Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard proudly accepts the Guinness World Record for the largest userbase for a free-to-play MMORPG.

Earlier today the 200 millionth account was created sending RuneScape into the record books. Thank you 'scapers everywhere for your amazing support! — at Jagex Ltd.

I saw this on my newsfeed on Facebook lol, there is also a picture of him holding the award.

I like how they say 200m players on a free to play game, when the majority have payed to play before.

So.. some other game had 199million? I would think they broke the record at a minimum of 100 million ago, honestly..

yea that type of stuff, including single people with 100+ accounts works greatly in their favor… most other games have no reason to make multiple

It's also the second largest MMORPG in the world, if anyone cares.

Their subscription base reached a million subscription base in 2006, dropped like 3200-500k (tops) atm.
