The "cause" of my absence

Hello guys,
Just thought I'd let you know why my activity has been so low lately, I just got a job working on an oil service rig (after an oil well has been drilled by another crew, we come in and put in more tubing/rodding for various reasons) and my hours are 6 till 9 every day lol, with 12 hours of that being payed (no drive time lol)(but 4 hours at 1.5 is nice :D).

Anyways I'm just doing a big push to save for school so this is it lol (I've never worked so hard in my life). Bought a 6.8kg bag of protein powder, just slugging that back to try and gain some weight haha.

If you're interested, I make 26.50/h with no experience, if you want to apply: www.toughnecks.com

But ya, that's what's new with me, hopefully I'll make it through the summer alive :P!!

Ps if you do apply let me know so I get a referral bonus :spot:

That is awesome man. Really inspiring to see someone take their life into their own hands. Good luck with getting the money for school!

How does it work accommodation wise. Do they sort all that out for you?

21. I rent a room in Grande Prairie and the driller picks me up and drops me off every day. Ya it's really great cash but the work is really intense, Obvs bobo would do fine haha, but I'm smaller (5'6) so I'm trying to bulk up. The other floor hand with me is 6'1 and he does fine.

I am seriously considering doing this, or something very similar. The money is just so good, it would be worth it to relocate.

Holy shit, you are earning more than my dad! I wish I could get a job like that lol, almost $300 a day. That's like 90% of monthly minimum wage in my country.

Just an update on my life:

I successfully worked for a month and a bit on a service rig and got rid of my green hardhat last day :D (not considered a new guy anymore). I made 14k in total. I also met a guy running a crew setting up these giant 3 million litre "frac tanks" for water through my Uncle through his church, so I worked a few days for him before I headed home.

Now I'm at home and packing up for UBC starting tomorrow! Year 2 of my BoSc in Wood Product Processing :).

If you have any questions about working rigs, shoot me a pm.

Awesome, one of the companies I'm with has small rigs for soil sampling & testing for chemical spills etc.. furthest I've gone down was 80ft

do you get to travel around the world or are you mostly set on one rig one location?

We would stay in a certain area with a radius of about 10km. Ya you guys might not be too happy with us lol, the reality of rigs is that we do spill a bit on the ground (minor compared to what we pull out, but still a bit).

Have you seen any weight gains? I remember you saying that was something you were hoping for.

Man I didn't gain a pound lol. I was eating loads of protein but I don't think I was managing to get enough calories in. I did muscle up though.

More than happy :p companies are required to pay for their spills, and we get paid by them to clean up, loooooooots of money, millions in per month to pay for equipment & bacteria used to eat the pollutants in ground etc

pretty cool stuff, I do most of the networking & server stuff for them (also certified for drilling in field) but there are 3 PhD scientist guys there I like to hang out with and watch them do their tests

you gonna do any off shore drilling? I wish we did big stuff like that, though I prefer nerd stuff vs lifting 30pound drill extensions and screwing them on all day

My mate is the same. He started eating 5 times a day and using protein shakes in 1 week he lost 2 pounds lmao.
One of the things that puts weight on tho is carbs. If you have plenty of carbs like potatoes, pasta, rice and bread you should gain weight but make sure you don't go over the top as you will get a podgy belly :p. You will also find that working your legs and getting them bigger will then naturally allow your top half to get bigger, very important ;).

On that note, now that I'm at school, I really have to make sure I eat enough lol, sometimes I'll put off eating and just sorta be semi-hungry all day. Can't be doing that lol. (I don't anorexia or anything, being hungry just doesn't always bother me)

School does this to me too. The best way to remind yourself to eat is to exercise ;)
