[2M] Help me download Java! [2M]

Hey guys,

I'm trying to update Java to 1.7, but its not working… I've tried everything, deleted all previous versions, Used third party installers, etc. etc., but Java still doesn't work. Under Control Panel/Java, it says 1.7 is downloaded and enabled, but no Java applets(RS, Tribot, Java "Check if you have Java" Applet) work. If someone could TV or Skype me and help me set it up, theres 2m with your name on it!

When you find out why and fix it, you mind posting the solution?
I only ask because my friends computer (new laptop) wont run anything with java. Little errors always pop up so he just went back to his old one. If I knew how to fix it I would so now I am open to suggestions/solutions.

I could help, just tell the details of the computer. (OS, how old, memory, etc)
When was the last time you successfully installed Java.
And does it say it installs properly?

The Killer

tried checking the environmental variables?

Windows 7, its an acer computer, 3GB of RAM. Probably about 2 years old now. I have never sucessfully installed JAVA 1.7, but I can install java 1.6 easily, using the exact same procedures. It says it installed sucessfully just like when I install 1.6.

No Idea what those are. Care to explain? :)

Do your clients work? Try all of them. If none of them work, plus in browser ones don't work, which version of 1.7 are you using, did you try others?

Nothing using Java works in either browsers. I'm on the latest version of java off Java.com.

Go to: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Click the 'Test the currently installed…'

PrintSCR. I need to see exactly what it says.

I've never used Powerbot…

I downloaded it and got a .jar file. Whereabouts would I find the .bat file?

Have you ever installed a JDK on it, then uninstalled?
Problem with Java is that if you used to play Runescape on Java 6 and then updated to a JDK, which you later uninstalled, the system completely forgets you had Java 6 in the first place.

Uninstall anything labelled 'Java' in Programs and Features, then install from the "get java" website

Unless of course you deleted Java's files from /Program Files/ without removing the registry keys, in which case you'd have to go through your registry deleting any mention of Java…

This one?

Hei Roger,
thanks for your reply. It pointed me to the right direction. In fact the problem was that I was connected on VPN (CISCO) while accessing pages with java. Since Java 7, there is a problem due to Ipv6 (http://jonathangiles.net/blog/?p=1126). So I disabled it from the VPN connection and added this line to the java runtime parameters:
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

Now it's ok

BR,
Richard

A) I'm not running a VPN
B) I'm using IPV4, not IPV6
C) Not using any proxies
D) Not sure how do edit Java Runtime Parameters. :p

I did used to have a JDK, and I uninstalled it. I've tried deleting every java related file, but I'll try again. Do I actually have to go through my registry manually and delete all Java related stuff? I have a program called JavaRa, and it says it deletes all java related things for me, not sure if it does registry though.

Why don't you try downloading and installing both java 32bit and 64bit? Somepeople get it fixed through that, still looking though!

Footy

2012-10-27 22:10:19

Attempting now!
E: Online or Offline x86?
E2: Trying offline…

Rezozo

2012-10-27 22:20:33

Tell me if it works!!

Footy

2012-10-27 22:29:06

It told me 64 bit Java wasn't compatible with my computer. Still recieving the same error with 32 bit offline Java.

Rezozo

2012-10-27 22:39:04

Hmm, I know you can install 32 bit on 64, thought it could go vice versa :P
Are you sure you are not running the CISCO Vpn client?
Also, check your firewall settings, do you get it to work if FW is disabled?

Footy

2012-10-27 22:41:02

I don't think I'm using any VPN, not intentionally anyways. I am using a Cisco router though if that makes any difference…

I am using a firewall, I'll disable it in the morning and let you know what happens, its getting late.

Footy

2012-10-29 19:06:12

Firewall did nothing, 2M still up for grabs. I'd like to let everyone know now that I now have these versions of Java on my computer, I'm learning Java, so I need the JDK.

Rezozo

2012-10-30 15:29:35

Hmm…If firewall didn't cause this, and It is installed, something else is definitely blocking it.

Check every security software you have, McAfee, Norton, AVG etc!

Footy

2012-10-30 15:49:47

The Killer

2012-10-30 16:30:44

hmm footy if you don't resolve this jsut reformat comp. I had to do it once because my java was f***ed

footballjds

2012-10-30 16:41:38

his comp is blown. His parents have 73 different AV's. toolbars out the butt on every browser. Parental controls. Poooopy pooopy pooopy AV like norton(wtf)
HAHAH <3 footy. i'll still get this working

EDIT:
real suggestion. reformat, create an account(limited) for parents and use the admin account yourself. Don't use an AV unless daddy likes porn… In which case run MBam every now and then.

Footy

2012-10-30 16:42:56

Toolbars are probably my fault, I havn't reformatted in about 2-3 years. :p PM'ing u new TV stuff.

footballjds

@Rezozo, I have no interest in learning what that acronym stands for. :p

I'm likely going to do a reformat and hope it works. :D

Rezozo

2012-10-30 18:44:32

Enslaved

that may be a good idea, reinstall windows while your at it, that awill remove all the crap, and remember to back up registry post reinstall of OS, have around 5 backups befor you start deleting things, and only save the reg settings if you are 100% sure it is stable, always keep the post firstBoot backup btw
