Could you please post your scripts using simba tags in your application.

E: I voted yes based purely upon your scripting ability. You clearly demonstrate that you have the ability for this rank, although as others have said and I'm sure many more will say and vote accordingly, this is after-all a community rank. Get a bit more active, keep hanging around and let us all get to know you. If you don't get in this time around that is the only area I believe you need improvement in.

2012-10-14 03:48:10

I read through every link, though you should probably edit your post and put each piece of code in simba tags, so that we don't have to manually copy-paste each link. It is much easier on us when we can see everything on the thread.

Comments:
You are very skilled, though it would be better if you had scripts that utilized your building finder and sound plugin. I don't know what we could use your watchdog for, but i's still great that you can come up with it.

You should post proggies/videos etc. of your cow killer, even if it's not ready for release. I read through the code, you know how to use TPAs and ATPAs well. I didn't understand why you bother with findcolortoelrance etc instead of their plural forms (findcolorstolerance) that give you nice TPAs instead of x and y coords.

The only weakness of your application is your inactivity in the community, and that we don't explicitly know whether your script works. But hey, I'm still voting yes because I hope that you will become more active in the future and release fantastic stuff for SRL.

Don't forget to edit your post with the code, I know that some will vote no just because they can't see the code in the thread.

Snippet:
I enjoy the thought and effort put into the inHouse snippet you posted. To me, it definitely shows your general ability to put knowledge into scripting. However I do want to see more of your efforts sprouting in the community topics helping others out too, whatever the topic may be.

Script:
I think this is an example of your experienced-based scripting background. The script itself is reputable in my opinion, in terms of applying higher knowledge to functions that get the job done. As said before me by litoris, you are able to effectively use TPA's and ATPA's. Now instead of my normal critique of a script, I'll just move past that (seeing as it would be a waste of time, as most everyone already is aware of your ability). I think, as mentioned by others on this application thread, that you do lack a sense of community involvement. Granted there's real life that comes first (I can account for how busy that gets), however when you do view threads, your input can only refine the topic. When people just lurk, I do feel like I miss out on interesting/good/constructive opinions.

To sum my vote up, you seem well knowledgeable with code and I would like to see you involve yourself more when you visit SRL. I think your contributions to SRL as a member would be better motivation to work towards the fore said goals and I wouldn't want to waste such a bright mind.

=Yes

Going to have to vote no because of Activity. :(
Scripting is there, but you can't be all script and no activity, it seems everyone who does that leaves in a month or so(Mato, Zmon, cof cof)

Your script looks really good, but your activity isn't enough for me. As stated above, being an SRL member is more then being a good scripter. It's also about being an active, helpful member in the community. I won't be voting, seeing how I was just accepted in my self, just some words of advice.

As mentioned above there are some examples of similar situations. The scripting capabilities are fine but the activity is bad. I'll sleep a night and make my final decision tomorrow!

You clearly have scripting abilities that would you would expect from a SRL member, but your standards are all over the place. Also activity is low, but those things come with time. Good enough for me I'm voting yes.

Hey slushpuppy, for some reason you've gotten a lot of no's and very little explanation of what activity really means around here. Although I have not posted much the past few months, I ALWAYS keep and eye out on important topics, Usually PM people who need help and so on. But I have yet to see you around the forums. A lot of people just do it just for the title and we don't need that. Now, Your script would have been a lot better if your standards weren't all over the place. You show you have the ability but you really need to use that skill to help others achieve their goals as well. That is what being a member here means. You've been here for a year now, maybe its time to bump that activity to at least 50%. My vote will be no for now, due to the fact that within the past month, you've had about 15 posts. Best luck!

But mainly theres a bunch of people here who don't post who I feel are voting no for the sake of it… Theres a lack of activity here yes, but a great sense of skill. Zmon wasn't here for long and he had a insta-yes pretty much.

Xtrapsp, As I posted before, I hate to see no's without a given reason. Honestly, I had to vote no because of the activity, just doesn't meet my criteria as vote based on activity and scripting abilities. I'm not a IRC person, I don't know what goes on there but seeing whats posted on the actual board is what I base my decision on. He seems to post every couple days which is fine, but having a low post count throughout a year doesn't meet my criteria. I don't think anyone voted NO just for the sake of it, but I always pushed the no voters on my application to give me reason. Can proudly say that's what got me to where I am today. So, to be honest, its not US who needs to worry about the no voters as much as we encourage them to say it, its the applicants who should worry about it. He/she should post saying, "hey, no voters, can you tell me why the hell your voting no so I could do something about it". Idk, that's just from my point of view. I posted my reason, and stand by it till I can see change.

riwu

2012-10-26 23:14:38

Some no-voters may not wish to be a parrot repeating what others has already said, or that the reasons are already stated clearly in many of the application guidelines.

I'd think community involvement is as important as attitude, as it shows your level of commitment to SRL. Some people may be very experienced programmers but if they are not committed they will just leave after awhile (or remain extremely low level of activity).

Applicants should not focus merely on the 'factors that make the electorate vote yes', but also the reverse. If you want a successful application, make sure no one can find a reason to vote no! I'd hope to see much greater activity, as well as greater application of your knowledge in your released scripts.

(I didn't vote btw to follow the guidelines)

You guys take activity too serious. Maybe they have other things in IRL to do. 599 posts since 2007 and 20% activity rating. I'm sure you have other things to do indeed which may be why.

When was the last time you guys saw a Benland100 post other than on a Smart release or something that interests him or to slap someone for being stupid?

Hope I'm not swaying votes here but skills and attitude should matter more. Members will come and go. Activity does matter but it shouldn't overlook skill.

That being said, I would indeed like to see more activity.

Hope I'm not swaying votes here but skills and attitude should matter more. Members will come and go. Activity does matter but it shouldn't overlook skill.

That being said, I would indeed like to see more activity.

It's more for the future, members such as Zmon, Mato, silentw0lf etc got made a member even with low activity and their activity is literally non existent anymore :/

From the beginning, I knew my low activity was detriment as pointed out by feedback on this topic, however as you can see, the post count has been improving.

I do hope voters will take into account my recent activity, not overall for one year - as previously, I didn't have the time nor the access to a computer to contribute to forum activity or even IRC.

Regarding some fear that my previous lack of activity will only mean I will jump ship after getting rank, consider that while I didn't interact with the community I still developed actively for the client- even getting involved in a few simba-related startups with some of the members.

Only recently that I decided to commit fully to this community and I believe applying for SRL member and meeting its requirements will solidify that.

It is too bad they aren't active anymore but there is no detriment for them being inactive members…
EDIT: I don't mean to take away anyone's personal opinion, but when you are about to vote no, and you see multiple Mods, admins, and SSRL voting yes, maybe you should reconsider that "no" vote.
