My ear is feeling rather blocked today, any ideas to make it better / unblock it?

Get them cleaned, you will feel and hear really different for the next few weeks. I get them cleaned every few years, it's fun :)

I will if the problem persists over the next few days.

I'm having a similar problem, I have to keep asking people to repeat themselves. It might be a plugged ear, or it might be because I spend most of the summer in my room learning pascal script… :p

I used to get ear infections/wax buildup a lot and tried ear drops, ear candles (pretty much everything) then got told to use a hair clip carefully after showering and haven't used any other method since you can literally drag the earwax out.

Naw man, it just pushes the stuff farther in.

If there's that much that a q-tip would push it in further, then he deserves his ear to be blocked. It's his fault for not keeping his ears clean on a regular basis. When I shower, I tilt my head to the side and let the water stream into each of my ears for a few seconds. Then I q-tip when I'm done. Never had an ear infection, blocked ear, or other ear problem. I hate looking at someone from the side and seeing yellow/brown/green crap growing in their ears. Like seriously.

Get a plastic tipped syringe like so:

Fill a small glass with 1/2 warm water, 1/2 hydrogen peroxide

Fill syringe with solution

Put syringe in your ear tilting your head a little bit so it will flow back out when you shoot it up

Shoot it in with an average amount of force (not super hard for ear drum)

Enjoy the snap crackle pop (Had to do this for an ear infection once upon a time)

Also everytime I go swim in a pool for an hour or so (chlorine pool), my ears are super clean. But I'm also with Nebula, grosses me out when people have nasty ears, clean them regularly!

You could test the neti pot on your ears, worked well on my nose.

My solution is, go in the shower, turn the water on highest tolerable temperature, then if you have a jet mode on your showerhead it will work best, but anything will do, and aim it at your ear. Do it for about 10 seconds and then use your pinky or some finger to get the remaining wax (it's in the shower so it's not wierd). Then repeat until you don't get any more wax. I do this about every week and my hearing has never been better.

I use a syringe with a little warm water and peroxide.. First you let peroxide soak in your ear for a little, it eats up some of the wax and loosens the block up a little. Then get someone to help you syring it out. Takes a few tries, and if you cant get it out go to a medical center and make an appointment to get them cleaned. Takes like 30minutes. :)

this sounds like a good method, i have a plastic syringe somewhere, but it doesnt have a bendy end like the one in ashman's pic. Why would i find peroxide? is it a house hold object or something I would find in the chemists?

I'm more likely to go to the doctors than go out to buy something, because it's the same about of effort to go to the doctors and have it done properly.

woke up this morning and still blocked.

I would recommend the doctor. They will get it done fast and alot better than you could do yourself. Hope your hearing gets better mate!

I had a blocked ear a week ago. It's quite unconfortable. So I went to the walk in clinic and had them clean it out. Took less then 5 minutes and my ear feels like new. I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself with something from the internet or the pharmacy. You could end up damaging your ear drum which can be permanent.

Do NOT use Qtips as they, as it's been stated, just push and stuff it in deeper.
