Most people dont know about this but there is something called DreamSpark where you can get Microsoft software for free.

The only requirement is that you have to be a current student , i just finished downloading my legit copy with key and im going to install it now. When i say free copy im not talking about the developer preview thing.

If you want to do it you have to go to Dreamspark which is linked with OnTheHub some microsoft partner.

Nice, I think I might try this, as I think my uni offers it.

Is it win 8 pre-release or has win 8 come out and this is the actual win 8? (I forget when the release date is/was, but I think its somewhere around now?)

Edit : also, is it professional ed only? :s

I'll take a look at it. The university I'm studying at is not linked yet, but someone in my class asked them to set it up for us. Can't you also get Visual Studio for free?
EDIT: Looks like you also need to send in some documents to prove you are really a student. Can't you get the Ultimate version? Or Pro version?

Thanks for this, I did not know that all of this software is available to students. Installing now, I will see how nicely Windows 8 Pro plays with my hardware.

I'll get mine now then! (thought that win 8 pro was the equivalent to win 7 professional)

Yeah, but if you have activated for lets say 180 days (i guess this is common) you can put this Cd-key, and it activates it for unlimited time, + adds media center features.

My brother is currently enrolled in a university listed there, but how can he get a DreamSpark account? When trying to register on the website:

How can he get his account Username or get 'an administrator to create it'?

He prob has to be in the right computer oriented major (no clue, but it seems like that at the school I will be going to which is also on the list)

He needs to speak with the head of the compsci department prob? maybe

EDIT: Nope, just has to verify his student email when signing up.
