Setting up SMART8 Tutorial

DrChill

2012-12-08 18:31:13

I didn't see any other tutorial, and a few people seem to be confused about how to setup SMART8, so here's a basic tutorial.

Why update/what does this fix? See this thread: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87801

Video Guide By YoHoJo Here:
http://youtu.be/IqukGefbw48
YoHoJo needs teh money, watch the video:hypocrite:

1.) Download SMART8
Download is here: https://github.com/downloads/BenLand100/SMART/SMARTv8.0.zip
8.1 is available here (should be the same install):
https://github.com/downloads/BenLand100/SMART/SMARTv8.1.zip

2.) Install SMART8
Extract everything (preferably into a new folder), then select all the files and copy them into your Simba plugins folder, if it asks you to to overwrite anything choose "yes".

Extract All …

Copy Everything …

My Simba folder is in C:\Simba, so my plugins folder would be in C:\Simba\Plugins

Paste into Plugins folder …

Make sure you click "Yes to All"

3.) Using SMART8
Every script you have will now need to be updated to use SMART8, at the top of the script where it reads:

{$DEFINE SMART}

Change it to:

{$DEFINE SMART8}

4.) Run a Test Script

The following script should help you to test if you have everything set up properly. If you try another script and you get errors, the problem is with the other script itself.

program TestScript;
{$DEFINE SMART8} //Using SMART8 Instead of SMART is very important
{$I SRL/SRL.Simba}

procedure DeclarePlayers;
begin
HowManyPlayers := 1;
NumberOfPlayers(HowManyPlayers);
CurrentPlayer := 0;

with Players[0] do
begin
Name := ''; // Player username
Pass := ''; // Player password
Active := True;
end;
end;

procedure SetupSmartClient;
begin
SRL_SixHourFix := True;
SMART_FixSpeed := True;

ClearDebug;
SetupSRL;
ActivateClient;
DeclarePlayers;
LoginPlayer;
end;

begin
SetupSmartClient;

WriteLn('Finished, exiting ...');
end.

Common Errors
Invalid number of parameters at line 273

Make sure you follow step 3.

Enjoy :)

no more fiddling with smartparams if you use {$DEFINE SMART8}, right?

On the other hand, nice little tut man, should be helpful to deal with this common issue for the distracted ones.

I've tried this, but SMART still says 7.2… is there something I'm doing wrong? It definitely overwrites all the plugins and everything.

So after I updated to SMART8, copied and overwrote the files needed in plugins folder, and changed the script. I ran a script, it opens SMART, and then it does nothing. Is there something else I have to do?

The script does nothing or SMART does nothing? If It's the script, then it's something wrong with the script. Did the script work before for you? Are you sure you have the correct graphical settings?

If it's a smartparams error, it's dealing with smart.

But for what you posted, it isn't related to SMART, it just says an Out of range error. If it was smart params it would mention smart params.

Posted a test script, to see if there's any errors with your setup try running it. If you enter login info it will login too.

If the test script runs perfectly, congrats, you just installed SMART8 :)

The script opens up smart. Then smart does nothing. I have everything set to lowest setting and brightness all the way up. I've read around on the forums about java.exe having to be set in the simba path or something like that. I don't know how to do that? I'm running windows 7 32 bit (x86). before smart8 my scripts used to work haha. I've also read about people down grading java to 6u33? I don't know if that's required or if it helps make things run smoother. I running on Java 7 so if that's the problem I could downgrade but I'd need a link to it, or a step by step how to down grade. xD

Did you enter account details? Try my test script above, and make sure you change the info in the DeclarePlayers function.

@mrisperfect
Does this error come from the test script I posted?

Firestar2293

2012-12-13 20:45:47

I entered my account details in the script. Smart still sits there doing nothing at the login screen? then when I stop the script because it wasn't doing anything, it says successfully executed. I let it run for at least 5 minutes with smart open and nothing happened.

DrChill

2012-12-13 20:54:25

@Firestar
Does the test script work (I updated my original post, step 4) … the only thing I can think of is graphics settings, but if you already checked those it should be fine.

It should start working on launch. Make sure you run test script, the problem may be with the script you're running.

Firestar2293

2012-12-13 21:05:49

@DrChill
I was talking about your test script. xD I think I figured it out. I went to update my SRL it had an update, then had an error. So I overwrote it restarted simba. Now I get [Error] C:\Simba\Includes\SRL/SRL/misc/SmartParams.Simba(274:149): Invalid number of parameters at line 273
Compiling failed.
[Error] C:\Simba\Includes\SRL\SRL\misc\SmartParams.Simba(70:8): Unknown identifier 'RSReady' at line 69
Compiling failed.
That's with your test script? which already has it changed to the {$DEFINE SMART8}

DrChill

2012-12-13 21:12:30

I must admit I'm kinda confused …

Try taking out the 8 in {$DEFINE SMART8} … it almost looks like it overwrote SMART8?

Firestar2293

2012-12-13 21:35:13

Ok. I took out the 8. It opened SMART as 7.2. xD I don't get how updating SRL put me back down to 7.2. I redownloaded SMART8 then put the 8 back in the test script. it opens up SMART but it's still sitting there. :( I even checked the graphics again to make sure. I'm so confused. I know the test script is supposed to at the very least login for me right? and this message is in the debug box.

So Ive made attempts to upgrade to 8 on multiple computer but still have failed.
As per BenLand's SMART8 download post, i have added java to my path. (running 'java -version' returns version info)
and… ive copied the files and overwritten.
Running Simba as Admin.
On running the 'test script', a command window opens up for a moment. Simba's debug says…
SRL Compiled in 16 msec
** Smart Cannot Spawn Clients **
Successfully executed.
image of cmd window here —> http://i.imgur.com/ANwfI.png
The cmd window states "Error: Could not find or load main class Files"

My simba installation is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Simba Rather than C:\Simba, might this be the cause?
So. suggestions? Im probably overlooking something very very simple, but eh.

I know this thread is already saturated with different errors but in the vain hope that mine is in some way different here is mine:
I have followed all the tutorials (twice since it was suggested I start over) and Simba works perfectly for me when using a browser.
While running the test script in the OP's post SMART8 and the java cmd window open. I left it and smart did nothing. In Simba the output says:
SRL Compiled in 0 msec

'One minute has passed… Debug: 0'
***My Username***
'One minute has passed… Debug: 0'
**** My Username***

This continues indefinitely with SMART8 remaining on the welcome to runescape screen (the screen where I pick new user or existing user).
Edit: haha forgot to blank out my username once and new output from the test script:
NextPlayer(False)
SwitchToPlayer(PlayerNo: 0, Active: False);
Player is not Active…
All players not active!
Finished, exiting …

All right. I have tried every solution and very carefully examined the info available to the extend of my intermediate knowledge of simba. I carefully followed all the instructions for installing both Simba which I have had for ages and smart 8.
1. I made sure all my simba extensions were up to date.
2. I uninstalled java update 7. Not the whole thing.
3. I restarted my pc multiple times.
4. Made sure Simba was allowed past my firewall.
5. I removed the -1 one at the end of the line of code 296 of SmartParams.simba. Only to put it back because it cause no effect. I made sure to save the file and restaurant simba between these changes.
291  If (  {$IFDEF SMART8}
292 Result := SmartSpawnClient(ReplaceWrap(PluginPath, '\', '/', [rfReplaceAll]), Params[0], ',' + Params[1], 765, 503, 's', '', '');

Should I learn how to manually compile smart or would that be unlikely to solve this problem?

I took the time to present my case in the most understandable, concise, and readable way I could. I would appreciate an intelligible response :). I am no quite practiced and knowledgeable when it comes to pcs and can sift my way through technical garble. Im not an 7 yr old that has no clue what he is doing and an immature response would make you seem pitiful. Trying to stay pleasant but Im quite exasperated…..

I'm actually surprized they haven't added Smart8 by default yet.

Make sure you have Java 7 installed

I've done everything, but the {$DEFINE SMART8}, but it keeps getting errors!

Getting the same thing, tried using 8.2 and 8.3.

[Error] C:\Simba\Includes\SRL/SRL/misc/SmartParams.Simba(281:149): Invalid number of parameters at line 280
Compiling failed.

Have defined using Smart8 too obviously, rather frustrating.

Read the release thread.

Notable Changes
  • SmartSpawnClient now takes an extra argument appended to the front of the argument list that specifies the executable used to launch Java. It will search your system's PATH and current directory when given a relative path, or take an absolute path. This is important for windows environments particularly since java.exe will not properly run OpenGL on some systems, but works fine with launched with javaw.exe
  • function SmartSpawnClient(java_exec, remote_path, root, params: string; width, height: integer; initseq, useragent, javaargs, Plugins: string): integer;

Are you installing the newest software (simba 1.x, smart 8.3, stl6)? In that case there is no more scripts in the srl folder. The new name is srl-6

The guide has a tiny sample script to help you ensure it's all working.

If you're installing older stuff please disregard.
