So Jagex just released BTS for September… And noticed this…

Botany Bay (free and members)

As you have no doubt read, we're almost ready to reveal our latest and greatest blow against the evil botters that pollute the game. While the Engine and System teams have been fixing, testing and improving the system, we thought it would be great if all players were able to get involved in punishing these clockwork menaces…so we’ve created Botany Bay.


After a cheating, rule-breaking, botting account has been caught in the act, they will be teleported to Botany Bay: a new location, hidden on a dark, foreboding island and run by the Botfinder General. Here, real players will be invited to listen to a fully voiced speech from the General, while pelting the offender with rotten tomatoes. You'll then be invited to choose one of three game-ending punishments for the offender, resulting in a brutal set of animations and a permanent ban. You’ll be able to hear about ongoing trials via the announcers that sit near several busy in-game locations. They will also offer a handy teleport to anyone nearby

Interesting concept, but I think it will be dead most of the time. A deserted island.

Sounds nice. I thought they were against naming and shaming.

Just another gimmick to amplify banning of bots and play down the increment of bots should the nuke fail.

Anyways, I wonder how this will affect botting as a whole. If it's just like it is now and instead of Jagex perm banning you, they let the players do it, then I don't think it will change botting much.

Do you guys think they will release better bot-detection methods along with this update? If so, then I might take a break from botting on my main lol. Also, it looks like once your sent to this island, there's no way of getting out and avoiding a perm ban =/

But then again, Jagex will definitely make sure that the account is being botted on before sending them here and embarrassing them in front of the RS community.. so will they actually ban less people than before?

Anyways, I'm going to bot hardcore on my main until this thing comes out lol, then maybe take a break for a bit to see how things turn out. ;)

I'm going to pretend to bot while playing legit, on a char named "I r bot (random number here)" and then when I get ported there start crying

they damn well better add better bot detection

I might make a Botany Bay script that does things with a ridiculous high banrate :P The problem is that your other accounts might get flagged aswell so I'll run it on a VPS :P

Yea that's one thing I've never understood about them, their IP watching seems to be nonexistent yet… networking is my field so it baffles me when I think they don't monitor IP… and I believe it to be unreal. I'm not sure what you have to do to get all of accounts banned on an IP but I've ran hundreds of them on this IP from other people & myself, so.. idk

Sounds similar to the old black hole! Hope they get rid of injection with this update, at least for a few months.

Not quite.

You still get randoms and all that stuff, but now, instead of not being able to log in after being banned, you get sent to botany bay. Once you are there, there's no getting out, like the old black hole.

Is this out yet? I had an account standing on a seeming less deserted island, next to water, and thought it was just a mis-walk into Relleka. So I just tabbed back to the scripts running area and restarted. Hmm.. Think I'll cool off that one account asap. O.O

Edit: Read on the article/homepage that you become perm banned after achieving Botany Bay status? So perhaps I was mistaken.

I hope the offender can still use chat. That would be awesome for some last words. :P

It isn't released yet but it will be within the month if all goes well

The only reason they are releasing this is because legit's like to see bots get banned, whenever there is a jmod they follow them to the wildy ditch or wherever they do their little banning sprees now. xD

I wonder if in time there will be "fake bots" with "fake names" autogenerated by the server to keep a constant supply of trials… ????

And the point of that would be ? If they did that, they might as well create fake players with fake names to attend the trials :rolleyes:

Next to no-one is being banned these days, so Botany bay would always be vacant. I wouldn't be surprised if they did make fake accounts to fill up botany bay.

The only way they would keep the bay occupied is by banning the masses of gold farming bots slowly, instead of a mass ban which is expected from the second bot busting update.

And maybe Botany Bays are only on certain worlds, which would take a lot less banning to fill them. They'll probably have 1 bot at a time, so they really wouldn't be hard to have filled all the time, especially with all the obvious goldfarmers. Who knows how long each trial will take anyways?

Maybe a botany bay world, where if you are banned, thats the only world you can log onto, and non banned people can log into that world, which is only botany bay, seperate from the other servers, and witness the trials. TBH, If I got banned, I wouldnt sit through a trial, I would just log off.

I don't think they would go so far as to make a server specifically for the bay.
You make a good point about the trial though, barely anyone would just stay logged in to watch, especially after people know what goes on. To make people want to stay on for the trial they would have to make each one unique.

Enough goldfarmers are banned that they would be able to show they're banning them. That doesn't change the fact that the vast majority remain unbanned.

This is an utter waist of Gajex bandwidth. Who cares whether I'd be taken to a scenery or be banned permanently? Seriously? Maybe I didn't uderstand it correctly, but is there any difference in permban or BotBay? What a waist.

I see only one advantage: If I destroy my bot, can I revive it with the same name?

I'll be interested in what this actually turns out to be and how the legit's will take it. I haven't heard it mentioned once in-game.

I disagree pretty strongly with your statement that pb is ready and colour will die… I might be a bit biased but I think that if the staff at pb said that they have updated to be ready for the mad chaos or whatever then they're bluffing. Guess we'll have to wait and see who comes out on top
