Is there anyone I could send PMs to that could help me with Java programming, I mean just explaining the concepts to me when I have a question. I am having a difficult time learning this >.<

I really like examples so if you are good at those :D, uhh the reason I don't just post all my questions here is because my professor searches the web for his questions after he releases them and well that would be problematic for me not that I am cheating (as I am not, not asking you to complete my assignments for me) I just don't see it going over well >.<

Anyway if anybody is up for this, please PM ME!
I don't mind a small fee/per help etc. Just name it.

I know the basics, I don't know at what level your questions are. There are other people with more knowledge probably.

I could help you if its code.

I am at the basic level, we just covered for loops and arrays. I understand the concept behind both but for example am not able to put them into my code for any useful function as I just don't understand where or why I would put it there.

Even the whole "set" "get" ordeal still confuses me.

Kasi I will PM you, next time I have a question (Which should be in the next couple hours.. as I try to crank out a huge 500+ line program.. >.<)

set and get can be used in front of functions. These function set or get a variable. Why would you want to use these you might ask? Well in some cases it is required for debugging or logic to run extra stuff when a variable is set.

Like setting the gravity in a game, or the size of a square. In the first example you might want to pass it to all objects. In the second example you might also want to adjust the width and height variables or redraw the square.

Thats fine just tell me where your trying to do with your code, where your struggling and stuff like that. ill try explain it as best i can.

Set and Get are because in java you have all these classes. Say you make a program for school records and have a class named Student. Inside student you have vars such as Name, Grade, GPA, StuentNumber, etc…

Now you will use this for creating student objects.

Say we have 2 students. StudentA and StudentB
We will make two objects for them

Student StudentA = new Student(John, 10, 2.7, 443290);
Student StudentB = new Student(Mark, 11, 3.2, 2345643);

So in your Student class you'll normally make accessor and mutator methods. This is your get and set methods.

So if you do something like StudentA.getName(); it will return John
Or if you do StudentB.setGPA(3.3); it will change StudentB's GPA variable to 3.3

This is for protection so people cant just go StudentB.GPA = 3.3
We cant them to have to go through the class to access and change the values rather than bypassing it and changing it themselves. Thats what the set and get allows us to do.

Class Student{

private String Name;
private int Grade;
private double GPA;
private int StudentNumber

public static void Student(String locName, int locGrade, double locGPA, int locStudNum){
Name = locName;
Grade = locGrade;
GPA = locGPA;
StudentNumber = locStudNum;
}

public static String getName(){
return Name;
}

public static void setName(String input){
Name = input;
}
}

So see in the above example, the actual vars are marked as private? That means they cant be seen outside of the class. So if I tried to reference or change StudentA.GPA directly, I wouldnt be able to.

I would have to use the public method which can access the vars since they are inside the class.

Does that make sense, sorry kinda typed this out in a hurry :p
