Thoughts on 06Scape (A Rant).

Everyone is under the impression that 2006Scape will be the exact same as it was back in 2006. In many aspects yes; In regards to graphics and the skills, etc it is completely identical. However the thing that will not be even close to the same is the players attitudes. In real Runescape around 2006 people didn't necessarily know the most effective method but they trained in a way that was fun to them. I think it's safe to say that the majority of Runescapers now a days have a completely opposite view point. I find the majority of my skills grinded into the wee' hours of the morning just to get the requirements for a quest (or botted ofc <3). Back in my early RS days I would train skills as I went along. I remembered always to bring my hatchet, pic axe, and fishing net wherever I went. If I found a collection of ore to mine I would stay there until I had a full inventory before I ventured to al kharid to smelt my new found ores. Pretty much I just lived in the moment, not knowing what the next time I logged on would bring. Back then things like quests were fun, the puzzles were challenging yet entertaining, and the sense of accomplishment was exponentially larger. Now you can find a dandy quest guide on the RS Wiki or other similar fansites. A quest that would be an adventure in 2006 is now a boring task to be completed. The sense of achievement you would have gotten in 2006 is now replaced with 2 squeal of fortune spins :duh: That's all I've got guys, sorry for the wall of text but I just wanted to ruin peoples hopes :/ Well anyways, Peace

I agree with a lot of what you said. However, I don't think that grinding was nonexistent in 2006. In fact, I probably ground more in 2006 than I ever have since. I got bored though and just checked out all the new updates that jagex made after that. I'll play 06scape simply for the nostalgia, and probably will leave promptly. I've never felt inclined to stay on a private server very long.

It was fun back then because everyone was the same, NEW… The problem with a private server is, these people are not new but rather well experienced.

I couldn't agree more. I remember the best part of RS was NOT knowing everything. Being able to tell your friends "dude, I found a new town". Wondering WTF the skull over peoples heads were for. Actually saving money to buy weapons from SHOPS (I can't tell you the last time I went to the sword store in varrok, but yet I used to check it frequently to save up for the badass longswords they had… mith lol).

I don't think the experience will ever be the same until I start a new game, and I'm the noob again =). Although I am kinda hoping that this new combat beta will bring back some of those "not know what the hell I'm doing" feelings :).

I agree with what Luke L said, the problem is: almost everything about most games is found on the internet and I'm not the 9-year old who doesnt "google it, noob!" anymore. Also, my friends nowadays wont be like: "Look at this town I found yesterday! Its awesomeee!" but they are like: "Watch this proggy of the bot I ran yesterday! Awesome shit eh?", and they also know Google..
