Botwatch is the name of the software Jagex uses to detect accounts using bots ingame. This system is scheduled to receive a major update on 24 September 2012 along with the release of Botany Bay. According to Mark Gerhard, Botwatch will be able to profile accounts and determine whether or not they are using botting software. Other rather unsuccessful anti-botting measures have focused on protecting and obfuscating RuneScape's source code; Botwatch doesn't focus on breaking the code of the botting software but instead monitors an account's actions and determines whether or not it is human behavior. The Botwatch system will have the ability to ban players directly, making it the first automated banning system in RuneScape. This being said, Jagex is quite confident that Botwatch will be flawless and not ban any legitimate players.
According to Mod Jacmob, he himself has worked on this project.
I know that the main targets are powerbot/epicbot, but wouldn't something like this target all bots in general?

Yes, yes it would. :)

Yes it targets all bots in general, as they so claim.
However with the right simba script, you're at no higher risk than playing legit.

The way this thing is going to work out is by Jagex having the power to see the client the way you see it. It's kind of like them coming to your house and looking at your computer. So if they see no procedure and/or clients, you are okay. which that's the hard part.

Are you saying they can see what we are running on our computer? Wouldn't that break every law of online privacy? :p And also, Jagex is going after Epicbot and Powerbot legally, trying to sue them and take them down. They aren't, and likely won't ever sue us, because we are 100% opensource and non-profit.

im pretty sure jagex can't legally see what's on our computers even if they can, and I don't think jagex will go through legal troubles just to get rid of bots

I'm not sure about how they will do this but i'm guessing it would be something like that. After all, I think there would be some kind of reflection that jagex will use to see how we are running our players.

If they can do that, I'll just bot in the client. Rename simba, change the icon in the taskbar, keep it minimised. Even if they can see my screen, they wont be able to see I'm botting.

Well hopefully this doesnt cause us too much trouble. But at the same time, I want botters to be gone because I have maxed out my account to do almost anything in game legit. It would be a good time if pb and eb messed up. Footy read my m if you havent.

Indeed. We really can step up our human-like behavior in our scripts and I'll personally be working on projects along these lines.
I think what will get players banned from here on out is how the
use the scripts; are they always running the same script in the same area for the same purpose for hours on in? IMO, normal players aren't going to do one task for that long, and if they did they
probably wouldn't do it again the next day. We need to mix up which scripts we use in-game more often, not just focus on one skill or one task.

When you agree to run Runescape you legally agree to let them monitor your computer (to a point?), it's actually in the ToS. Besides, I've heard Blizzard does this already, why wouldn't Jagex? :/

We'll have to improve certain things to be more human-like. Jagex once said that a part of there bot detection system detects if you're aiming for the middle of buttons like humans do, or click on a random spot on the button like bots do. I'm almost finished with some procedures to do this human-like :D
We should have a topic where ideas of human-like/antiban procedures can be posted.

This is gonna make it alot harder to learn to script, all the new scripts are gonna have to be pretty human-like. =/

Yes, but that means all scripters will have to put in some real effort to each script rather than half assing it :)

Like with every anti-bot update, we will be seeing more advanced techniques and a new golden age of botting once these techniques are mastered.

Agreed, I should become a mod so there are more people to handle the influx of noobs.
…
Avoiding being banned doesn't mean adding a few extra procedures to the case statement in your antiban function. Add total randomness throughout your scripts and don't bot 15 hours a day. Tbh I look forward to the challenge. Think- What would a human do?

I doubt this is going to affects bots very much at all. Sure, ban rates might be higher but they're doing nothing to
stop the bots if you think about it.
Plus, there were two massive updates to powerbot's RSBot yesterday/today so I'm sure they're prepared.

It could be the fact most people are waiting to see what this update actually does in terms of how bannable, so no one is actually botting. :o Everyone seems to be saying they are gonna legit for a few days then see what happens.

Those spots are empty because the powerbot scripts are temporarily removed from the SDN, untill the scripters update them to be compatible with the new RSBot.

It's your choice if you are going to bot non-stop and expect to be still recognized as a human by this new system.

I like the whole Idea of getting rid of spammers, advertisers and basically the autotypers.
Been botting from about 3PM GMT on and off due to randoms and Bugs in my Script causing it to Stop, (Not ones that make you looks bot type :P) Which makes it look semi human that every so often it logs then re logs about 30 min later.
From the picture of the Mod on the Forums we could expect a update tomorrow? defo with in the next week.

botwatch = a system that looks for players who do the same exact things, as timming and clicks, delays, camera movements ect, This would be a very bad thing if botwatch only looked at how users do randoms, obviously clients all have one setting for randoms >.<
but if they only looked at skilling then simba users really wouldnt be affected to much since they really dont have alot of users using the same exact scripts. And even the users who do use public scripts have the ability to tweak the script just enough to make themselves uniqe and not get detected.
