DannyRS - SRL Member Application

Edit - I'm trying to make the scripts as easy to read / access as i can, but length issues are fighting back :(

How Long have You Played Runescape?
10 Year(s)

Are you affilated in anyway with Jagex LTD?
No

Were you Referred to SRL?
No :( Would of been great to find it sooner, but there we go,

What is your general programming knowledge?
C#, Java, C++, HTML, Pascal Now?

Are you a member of any other communities?
Not Really,

50ish PC on Sythe,
lurked on RsBot i guess

I'm somewhat active on Reddit

WoW - guild raiding on and off, and some PvP

RS - used to be in a clan, but all my friends outgrew the game and started quitting and so i played less and less

Tell us about yourself…
Removed as Closed and Was Messy ;)

Please show us one (or multiple) of your scripts.
Removed as Closed and Was Messy ;)

End Note
i know there is a lot of unused variables, maybe un-used functions in most scripts, because of the mix and match happening as i was working on so many different thinks at once, versions from now on will be better commented and cleaner :)

If any links redirect to incorrect places, the script can probably be found under the respective sub heading on scripts forum

There will probably be scripts missing from the list, as i missed them or they are bad and i dont really want them considered in an application

Edit - UPDATE - Cant edit OP, but i got ATPA's down, e.g. for edge smither

Ah so i can see the thread :) awesome, sorry for the wall of text, skip it if you want, I'm not a good story teller and it's very late here, and when the teacher asks you to tell us about yourself, i run away :), oh i forgot that in the post - I'm quite shy IRL :)

Edit - theres no question of why you want members when you apply, but i guess its quite important, or would be to me if i was reading an application for something:

I really want to be a full part of the community, and I'm not sure, something just doesn't feel right being green when you guys are all yellow :(, also i like to help people, and people looking for help have more faith in members? i don't know how to describe that, but I'm sure you know what i mean, also the little perks are great, such as a sig :)

Also you've only been here about a month, a little to green in my book.

Thanks for taking the time to vote and have a look :)

There's a lot of ways you could impress me actually. Just take a different approach to things than everyone else.

Take TPA's, for example, they're one of the most common piece of code on this site. Everyone basically uses a cookie cut function with tweaks here or there. If you did a TPA function that was completely off the cuff and still worked efficiently, if not better, I'd be very happy to see.

No matter how many times I see a piece of code, making it yours is what matters.

P1ng

2012-12-13 00:56:15

Unfortunately(or maybe fortunately..) for you I will be basing your application on your first script posted as it was the only one you said had TPA use and that is pretty necessary as far as I am concerned.

I've got a list of pro's and con's based on your script -

Pro's:
Use of custom mouse functions. As Jagex (attempt) to increase their focus on ridding us from their game it is always nice to see people who are trying to stay a step ahead. I like seeing these custom mouse functions around now because it means you care about blending in. A strong value of Villavu.

Crediting! While it doesn't happen as often as you'd hope, this is really good to see that where you borrowed code/ideas you were honest and informed us of how you got that piece of code.

Case statements are nice to see, they demonstrate a (slightly) greater ability than others who apply and use long if..thens.

Custom functions are a plus for me, they demonstrate that you don't simply bang procedure after procedure into your script relying entirely on the include. As you can see below in my post, this can sometimes be a bit of a double-edged sword when over used.

I like your use of basic DTMs and the fact that you free them using AddOnTerminate.

Con's:
Un-necessary functions for banking/logging out etc. While I do like that you have written some custom functions of your own, this application is largely about how well you are able to use the include. If you hard-code everything yourself not only does it make things rather long, it also doesn't demonstrate your knowledge/ability as well.

Un-used functions/variables. While I understand these scripts were written previously and you may have advanced since then, I like to not see un-used variables/functions. Your application should demonstrate that you have pride in what you have submitted and that you tried your hardest. Often people will write a completely new script just for the occasion.

Un-necessary begin..ends. Alot of the time after an if..then statement you use a begin..end. Now this is something I only learned through my member's application and so I see it only fitting that I pass this information onto you.

if an if..then statement's result only pertains to the very next line there is no need for a begin and end. This also applies to an else. For example:
procedure IfThenElse;
var
Something: Boolean;
begin
if Something then
DoThis;

if Something then
begin
DoThis;
AndThis;
end;

if Something then
DoThis else
DoSomethingElse;

if Something then
DoThis else
begin
DoSomethingElse;
AndThisOtherThing;
end;
end;

You are quite an active and helpful member of the community and you are most certainly on the right track!

While I don't think you are member's material just yet, you aren't far off. If you look into TPAs a bit more and write a new script with a bit more focus on the include and more advanced techniques you will be accepted no problem.

Flight

There's a lot of content here and it's obvious you've put a lot of time into these. You're definitely active and you've helped people out here and there; a big plus for me.

My advice is do some experimenting with some more complicated procedures. Perhaps a simple script with a complex way of doing things :p And this I cannot stress enough: move away from the DTMs.

Anywho,

Nice voting etiquette P1ng! :)

Agreeing with most of what P1ng referred to, I'd also pitch in;
- more include use (examples = instead of static coords for x1, y1, x2, y2; try using MSX1 + difference, etc. as this can cut down on needing to update your script in the future)
- TPA's, you are very close to using them, (advice: I'd try referencing the function list in simba, finding > TPA, and match method names that seem pertinent to functionality you'd expect from your script and learn/proceed from there)

Other than that, I think you are very promising and compliment you on enthusiasm.

Cheers,
Lj

P.S. Before I end, ffr try out some obj making :)

Flight - I was using DTM's alot becuase they were easy to understand and implement :) now i understand how TPA detection works, i wont be using them as much, correct me if i'm wrong, but they are still a really good inventory check? cant see a better way to achieve an item check in bank or inventory,

Trying new TPA stuff and experimenting constantly :) hopefully more efficient, faster, more advanced stuff to come in the future :)

Indeed P1NG's post is outstanding and he took the time to write it, so its only fair i reply to everyones great posts and feedback?

custom functions and credits - Something i really try to focus on is the anti ban, getting high stats is no good if you dont last with them, so i could use the basic includes for the mouse, just to save some lines of code, but as flight and ben have taken the time to make something better, why not make full use of it, sure i could have a go at writing my own, but i dont see the point when theres better perfect one that i'm allowed to use, i'm not a fan of trying to pass someones work off as my own, so i will always credit because its due to the person who made such as awesome function that its worth using

Includes - i'm trying to use them more and more now that i know about alot of them, but when learning, i prefer not to rely solely on them, because if i dont understand what a function does fully, or what its looking for, then if it breaks, i cant fix it,

Un-used vars, Un-necessary begin/ends, if then - As for the vars, when quickly working to achieve a goal, its easier to just leave them in functions so if i did need to call them, i dont have to add them, i had always planned to remove them, but as all this is "work in progress", i just havent got around to it yet, future work will have more time and care as to presentation :)
As for the begin / ends, this is largely just habbit, because of my C# visual studio background, i would always open and close the {} before writing a statement, I'm trying to break the habbit and try to think if i will need more than the one line, but IMO this is quite a minor thing and doesent really affect anything, i also notice you seem to have to use them if you are going to have an "else" anywhere after a statement.

Thanks for writing those good examples, i will try to follow a stricter routine when writing the statements from now on :)

I'm also really working and practicing on the TPA useage, hopefully only going to get better from here :)

to Jingles reply - indeed p1ng made some brilliant suggestions, the static x1 y1 etc, honestly as i memorize the include values for MS MI MM and such, i personally feel that if the RS screen changed, i'd rather fix static than re-do the math for -+ amounts to includes that are subject to change, if it changes, either way its going to break a function, and i believe it would be much faster to just adjust the number than to go lookup what the includes give again?

Yes from me, scripts are fine, activity is high :)

Glad to see atleast a few people appreciate the effort <3, i know some stuff was written a while ago, and is therefore missing my latest knowledge, but i'm here to learn and improve my skills, and i hope i am achieving that :)

i very much want to remain as active as i can, and more importantly contribute everything i can back to such an awesome community, another reason I want to get member, is things such as competitions and events, that at the moment i am unable to take part in, although it looks like we havent had one that recently? maybe someone should host one :)

Thanks to everyone who is taking the time to look and vote! :) constructive feedback always appreciated

I like the long intro about urself, reading about the person applying is never wrong.
I know you have been active in the community and thats very good.
I see that you got a nice collection of scripts wich is nice but I would like to see a script with some kind of AIO if its not very advanced with TPA functions and DTM's as backup etc, holding my vote for now.

EDIT: I like DTM's alot too, back in the early days I had a runecrafter that used only DTM's for object finding :)

DTM's are so easy to setup and find with the includes, so its an awesome way to start out scripting, unfortunately theres alot of things they just wont cut it in lol, I'm going to attempt to perfect my abyssal runescrafter mage detection with ATPA sorting, seems like a good challenge because of the way jagex seem to love shifting his colors madly, thanks for taking a look :)

not really sure anymore, could go either way at this point by the looks of things, would be nice to not have to apply again, but if i do I'll just have to submit a fresh script in the future, either way i'm going to continue to work on RS stuff :P

i had the intention of being an all round applicant, not just for the "amazingly advanced" programming stuff, but also helping out the community in any way possible :)

Ok Danny let me throw a problem your way: let's say a player had the same color clothes as a banker; how would you differentiate between them? I'll give you a hint, go beyond the single color you're using for their clothes, look for multiple colors within a small distance of each other, like their hair/skin color/clothes. Show me how you would do that. ;)

I was considering the same thing :), will spend tomorrow trying to solve, and post results, (i guess i'll need to recreate a situation in paint, as i cant really get someone to stand there, and i'm pretty sure that shade of purple is unique in this case) the split functions already great with its expected X Y of it, been having loads of fun with this :)

I didn't. About a week ago after looking through numerous projects of yours I typed a PM to tell you to apply for members. I never sent it. So when I saw your name in the apps I came to vote.

I only vote on members that have caught my eye in the forums and are pretty decent scripters(that I believe are learning new things). Activity is big, keep that up :)

I request that my vote be changed also. It is evident that you are a quick learner, motivated and capable of using TPAs. It is now(when a mod+ changes it) a yes from me.

Yes as you gave me a lot of info about yourself, and you seem to do good with the basics (which can make quite a few scripts) and your attitude has been positive as far as I can tell.
