For those that weren't aware of this,
You can 'tag' ( * ) monsters in the game, to be yours.
What this means is you can:
- hit any monster (that hasn't been hit before and tag it with an * so its yours)
- do any amount of damage/no amount of damage
- then move on to another and repeat
If another player attacks one of your tagged monsters, THEY go through the whole process of killing it, but YOU get all of the experience upon its death, and you get its drops.
If a monster has an asterisk ( * ) in front of its name, it means it has been tagged by another player, and its pointless for you to attack it.
Before EOC, if you attacked a monster that had less than half health, you'd get the experience for killing it the rest of the way. The drops would show up first for the player who had previously done most of the damage, then show up for you if the drops went unclaimed. This was fair.
Now, in busier areas, some players can find the only monsters available have been tagged, which means all of their fighting is giving zero experience, and zero drops if they go unclaimed.
Note: If you are doing Slayer and kill a tagged monster, you do get the Slayer experience, but that's it.

This sucks :/ basically crowded areas are ganna suck :/
I know, it was really unfair.
I was doing a task of dagganoths with my cannon and afk'ed for a little bit.. All of a sudden, I see a guy come out of no where and say "thanks for the drops bro :)"
I look around, and see that there were no drops on the ground at all.. He had marked all the dagganoths as his :/

They should only allow you to have one mobbed tagged at once… I can see the way you say it is currently as being HIGHLY abused….especially by botters against legit players and other botters.
Yup, you can simply attack one monster, get that tagged, move to a second, get that tagged and so forth.
He was using a cannon too, so his cballs got to the dagganoths before mine did, thus he got most the xp and drops. I only got a bit of slayer xp.

This sucks!!!! one at a time wouldn't be too bad…
Yeah Im hoping they tweak this/fix it
Is the tagging permanent or it's gone when you log out / leave the area?
Is there anywhere infested with bots that you can abuse this for super fast xp/loot?
Blue Dragons? Since Blue D Hide is now F2P, theres still a lot of people there
Once the NPC is killed does that then un-tag it?

oh this is awesome lol. can u tag bosses?

Yes, once the npc is killed, the tag goes away. A new one will respawn, which is up for anyone to tag, first come, first served basis.
@Deja, yes, this works with bosses. You can attack nex, leave her lair, and let another player kill it, and you get the loot + xp.

I tried to tag a bunch of black demons but some of the bots stopped fighting them after I tagged them.

Oh, maybe they look for the asterisk before they attack them then

Why will Jagex introduce such stupid rule into game, normal player will not be able to find out whether the monster is tagged or not before moving the mouse over. While the injection bot can notice such thing easily.

But human or color bot will need to see the uptext or even right click the monster to find out the asterisk mark. So the injection bot can easily react faster than human, and making the major amount of monster been tagged by bot.

This really doesn't sound fair. I agree with freezeyp, injection bots will be much faster at this and then even colour bots will be faster than most humans.
Suppose it will work well for some and totally screw over others.
Surely this will be tweaked in an update to make it fairer for everyone.
Thanks for this info!
I barely have anytime to even play RS so cheers for summarizing what i need to know

Bots think they are already in fight and they dont attack
I thought the scripts were now adjusted to the tagging system, where they skip those monsters that are marked

You should definietly put that one to you igno list after eoc as if you dont hit a monster and let it kill by the cannon completely you wont get any exp. It is one of the slowest tasks nowadays as you can“t even afk.
