I am really not trying to start a war here, and please don't take this the wrong way. Having said that I would just like to drop 2 cents (my opinon) in a bucket. What are the true advantages to being a member?

I ask this as I sit here looking for over the members script section. Some fairly outdated work, and some very *cough* dusty scripts. There seems to be more activity in the public section. As I write this there are only 3 or so people browsing members scripts, and 20+ cruising the public sector. Shouldn't this be the other way around, or even a little closer?

It isn't just the numbers, it is the amount of awesome scripts in the pub section. So, people have even a greater amount of awesome crap to leach from, and less of a drive to learn to script for themselves. It seens like anything with a huge amount of minutes racked up on it, or a large following should be moved out to members. I think that by leaving some of our best work, or very good work in the public area it discourages people to try.

There needs to be more privilages to being a member. Why can't we sell scripts to members, or set aside a private site to do so?..i just can't bear to go to sythe. Or some kind of drive to go this far. I can't remeber the thread but there was a post not long ago where a few chickens were taliking amounst themselves, and one said

are you gonna go for members?

and the other one said

no i heard it sucks.

by suck, i wonder what they meant.

I think that selling/buying opens a site to scammers and all that stuff…so I really don't want that…

But yes, I think members should release their better scripts to other members only *cough* LAME

Or, do things like this: theres gonna be another great tutorial island runner in members soon, and there will be a free version too, but it will be pretty limited , which will make people want to become members so they can get the good one. (or crack it; either way, they get scripting experience)

Yeah, when i became a member, i expected loads of great script here (who didn't), but there are only 2 that I use. I like this section because we can talk privatly and about more advanced things that they don't know about. But i wouldn't want to release a script in the mmebers section because there wouldn't be that manyt replies compared to the free section. It is very active over there, but not as active over here. The free section is just so big and open while this section is much smaller. I still do love this section, but we should do a little change maybe.

I personally have no use for scripts for my personal gain beside using them as a reference for learning and I'm sure a majority of members feel the same way.

I've been thinking about this recently and I think we should take all the good scripts out of free scripts section (unless made by registered users) and then make a list of all the good member scripts so people might want to become members more.

Well, i agree with whales, that most members dont really care for the profit as much as the challenge of scripting. But i will release my future scripts into members… so yea.

If we take out all the good scripts, we will get WAY too many member applications or horrible script and copied scripts. Enough people already try to cheat their way into members, imagine how many more people will want members once good scripts are removed.

Lets not make Public a good thing…

Here are some options i could think of:

1.) Make them post at least 20 times to make a script request
2.) Have all very good scripts moved to members except maybe like 3 so they can see member scripts are good.
3.) They must have 50+ posts to apply for members
4.) Have some more up to date member scripts lol
5.) Idk, ill think of more later :p

This thing has been brought up numerous times… I think free scripts moving is a little bit of a progress.

Overall, I think it's scripters choice. I thought srl members would have been a heaven full of scripts, but it wasnt. I wasn't disappointed though, since I had gotten the yellow name that I was really looking for :P

LOL, frankly I didn't think people would use LAME nearly as much as they have. Sure, I think it's awesome, and it's pretty much flawless, but I figured that most leechers wouldn't give a crap about magic levels, and would only care about stuff like miners and choppers that they can use to get rs cash.

And I think this is still true. Most people that are using LAME are already members, or end up becoming members. They are the ones that "get it". They buy into the SRL philosophy. Perhaps I will move it to members at some point, if I add ranging to it or something.

The ones that are running RSDemon bots all over the place and the ones that are mining essence 24/7 are generally not using LAME. It's not worth bothering with to them because they don't care about the SRL philosophy, only about geepees.

Also, note that my ChickenKiller is and always has been a members only script., and it's right up there in the pack of most used scripts.

yeah, i totally agree, and i made a post that was all about uniting SRL members (and devs too) to make a super script, and we could make one every once in a while, but that thread was soon past the 1st page….

Honestly I know the Dev's work hard and all in what they do, but I really think they should organize more group things or select people to do things like that.
I think I would be a good project organizer myself because I do a lot of that in RL with school and friends and stuff… But really when I got in I thought there would be things that would run for like 120hours normally and crazy stuff like that. But I guess I'm just going to have to make members a more interesting place XD.

Anyway, you guys are the members, so you should be able to script yourself, right? (Thats the whole idea of becoming a member)

If you just come here and saying members scripts aren't good enough, then (in theory) you are the leecher…..
Together Members can produce more scripts, and if you guys keep helping eachother, improve the scripts..

The whole point of being a Member is to learn how to script yourself. If you just want to just leach scripts, then get out, we don't really want you here.

Its a place where you can get help from people who actually know what they're talking about, where you can learn about new techniques, and be on the front line of advancements in SCAR.

Then maybe even move up to a dev. We only ever consider SRL members for devs, thats a big plus.

I totally agree. WT-Fawaki said "We do what we are good at, and that is Autoing" But on the other side we don't want to ruin runescape. Look at this:

Come one guys, isn't this over flooding? I think, we should go back to private again and let the people think not leech. Give them access to the latest SRL and to the tutorial section. But NOT i repeat NOT let them leach scripts and post proggy's, what most don't even do. Let them get the feeling of being a member, of scripting and most of all of a small community! I'm sure things have got to change.

Yes, this is true. But you forget, what kind of replies you get in free? Stupid question's, noobs that can't find the download button etc.. I think if you just release a version that works for only 3 hour. And give that to the free section. And then you say: "If you become a member, you will get the full version for free". Then you get two people 1) The leechers, these will try another way to get good scripts.
2)The people that really want to get that script and will learn Scar scripting afterwards!

I guess that could be a very good solution. We are getting into a leechers community. Please stop it, before it's to late!

yeah, im not saying being an SRL member sucks, because obviously it doesn't, but I think we should all unite more and create more better-quality scripts. I don't leech and don't want to, but I think it's exciting when a new really good script comes out, and i think it would be fun to make one all together to realease to the members community.

I'm back and am going to be more active now!
