I've had this idea for awhile, just wasn't sure how the community would react to it. I've finally decided to just go for it and decide whether or not to continue based on the success of this one.

The Idea
Members will be given 2 weeks from a set date to upload a script that meets the specifications outlined later in this post. After the submission date has closed the scripts will all be added to the 1st post in the thread and and voted on for the best script. The minimum requirement is that the scripts follow the standards of an SRL based script(Randoms, No infinite loops, Failsafes, Etc). Scripts with less than the standards will not even be judged. The judging will be based on Efficiency(Both in the code and how it runs in game), and votes received. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided by myself with the longest lasting progress report on 2 seperate computers. The winner will receive the user name and password through PM to a level 3 character with 1 million coins in the bank in Varrock that is brand spankin new and was proxied for its entire use(Tutorial island)+UID deleted.

Predicted Questions
Are you doing this just to get a script that you want?
No, I will also be entering in the competition. My desire is to encourage the brilliant scripters we have to release something beautiful.

Buying and selling is not allowed here.
I'm not buying, these scripts will be open for the entire community to use. The 1 Million Gp is just an added incentive to get lazy/poor(moneywise) scripters to make an attempt in this competition.

Is there an entry fee?
No, depending on the success of this future ones might have a very small entry fee but this first one does not.

I still think your just doing this to get a script that you want…
Yes I do in fact want the first one, but future competitions(hopefully) will be based on member suggestions.

Who's paying for this?
I am, entirely.

What if you win?
God, I hope I don't win, I haven't made anything in months! but if I do then no loss, I just get to keep my money :-)

Can you use your own previously made script?
Yes you can, but remember the best one wins.

Can you work in teams?
As of right now the answer is yes. But the prize is still only 1 Million on 1 Character.

Which scar do we use?
Scar 2.03 or Scar Divi 3.01
ON TO THE COMPETITION ALREADY!
The script will be a Smelter for ALL ores. The Furnace and bank you use is up to you as long as it is FTP. Multiplayer is recommended but optional, however this means multiplayer MUST be optional in your script.

Dates: 2 weeks from tomorrow(May 2nd) is the deadline for Submition.

Preferably a script from scratch would be submitted. If you have enough confidence in your previous script though you may submit it.

edit: Got a flawless furnace opener, much better then the one in SRL, it uses some special techniques to find the furnace, muahahaha! Can't fail!

lol mine is pretty simple… gotta work on it a bit though and make it less detectable

You can submit it I guess, but its overall votes that will decide whether you win or not. Most people are going to need more than Bronze and Iron.

May 2nd submitions close and voting begins. Voting will end on the 9th and the results will be posted. The winner will receive a pm with the name and pass of the character on the 10th And the new competition will be chosen that day or the day after.

I will decide the prize amount for the next competition based on what I judge to be the difficulty of the script. Between 1 and 5 million.

I thought about that but if its something really hard and and a couple people enter this will discourage alot of would be competitors so a larger prize would server a dual purpose of making it more competitive and bringing in those other people who would otherwise say its not worth it.

Most of the time really hard scripts are a nice experience :). It's about the script what you make an about the honor what you get if you win :). And I don't think a lot of SRL members still active play RuneScape.. So maybe first try and stay with the same price? ;)

Well, i think that the bigger the prize, the longer time we have, since the script will be harder :)

i think you started in the wrong bank or somthing…
because it works fine for me, i made another 400 gold bars with it..
and you also have to fill the bank color and the furnace color (minimap)

I'll enter next one because I don't like smelters much.

Yea, the standards aren't great, but it doesn't really matter because it's easy enough to just zap it with the auto-formatter.

We can try the longest progress report idea too. Then it will be the best script (best in the meaning of reliability) that wins.

I think it should be required that Large Teams are used, that way the scripts will be a lot better and we will all actually be working together to make scripts for a change.

I was not mad, if it seemed that way I am sorry. I can tell that all scripters put extensive amounts of time into their works and I do respect that, and Its just that due to an unfortunate series of randoms and other events neither script worked for me as I would have expected.

SKy Scripter & markus now that I look back on my posts in my thread I have realized that in a few instances I was acting like a jerk towards you like this one:

We Devs had our own little competition earlier this year. It was all team based, and I think it worked great. L.A.M.E. was mine and Cheesehunk's entry. :)

Teams are DEFINITELY the way to go on script competitions. You get to test scripts on different computers, and you get to learn from other people, and you may have different strengths and weaknesses that complement each other to make a great script.

Well, no one will vote. And if we go by tie breaker infintry won for me, his did 4 trips… I still think its a good idea, it just needs wider support, maybe we'll include the free peoples in the next one…

Well as far as the next competitions goes…

My guess would be to have like a lot of members enter, give people like 1 month to join and then people would randomly be assigned to groups of like 2-4 people, so there wouldn't be any 1 sided groups. Like Wizzup Fawki and Tarajunky all together, even though that might happen randomly. Then I think that all competition scripts have to be multi scripts. Like a Draynor Fisher and Tree cutter, or an auto fighter cooker, or something. That way we would develop really good scripts and it still would be a fun competition.

And as far as communication goes We could use my ventrilo server *it has chat also* and I could make each team their own private channel or something.

PS: Maybe we should hold off anything big until SRL 4? That way, noone would be getting random error messages and such. Also, Divi 3.10 should be out by then, so most people will have the same SCAR, too.

Ehh I think we already have scripts that are really good at one thing, and who knows maybe a group of us could be better than the Dev's who knows? But I still think we should go with a multi script, because it's new, it's big, and would need multiple people to make it work.

Just make two scripts that are very 1337, then combine them. That we you have a 2674 script :p

Heres how you do multi-scripts:
Have one control script and the scripts that would be run would be include files with one procedure that would act as a main loop.

Yea, but it is pretty hard to perfect even a simple script, let alone a multi-script. But that is how one should approach it.

So your saying just to stick with a single script but a new fresh idea. Give me an example of a "fresh" idea for a script, because that is what I'm mainly stuck on right now.

Well, i have one "fresh" idea, but i want to keep that one to myself :D

Some other new ideas might include:
a decent dwarvern mines banker, maybe a PKer?, a HillGiant fighter (pretty hard…), or a Necklace buyer/enchanter :)

Most of those are pretty hard though…
