October 25th, 2011.
The infamous day that will go down in history of Runescape for ever. For months, Jagex said that they were going to release a "nuke" to bots, an update which will cripple, if not completely disable certain bots. Yet us, the botters, laughed at them, scorned them for even trying. But they pulled through. They unleashed a nuke upon us and nearly every botter on the face of the Earth felt it. They broke Injection bots, filed a lawsuit against NeXuS, and even took down our precious RSBuddy.
However, this was the beginning of the end for Jagex.
Following the week of the bot nuke, Jagex offered us countless rewards such as bonus Soul Wars zeal points, bonus Penguin hunts, and bonus Slayer experience. Yet we couldn't take advantage of it to it's full extent. With the bots down, we could do nothing but wait.. wait until our bot coders could fix them.
Before the nuke, Runescape had a steady 200,000 players, right after the nuke, Runescape had very nearly 50,000. Even if 1/4 of that number were members, Jagex lost millions of dollars in revenue. Now that most botters were out of the game, Jagex were losing money left and right, an event which will later lead them to releasing microtransactions into the game.

On this day, Jacmob turned his backs on us, his loyal customers and turned from one of the most loved people on the web, to one of the most detested. It led to players such as me who were not used to playing legit, to find alternate sources of playing the game without playing it.

People like me were forced to use ancient methods of macroing, mouse recorders. It led to many bans. However, out of the darkness, a light shone.

We were overjoyed, to find a working client which was open source, had no chance of hacking us, and simulated real players.
SRL's no leech/learning community was infectious, and encouraged young people to learn programming. One thing led to another and numerous scripting legends were born.
However, it still wasn't enough. Jagex's revenue still hasn't risen back to it's normal standards. This led to the release of the "Squeal of Fortune" and the outrage which was released by it's playerbase was huge.
Dicers, gamblers, phishers, hackers and goldfarmers are sucking this game dry, taking apart what a game which used to be played for enjoyment had to offer.
Now all we can do is sit and watch Runescape slowly die out…
Reason I wrote this: I was uber bored.
Comment if you think it was a good read and/or anything you'd like to add about the state of the game/what the bot nuke caused.
