Anyone that has 8.0 working mind sharing with the class how?

This is a machine that has Simba 991 with SMART 7.2 working. The Java directory is added to the PATH. Tried this on 2 different machines actually: One running Java 6, one running Java 7.

The v8.0 update includes three files. Dropping these 3 files into the plugins folder and defining SMART8 yields the error "Smart Cannot Spawn Clients".

Looking into the mess that is the plugins folder further it seems that SMART (at least 7.2) requires five files to load/run, not just those 3. The 2 additional files libsmart32.dll and smartremote32.exe are not part of the 8.0 .zip that you download.

Presumably an update to these 2 files are also required to get v8.0 up and running? I tried compiling SMART myself, and it produces: just those 3 files.

So…It would appear there is an additional step(s) required to actually use SMART v8.0???

SMART8 included all those files. Copy them to the plugins folder (C:\Simba\Plugins) and you are golden

No that did not do it. Still get "Smart cannot spawn clients". Downgrade to the 7.2 files, change the define back to SMART rather than SMART8 and can once again load smart (v7.2 that is).

Copied the entire contents of the .zip (including the not needed 64bit ones)

I fixed someones SMART by downgrading java to 6U34. Try that if you don't require Java 7.

In my case the fix was "Don't use it on Windows XP." Only works on Windows 7 for me. A exact copy of Simba from the working Win7 machine to the Xp machine yields the same errors.

I don't recall seeing that mentioned anywhere. Live and learn I guess.

Did you try running as admin or adding an exception to the firewall(This solved the smart cannot spawn clients error for me)

Pretty sure the firewall was turned off. Not in front of the machine but I'll check it later.

I downloaded the files, extracted them to the plugins folder, but now it runs smart 7.2. I"m sure this is an easy fix, i jsut don't know how
