I love our cups, we've had them forever, and they mean a lot to many of us :).

But our cups have no standard theme or size and can look rather random/messy at times.

They all have a common theme, look, and size to them.


How about we hold a competition for some of the talented graphics people here to create (or alter/edit/manipulate) their own new set of Cups for SRL?
Made in a style that is simple yet beautiful that way if ever new cups are needed to be created anyone good with graphics can do so.

Agreed. We have had aruments like this in the past, but those where about resizing the cyps. Restyling them requires an indeed skillfull designer. Great idea!

I can Agree but what design type should we take. I'm not particularly Okay with copying other forums designs or style as we have always been unique and I would like to remain that way.

I like the animated and more "3d" type cups like the Dev, admin, MSI and helper bear (not animated). I think we should use those as a "Style base"

Take a look at RuneCMS's ranks. They used bronze-rune pickaxes & bronze-rune bars for regular forum members. These reflected the user's post count. As you can see, higher-quality items (Santa hats, Pumpkins, Christmas Crackers/PartyHats) were reserved for those with special ranks.

We could do something similar to that, but minus the 3-item rank as that seems to have migrated to Sythe after RuneCMS fell. I do like that system though, related to Runescape so all the ranks are relevant.

And DON'T ask for more example RuneCMS links, it was hard enough just to find one that worked!

A lot of our ranks have nothing to do with Runescape.

I agree they need to be redone.

They don't bother me at all honestly, but I wouldn't be against some new designs. I'm not too sure how I like the idea of using RS related images for cups, though.

I always though that Sythe's cups were tacky.

I like our cups to be honest. It would be nice if they were all the same size, though, and I don't like them being related to RS. I don't want to see completely new cups, but I wouldn't mind seeing some tweaks just to see what people come up with.

We could shrink the cups a bit and size them all to be at a standard size.

Also I like some of the Runemart Awards :)

Sythe and Rid have ugly RS cups. Let's stay away from RS images as much as possible.

One common theme I saw is that most all of those Site's have a Image Guru cup. We might like to think about adding one. :)

Lol we could have an Image contest for the cup and have a vote later on it with the Winner getting the first cup :p

Doesn't have to be an all out competition, but I guess it could be if you want. A thread will probably be enough.

Add cup standardization to the to-do list. We can do it after the forum upgrade.

They were thinking about it yes. Tho it wouldn't be only for you, it'd be for anyone who proves to be a "Graphics" Guru.

Here are a couple of quick cup replacement ideas from quick google search in the "pseudo 3d" category.
They obviously aren't resized at all.
Not a huge fan of the masters or scripters one, but best found on a quick search.

I like the idea of having the name of each cup next to each cup, it would be really really helpful.

Even just keeping same cups and at least making them the same size would help them look a lot better, and a few could/should be swapped out though.

I really, really dislike that. You can just hover the cup to get the name. When you get text in there it looks horrible and cluttered.

At this point, does it matter? The cat has been the scripter's cup for years and should be kept in my opinion.

I don't really want to see any of the cups replaced or completely changed.

Not sure how tut writer and dev gears would look at that size, but it's worth a shot to see anyways.

Pretty small for dev gears.

I would say make them 50x50px, but any that are already smaller (ie admin globe), leave them the size they are. If resizing is the approach that's decided on, that is.

Let's stay away from the RS items please. They don't accurately capture what I feel we represent as a community, and they look stupid.

On the other hand, I'm all for restyling the cups but won't introducing new cups be difficult unless they manage to capture the old cup a bit?

I personally like the current cups, they've been this way since I joined and I love em.

What is the forum upgrade?!? :D Does that include the landing page I built?

It's a style of decorating. It's called eclectic. The theory behind it is, if you have great pieces of furniture, it doesn't matter if they match. They'll go together.

The way I see it, our cups have their own 'eclectic' style, and stand by themselves as unique, but uniform in their differences. I happen to like them just the way they are, but if the community doesn't, then they most certainly should be changed to more accurately reflect the tastes of the group at large.

I'm neutral on the matter. :p Although, I just don't want to see any animated cups, as they are too flashy and too distracting.

I do like them as they are. Each one is different and unique. I can see the issue with re-sizing, maybe just re-organize them on so it's from large to small? Flamboyant animations are tacky, most of the ones here are fairly low key though.

If I might throw out a suggestion, could we perhaps change the Promising Newcomer cup? IMO it really doesn't fit in with the rest.

That's a pretty old cup, but I know what you mean. We have a few cups that don't really mesh with the rest but most of those aren't cups that you see that often.

Which reminds me someone is due to lose theirs as they already have the old timer cup which is suppose to replace it at 2 years. :rolleyes:

You can do the with forum categories, maybe in the newer versions you can set a display priority. Seems silly not to have it.

Edit: Did some research, not in vB4 however it is in vBulletin's JIRA Tracker under new feature requests.

They need this as well as standardizing the icons to one theme.

Also some of the "specific" cups should be badges instead.

Leave the width sized to poportion. Just resize the height to all be 50 pixels.

I think maybe I should add a small transparent border around the admin cup…
I also removed one of the frames from the admin gif so now it doesnt have that brief pause in the rotation.

I don't like them resized. :( I think they look better the way they are.
