YoHoJo Video Tutorials, Suggest already made tutorials for me to video-ize!

Hello everyone!

I've had this idea for a while and have decided to create video aids/versions of many of the already made tutorials by the wonderful members of SRL, similar to my popular video tutorial series on YouTube.

So many users have shown a ton of interest in the videos I have made, and highly prefer them (or at least love the visual, vocal, etc aid) over the plain text tutorials, or just like having the feeling of someone helping them along.

I know for a fact that many people who were extremely terrified by the sight of text tutorials or just too lazy to read through them all have used my videos as a great aid and segway into becoming some of the great scripters we have today!

Of course I ALWAYS suggest and point users to my favorite text tutorials for a more in depth and complete guide to scripting!

I think it would be great for users to have a video aid/guide to pair with the amazing text/image tutorials we already have so many of all over the tutorial island section!

TL;DR

So below please do suggest some of your favorite or in your opinion well written/important tutorials in either the beginner section (here) or intermediate section (here) and I will consider making a video aid to go along with them!

I plan to tackle Cohen's 'THE Beginner's Simba Tutorial' here as my first project, which will probably end up being 2 or more videos long!

Do this one : http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67691 :D

But seriously, this one: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90767

Or any other TPA tutorial that you deem worthy :D

Also thank you for your videos, they helped me a lot :)

Ohhh man TPAs and Walking Methods are the two most suggested tutorials I make!

I definitely plan on doing them in the future, but I want to make them DAMN GOOD, going to plan them out, compile the best information from various sources, make some good sample code snippets etc etc. I just want to cover a lot of the basics very well before diving into something like that!

Yeah, that would be a pretty major thing to videoize :p. Can't wait for whatever you decide to make!

Hey YoHoJo

Just a suggestion… If you are writing down code during your tutorials (which I assume you will be) Make sure to not delete any of it if you are explaining as that is something that has always frustrated me during programming tutorials in the past as I like to record everything that's written down and put comments down next to it for future reference incase I do not understand something in the future :)

Going to start from 'the bottom' and work my way up. As I said in OP http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58935 will be first, so probably not much that will be helpful to you/my previous viewers :p but it's a really good tutorial that will get more beginners into coding!

Eventually I'll start getting more advanced though I'm super excited to make [A]TPA and Walking tutorials but it's just going to take A LOT of planning to do it clearly and concisely.

Not exactly sure what you mean?

All of the code I write/show during my tutorials can clearly be seen and copied down easily. (If you view in 1080p (or even 720p) and pause the video where needed)
BUT I make it a strong point to NOT provide a copy/paste of any of my code/scripts from the tutorial in order to FORCE the viewer to type out the code themselves and get familiar with common coding debugging/mistakes/etc.

No sorry, you misunderstood me.. I enjoy writing down the code as I am going along as it actually teaches me what I'm doing and gives me a good solid idea of what to do and how things work but sometimes I find that by the end of the video they have started replacing variables and the such which makes it a little harder to keep track of and means while I am spending more time creating new instances of stuff opposed to just writing as I watch it makes it awkward as hell to keep up while keeping things in check! ^_^ I also encourage you to comment your code as much as you possibly can while creating a tutorial as it also helps the user understand clearly as sometimes explaining through voice as well as text plus if you provide the user with clear comments they can either copy these and/or convert them to something easier for them to understand in the future :)

To see what I mean checkout some TNB videos on C#, trying to watch them drove me nuts because he kept replacing all of his code with new code opposed to just creating a new method/variable to show what he was talking about.

Check out his first video here to see what it'll be like: remember full screen and 1080p so you can see the code :D

Hey YoHoJo, :)

Not sure how other people find this, but what I find really hard is trying to apply those things from the beginner's TuT rather than understand them. Going through another "let's make a woodcutter bot" type-of-vid would really help me more than anything.
Just learning about how to walk won't teach me how to include it properly in the main script. Besides, it's always those little things I stumble up on e.g. properly freeing DTMs at the end of a script or including AntiRandoms somewhere in your main loop to keep the script working.

Again, I'm only speaking for my selfish-self here :P, but personally looking at "Ok, this is a FOR..DO loop. For i=7 to….etc.." is not hard, but actually taking all those bits of information and properly applying them in order to patch it all together to make a working script is hard.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll make a great video and best of luck for your efforts! A lot of people will appreciate this - I'm certain of it. :f:

Not working on one :/ as I said it'll take a lot of work/planning.
I am on Winter break though so I have 3 weeks off and will make at least 1 video tutorial in that time. Most likely continue/finish up my video tutorial on Cohen's tutorial.
