What's with all the bots these days?

There are 1000's of bots mining essence; some well above lvl-100, and all still with obnoxious names.
Also there are 10's of level-3 back in the Mining guild.
Yew bots are back too, and on member worlds it is even worse; soooo many botters around. Lvl-138 at black dragons, lvl-120 hunter bots, ranging guild bots, runecrafting bots (with familiairs!). List goes on. I thought Jagex delt with this….but obviously…..not.

Any idea who is behind this?

Powerbot and EpicBot are back for quite a while now. ;)

They are probably all injection bots since they came back up, because i've noticed that when there is an update there seems to lower a lot the botting activity until some hours later

make me one of them good ol bot reporting scripts I'll run like 10 of them with a vpn connection so I don't get in trouble by jagex :P

Injection is pretty much back to the pre-nuke era. Jagex said a nuke would arrive by the end of july, and now they are saying one will happen next week.

Yeah Fakawi it seems botting in RS now revolves around making a living IRL, we've mainly the Reflection & Injection bots to thank for that. What you're seeing is gold-farmers making their living. :(

What are your opinions about the whole situation Fakawi? I'd like to hear your input tbh.

Actually, I can't wait for the nuke! Itll be great!

As for the current sitiyation, To me they are just annoying, stealing all my trees and cows.

I really hope jagex figured out enough to make this nuke work, I'm really hoping they're gone for good

What is your intention? Helping jagex with this? I don't know what your script does or how it works, but I doubt it can recognize bots flawfless. I think those 10 reporters help the botters, not jagex tbh..
(if your intention is to harm jagex, then ur doing great :) )

Yeah it does seem like most of the bots are actually goldfarmers rather than just people trying to get some extra gold or levels. The reason it's P2p I think is because people believe because they are members they are immune to bans. >.<

1)Place accounts in places where everyone bots, like mining guild or karamja docks
2)Bot uses MMtoMS or some other method to find players(easiest way would be to move to white mm dots and then hover mouse above self)
3)Right click-report them all
4)Hop to another world, repeat

I think Jagex will pound them with the release of Botany Bay.

I predict that on release of botany bay there will be j mods scouting for first week in popular bot spots so it looks like botany bay is successful etc then it will diedown and they will stop and it will return to normal (ish)

You could just look at one of the good ol' scripts I was talking about.. it just stands there and reports everyone running back and forth

big deal if I report a legit player… which I won't, because there are none.

Hopefully they all get banned because if they do, then I'm going to take over with my personal dragon killer.

Making a living with cheating on runescape is imho a sad thing, but then again, I am an old dowd with a good job. If I'd be a young, fast, talented but poor lad with lots of computerpowers at my disposal and lots of time to spare…. (majority of SRL?) I think I'd maybe do the same. It's all a matter of perspective really. If I was born in Germany in the 1920's, I'd probably be a Nazi, no?

I think that cheating the way we do is all about intellectual challenge and not so much for the reward. By the time I'd finish a script, I'd usually already accomplished the rs-goal I'd written it for. I cheat because it is fun, it makes me smarter, and I love to be in control.

Anyways it is faaaaar superior than spending hours and hours mindlessly clicking on pixels….like all legits do.

For Gajex it can be twofold: they either need the money from p2p-bots, or they dont know how to tackle the problem. I fear it is the latter. Software companies operate in mysterious ways (I am betatester for several companies) and bugs and issues are never acknowledged ("No, we dont have that") until it can be proven beyond doubt, with a written manual, illustrated with pictures, arrows and red markers, and signed by everyone. Until that, there is no problem.

But recently, with the introduction of stockholders, Gajex's future suddenly looks a lot more grim/serious. They continuously issue botnuke statements, take down bottingsites, accuse people, but actually this does nothing but allay the crowd. I think in the future they will need to do more botnukes/alterations to keep the crowd satisfied. This will affect us too I am afraid, though we are the odd one out. But as long as we can see runescape, we'll be able to cheat it I suppose.

I dont care about young dudes trying to make little money. What I really dont like is people/organisations making huge profit of bots (Did you know that Ruler and Geno earned approx. $30,000 each month?…just from selling scripts). That is imho outrageous and completely out of balance. Everyone that makes this kind of money is doomed to be expelled from the scene and sued bigtime.

That is why we are still here….no money involved. (Well….technically no money. We still need to pay for the hosting :))

Sounds helpful. As if jagex isn't aware of all those bots…

I can understand that, but my views remain on opinion of keeping gains from botting inside the game; not using it as an alternative to making money IRL. Just a regular job will pay off much more, as well as stability. When it comes to botting on such a big scale it seems like everyone loses, excluding the one running the farm.

Ah very well said. Spoken as a fellow veteran of the RS cheating scene. :) Indeed the true reward here is the creation of something new, the knowledge gained from doing so, and the challenge of remaining undetected, blended into the background.

That seems to be it exactly. :( They've been pretty firm on stressing that they're against botting, especially gold-farming. So like you said, in the end it boils down to whether or not they can do something about it.

Like many others, I hope that they can figure something out on shutting down these major bots, and preventing them from here on out. Indeed their major updates & nukes will have an effect on SRL, but it seems to me it's at that time it which we're mostly likely to come together as a team, look at the problem at hand and put our heads together on fixing it. We're motivated at a time like that, we've a common goal.

I can understand certain scripts being sold, but none that are directly designed for generating mass profit in the game. Yes you're absolutely right, we aren't involved with things like that, as it's always been an open-source learning community. No doubt the best aspect of SRL, IMO.

They are only wrapping the client in Html. The client will always be Java.
