Applied with a resume more tailored to business related jobs, got this back:

Hello Aakash,

Thanks for *your resume. You only mention in passing your experience with computers. That is the main part of this job. Please elaborate.

Mike

Been using computers since very young so I know windows OS like the back of my hand along with all the cool general tips and tricks that come along with being around technology.
Built own computer last year, helped 2 friends build theirs
I'm the go to guy for all my friends who need tech help etc.

I know only I know the exact knowledge that I have but just help out with good things I should include in the response in order to out me in a good position to potentially get the position.

Thanks so much for the help, I can answer questions and elaborate in a few hours!

X years, Programming knowledge in Pascal Script (pascal interpreter)

Could list the computer building part to something more "exclusive," like, several experiences building computers - knows parts / components that are essential to computer building.

Any studied courses on computing??
PC - Network Experience
Communications classes

Previous jobs / volunteer work might help show reliability.

Just some thoughts,
Cheers and good luck,
Lj!

If you took any computer related classes in university you could put those. Also any programming languages. Get references from people. Teachers at university, past employers, basically anyone who can vouch for you on a professional level. You should ask your reference to send their recommendation straight to your prospective employer, not through you. These recommendations should show that you're reliable, ect. I hope that helps, and good luck! :)

Thanks you two, very helpful responses.
Any additional help would be appreciated, going to reply to the email later tonight (3 hours from now).

Any Networking courses, number of years for them?
Same for Computer hardware?

Any experience with Macintosh, or Linux?
Have you managed networks before? Where?

Edit: Damn, lost connection, so didn't see theirs^^^ From mine, just the last two then.

Mention which OS's you are best with, and which you are competent with. Mention how long you have used computers, mention programming experience, and mention how you have always wanted to work with computers because you enjoy working with them.

Just some thoughts from a 15 YO who's never had a salaried job. :p

I've only taken one computer related course which mostly went over all the hardware and how it works. I'm a Managerial Economics major do not many computers classes under my belt. However I am very comfortable with computers just by being around and on them all the time as I'm sure many of you are too :-).

Also what do you think he/the description means exactly by 'networking' can someone explain what that would entail?

What's a good way to explain that I'm good with software/windows in general just because I've dicked around computers for so many years?

I found something that might help with the definition of networking: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/itinformationtechnology/l/aa032601a.htm
and for explaining your experience with computers you should definitely mention that you have experience building computers, because it seems like they want someone who would know what to do if there was a problem.

Good luck, hope you get the position!

Hello Mr. May,

Thank you very much for taking the time to look over my resume and considering me for the position.

An elaboration of my experience with computers:
¤Familiarity with PC hardware, assembly, and repair.
-I built my first PC in January 2011 and since then have helped 3 friends pick parts for and build their own PCs, as well as replace and upgrade parts from my own PCs and theirs.

¤ Intermediate experience with Pascal Script programming.
-Self taught with 5+ years of experience.
-Created text as well as video tutorials for Pascal beginners which have received thousands of views.

¤Strong affinity for computers and technology
-Familiar with operation and updating procedures for various anti-virus and computer backup programs. (Sounds too lol bs? I'm just trying to use things he said in description in my response)

How's this so far?
Want to somehow include my '15 years of general computer experience via dicking around' somehow.

I like it so far.
Make sure you focus alot on:

('-<>-') <—Bring in now"Computers, backups, security and peripherals. Installing and trouble-shooting hardware and Windows PC software"

Wrote a wicked mining script for RuneScape - Job: Yours! ;)

But seriously, best of luck mate. I'd say you are well suited to the position and I'm sure if you take care and get the wording right they won't be able to say no :)

It's looking very good, don't want to get my hopes up TOO much, but this seems like I pretty much got it?!

Hello Aakash,

That is just what I needed to hear. Sounds like reasonable experience. It takes a certain mind-set to troubleshoot computers and it sound like you have that.

Do you have any experience with video editing software? We might have small projects from time to time if you do.

I have a small company of 10 people, all working from their home offices around the country. We make GPS software for people who are blind. I am blind as is my girlfriend who I live with. We use screen reading software. We also have a Mac in the house and iPhones so we sometimes need help with that as well.

I'd like to speak more on the phone. I am currently in Tokyo in route to Bangkok. I will be back in Davis November 25. I'll call you on the 26th unless I have time on this trip. What is the best number to reach you?

Mike

Definitely sounds like it :D Congrats man
However, both those links are broken :L
Here is the GPS software site
Here is the additional information about Mike and his story
Also found a more elaborate description about his life/experiences

Sounds like a very interesting man.

LEAVE HIM ALONE HE'S BLIND!
:) Yeah I also noticed the links had a few typos but figured them out, thanks for the proper ones though.

Yeah though! Check out his website, book, and bio, he seems like a very successful and awarded man!

Just say you've used camtasia to make those video tutorials that you mentioned :p

Sounds really promising, good job!
