Hi,

Does anyone know if simba will work on a ARM CPU? (ARM11)

also how do i go about helping out with development for a debian compatible version?

i am no expert but i am hoping to learn and help out if i can. so any pointer and help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not currently, but can prob be done.

What do you mean "Debian compatable"?, there is already a Linux Simba.

I mean it wont need me to install anything else, or run it in wine

Yes, tho you need libkeybinder for the global key bindings to work.

Ok thanks, i have not be active around here for quite a while so i am outdated with everything.

Does smart work or does that need wine?

Yea smart is good, instead of the .dll it's the .so for linux

benland has had that covered for a loong time :)

ok cool, i have a idea in mind and would love to be able to run simba + smart on a ARM CPU

is there a guide to help me get this all set-up?

i am also new to linux (debian)

I had no idea it ran on linux (which now I have learned from this thread), I believe the next 0.99 version is supposed to help fix some bugs with it on linux.. I just run through wine right now

but my main distro is debian so I'll also be looking into running this (however no ARM sry =[ )

Ok cheers for the info, when/if i can get it running as i hope to i will let you guys into some more info about what i am doing.

Edit: Well it wont load on my system i have, no error message or anything i click simbs.linux and nothing happens so it must not work on a ARM CPU then.

debian and ARM…. Do I smell a Raspberry Pi system?

Wait wait wait, Let's not joke about this. You are one of the chosen ones who actually got an raspberry pi?

i might have one, and i might be trying to make a system that can run simba and smart for me for $25~ and only needing 5v at 1A

Edit: also why this might be in members only section

Those binaries are for i386 and x86_64 processors, not ARM, you need to compile Simba for ARM yourself.
Also, I'm about 1,337% sure PascalScript is not going to compile let alone run, you may need to wait for the rewrite when you can compile Simba without PS.

Ok cheers for the info, i am also thinking that it will be highly unlikely that runescape will actually work but yeh it would be fun to try and see what happens.

i will need to read up on how to compile simba for ARM

It wont work at all unless you can somehow completely seperate PS, which will be hard, as it is pretty intertwined in there.

I've alreay wrote the replacement classes (that fix this), all I need to do is implement.

Ok sounds interesting.

I am willing to test stuff for you guys, but i am by far no expert at this, i havent done programming since uni so dont know how useful i can be, but would be interesting is we could get simba working on it.

I need to start work on it =/ Quizzup did the branch changes already

Tehe I have one :)

Wizzup?

I missed this thread; it's probably not too hard, but you probably want to strip out Pascalscript completely. I could probably set up an autobuild to create ARM versions of Simba. I might test it a bit on my cubox when I have time.

You have to ask yourself if the Raspberry Pi can run Runescape though.

Hi,

Yes i dont think it can atm, mainly due to java not running on a ARM system, but i have read development for it so you never know.

I wouldn't say that's the "main" reason haha. Raspberry Pi's have 256 MB of RAM. Runescape idles at around that much RAM. But you also have to squeeze your operating system into that memory.

shhhh you i am trying to be optimistic, even thought i know it wont work, lol.

but you never know there might be some other ARM devices we can get with more RAM

I think that there is huge development going on with ARM Java.

Some what Offtopic been thinking of ordering one of these:

That one definately looks sweet. I recently read through some ARM-based development when I was in the plane to Egypt. It's amazing to see that each new generation of ARM-based processors is atleast two times as good as the previous one :P

Looks very good indeed. Too bad they charge $40 for package handling and shipment.

Thought i would bump this to see if there is still interest in it, also with the new 512mb RAM version maybe runescape can run on it eventually.

Perhaps possible by using openjdk like what Jagex uses in their official runescape client.

Creating some sort of java hack

PascalScript now has some ARM compatibility, maybe we should try compiling Simba on ARM?
