Speedy DL'ing

I was curious about downloading speeds and what might some of the fastest speeds are? Also, is it possible / are there any projects out there where multiple connections download the same file(s) separately, then combine the final download into one or multiple downloads?

Just curious, and I'll reserve a face palm for myself now when there's already something for this/like this.

bit torrent protocols basically do what you're asking, they grab small files from multiple locations, combine them into the whole file.. etc

As for fastest speeds, it really depends on location, there are some goingup to a few gbps but majority of the world considers 30mbps fast because.. people are at like 1mbps

not to get confused with the shitty program of the same name, bit torrent the protocol will in most cases max out a persons download speed, because the more speed they have.. the more download sources it'll find (unless it's something with just like 1 or 2 sources)

Ohh thank you for the direction; this indeed ignites my curiosity for learning and now I know where to start!

Lol no problem, bit torrent protocol is used for example: blizzard uses them to download/update all your games, if you look at connection you usually have like 20 people connected or so

it's unfortunate most of the protocol is used for illegal activities though.. because its design is really good imo for downloading of all forms
