As of today's update, you can hop worlds in game (while you are logged into another world) in a easier way.
Go to your friends list, right click a friend who is online, and click to hop to their world.
No more logging into the lobby and the choosing a world manually on where your friend is anymore. I guess it's a handy function

I don't believe so. I can't access the game right now, but a jmod made a post on a thread and users said its immediate and no need to go in lobby anymore.

I don't think so, can't confirm atm since I am at a pc which doesn't run java. Could be possible but I just don't see that happening.
