Is Racism Alive in the US Today?

I'm doing a paper on racism, apartheid, segregation, bigotry, etc. I keep coming up with all these great ideas and they all sound good to me- but I need some fresh meat. Anybody wanna give their opinion? So far my thesis statement is:
Some may say that apartheid is dead and gone since the civil rights movement; others may argue that it is alive and well in the US today. I believe it is still alive in the world. To prove this I have these:Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Shaima Alawadi, deliberate violations of the Civil Rights Movement

Past that I don't have a lot more points… so some help would be greatly appreciated.

I watched the show "Lie to me" and the way they detected racism is that they showed a picture of a person and the people being tested pushed a button either yes or no based on whether or not they respect them. The "racists" would consistently push yes for respect on non-Caucasian pictures significantly slower than on a pic of a caucasian.
Anyways maybe someone has done an actual study like that? that would be an easy section of your paper :)

IMO, more so because of the laws against racism. There are so many laws in place to 'prevent' racism, that it makes it nearly impossible to not think of race. Companies, as well as universities have to have so many Latinos, and African Americans, etc. in order to not be harassed by the federal government about being racist, which in turn does nothing other than promote racism.

No matter what laws are placed, there will always be racism. It's human nature to see differences. But the more educated a society is about equality, the easier they accept those different. I once saw a child in a mall call a black man a "chocolate man". He probably said that because he's still young and ignorant, but he will learn. But yeah, education and exposure have to do with it. America is very diverse in culture, so I think there is less racism now than before.

A a Mexican tourist, with family over the states I can tell there is still racist. For example when a person insults a black folk the will say something like: ***black **** instead of just saying the insult. Why do people need to remind the ethic precedence of a person or use it a an insult?
Many use discriminative terms such as wetbacks or nigers.
Racism is a fact. Not only from the US but mostly from the persons without culture and educationb (never generalizing). But Racism is marked in the US because it is a multiethnical nation.

segregation is also a fact. In schools you can see groups of people: Mexicans, LAtins, Asians, and many other such as Gothics, skaters, etc. This is because you choose to be with the people you have things in common but this also gives a path to segregation.

But remember im not an expert i just live there 3 months and have family. This is the things I saw from the eyes of a foreigner. Im not trying to critize culture or anything.

hope this helps

I agree with Eduardo. There will always be bigots, segregation and racism. It's a fact of life. Those who are better educated will have the time of day to get to know people on an individual basis before making a judgement about them, but there are many others who don't have that level of education or positive exposure to other cultures.
