Apple on Tuesday was granted 25 patents that encompass almost all user interface elements used by modern smartphones. Everything from e-mail, telephone, camera, video player, photos, search, and most importantly multi-touch (the system of using multiple finger gestures on a touch screen display) have all been granted to the Cupertino-based company.

This wasn't really all that clear to me so I read the patent and now I'm even more confused:

In a computer-implemented method, a portion of an electronic document is displayed on the touch screen display. The displayed portion of the electronic document has a vertical position in the electronic document. An object is detected on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document. In response to detecting the object on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document, a vertical bar is displayed on top of the displayed portion of the electronic document. The vertical bar has a vertical position on top of the displayed portion of the electronic document that corresponds to the vertical position in the electronic document of the displayed portion of the electronic document. After a predetermined condition is met, display of the vertical bar is ceased. The vertical bar is displayed for a predetermined time period when the portion of the electronic document is initially displayed.

Thoughts? It seems like such a broad idea that it shouldn't have been able to be patented

Then I'd have to pull an Apple and patent every possible design. You are not having a one wheeled car.

What the hell? Patenting multi-touch? Photos? Videos? A scroll-bar disappearing (Canonical and its Unity won't be impressed) when it isn't used?

Apple is slowly dying, Andriod now controls more than 52 percent of the phone market. Apple does not like this one bit so in order to get back to where they were they are trying to stop other companies. Hence why they keep suing Samsung and getting phone sales banned until the lawsuits are resolved.

Doing shit like this will actually get less people coming to them. I've never liked Apple, they are an awful company, I do work fixing laptops and phones and I refuse to service anything that people bring in that is an Apple product.

Also, with this patent:

In order to breach it, EVERYTHING in that patent must be met. I can develop a phone and copy 90 percent of that patent.

I agree with everything here. I'd like to see Apple simply removed from the market.

I wish Linux market would be put in place as Apple, and Apple market would be the new Dell of pre-installed Linux computers

I hate microsoft slightly more than I hate apple.. and I would love to see google take out microsoft. Apple will just fight google so much it'll backfire on them and take themselves out so I have no worry there

They recently submited a patent for auto saving.
AUTO SAVING. It's been out for f**king 20 years, and they are trying to patent it.

They didn't even think about it, someone else did long ago, everyone used it, and now they try to steal that idea and make it theirs.
