Did you download simba from the official site? (http://wizzup.org/) If it is then it's a false positive. AVG is infamous for that.

It's normal. As long as you downloaded from wizzups site you're safe.
Everyone has that file forgot it's purpose I think it's what let's SMART run as it's own process separate from samba.

Okay thanks for clarifying that! Thought it was one of AVG's notorious false positives..

It's the autocorrect! Why won't Windows let us type simba without trying to autocorrect…hasn't everyone on the planet seen The Lion King? :p

And on topic…it's safe. False positive, definitely.

Windows interoperability suite for Linux.

It probably registers it as bad because it uses incommunication between threads/processes which could be considered harmful.

If you are that weary, feel free to compile it yourself: https://github.com/BenLand100/SMART. :)

AVG is probably complaining because it uses shared memory and sockets. That's typical virus/trojan/botnet activity but it happened to be very useful in getting SMART out of the Simba process. *shrugs* maybe AVG will figure out it's not a virus

Silentcore

It's marking it at a virus because not a lot of people who use AVG have used simba as well..When The Simba .991 came out and had to re-download, 'Norton' marked it as a virus and the reason was because not a lot of people from the 'Norton' community used this program..

Benny

yeah it's definitely not a virus

The only thing that looks dodgy is the fact that you're using AVG.. horrid program has more false positives than a teenage girl

stuff that connects to the internet, and isn't manually added to AVG = virus
great logic

Had the same problem with the installer (Symantec Endpoint Protection due to work).
I e-mailed them asking them to white-list it but who knows that will happen in the virus definitions

I have Avg too. It said it was a virus also. So, this is false positive?

Kyle Undefined
