.

Reflection isn't illegal either. Most are blocked by a company's Eula but is usually overruled by fair-use. Jagex's TOS has "only to the extent allowed by law". Powerbot and Epic bot must be doing something else :S

SRL had reflection before and it certainly wasn't illegal and still isn't.. Right now, Tribot uses injection too. Decompile Tribot.jar and you'll see the code behind it. It uses this: http://asm.ow2.org/ and some EGW class implementation.

It's kinda like how Apple says it's illegal to have OSX on anything but apple products. Pfft.. They cannot stop someone from having a hackintosh.

Jailbreaks inject code into IOS but it's legal. The reason why the jailbreaks take so long is because the developers cannot use Apple's code to their advantage at all (they can only use the holes in apple's code). They must write all jailbreak code from scratch every release. Of course they can re-use their own code though. But they cannot use any of Apple's for destructive use such as breaking into IOS.

These are all completely different things:

Reflection
Injection
Detouring/Code-Caving.

Are you still doing stuff with OpenGL hooks and such brandon? Read your threads, but i really cant understand it too well due to my limited experience in such advanced level programming :)

I use Detouring and Code-wrapping.

Brief summary:

Lets say you have candy but I'm not your friend. I need some of that candy. What I do is ask a mutual friend to get it for me. Well that's what detouring and code-wrapping is. It's a middle man.

I wrap all my code in a DLL. I wrap all the necessary OpenGL functions for OpenGL to run (the exact same as the one in your System32 folder). Then when exporting them, I make the OpenGL functions call mine first. When mine is finished running, it lets the original ones run.

The middle man is this:

My OpenGL loads the System32 one. Jagex calls an OpenGL function. That function calls mine which then calls the System32 one. Jagex wants candy from OpenGL so they ask their friend System32 who asks me.

Essentially, inorder for jagex to get to System32, they have to go through me first (the middle man). I never touch their code but rather they touch mine ;)

^ Way to smart, @dannyrs, the main difference I think between reflection/injection and ogl is that you cant get mainscreen tiles.. you cant get tile walking (but close enough) and animations and detecting objects off mainscreen… but the best thing about ogl is that hooks wont go down every update :)

DannyRS

Sounds very complicated :)

Thanks for explaining it so well to a noob :P

How far along with the project are you? I saw something about you and ben putting openGL in the next smart release?

Are we likely to be using your OpenGL stuff over color sometime? :D

So its more likely to be used as an inventory IDer or something like that?

Inv… mainscreen…. minimap items… (flag, mm dots etc)…. walking system can be introduced.. if there's anymore you will have to ask Brandon.

Would the walking be similar to ODTM walking or would it be more accurate?
